00:46
You would think I was a professional by now.
00:59
I mean, I don't really consider myself a professional, but I like to pretend that I'm a professional.
01:06
I'm not a professional, I just play one on TV.
01:09
Don't drive in around talking as if I'm recording the new Subi Scoop for today, and I realize
01:18
that my mic was on, but I had not hit record.
01:25
And thankfully I wasn't recording for too long, it was probably like close to 10 minutes.
01:32
But hey, welcome to this edition of the Subi Scoop.
01:38
It's actually feeling more like winter here.
01:43
It's 46 degrees outside, it says that it feels like 41.
01:48
So that's a nice change because the past several days it's been like in the low 80s, high 70s.
01:55
And here in the Houston area, when it's winter months, we don't like when it gets warm
02:03
because we want it to feel like winter.
02:08
Many times it doesn't.
02:09
And so when it's, if it starts to drop below like, you know, 55, 50 degrees, it starts getting
02:17
into the low 50s, high 50s, and let me say that again, if it starts dropping into the
02:23
low 50s, high 40s, we love it.
02:26
And then if it gets down into the 30s, that's even better.
02:30
Okay, a lot of us love it.
02:31
I can't say that for everybody.
02:34
It's just, there are a lot of people that want it to feel like winter.
02:40
It's December and it was, you know, high 70s, low 80s just recently.
02:51
And it doesn't feel like winter, but we want it to feel like winter.
02:55
Anyway, so for this edition of the Subi Scoop, I'm recording in my car because I was out
03:00
recording some content.
03:02
And since I had my mic with me, I decided I might as well just record in the car because
03:08
I still want to keep driving around because I love driving my car.
03:12
And now I can after it was gone for three weeks being repaired.
03:17
So as I'm sure you saw maybe, if you saw on Instagram, I posted a reel saying that
03:26
getting my car back now, it feels different.
03:30
I feel like something is missing because it was repaired.
03:35
The pieces and the components were replaced.
03:37
But, you know, with an accident, things are bent and knocked out of place or whatever.
03:44
Nothing's going to be exactly the same as when you bought it.
03:47
You know, it's no matter how good of a job you do, no matter what shop you take it
03:53
to, unless you're going to take a lot of time to really dig in and make sure
03:59
things are just perfect, I feel like it's not going to be exactly perfect.
04:06
But it looks really good.
04:08
I'm very thankful for having it worked on.
04:11
I'm thankful that I have my car back.
04:14
I'm thankful that all the pieces were replaced.
04:17
But at first, when I first started driving it around, it just didn't.
04:23
I still felt like something was missing because it doesn't have the original
04:28
pieces that came with the car.
04:32
However, I do still have the damaged hatch.
04:36
So you may have seen that in my stories and I decide, I asked the shop if I
04:42
could keep the hatch and the guy was like, why can I ask why you want to
04:48
And I said, I told him about Subifest, Texas.
04:51
So, well, there's this Subaru enthusiast event and there's a lot of
04:55
professional drivers and athletes there.
04:57
And I think it would be really cool to have them sign it.
05:01
However, for anybody listening to this, that's in, you know, the Houston,
05:08
Dallas, San Antonio, Austin area.
05:12
When I have it at Subifest, Texas next year, anybody that would like to
05:17
sign it is welcome to sign it.
05:18
I think it would be cool to get signatures from other people on there,
05:22
you know, people out in the community.
05:24
I think that would be kind of fun to do that.
05:27
So, yeah, I have my original patch that is of course damaged, but I
05:34
think it would be cool to have that and have people sign it.
05:39
But yeah, so with my car going to the shop, you may have seen
05:46
two in my stories that when I got it back on last Wednesday, that there was
05:53
a gap at the bottom of the hatch.
05:55
And it's because the latch on the hatch where it clasps onto, I don't
06:05
even know what to describe it, what it's called, but it's basically
06:08
like the piece at the bottom of the opening of the hatch that the
06:12
latch grabs onto to close, to close it.
06:17
And so that little piece down at the bottom wasn't adjusted properly.
06:22
So the hatch was not like sitting down onto the opening properly.
06:29
So I was really pissed off whenever I got my car back after three weeks.
06:35
And I saw that there was a gap at the bottom of the hatch because
06:38
when you're driving around and you roll like one window down in your
06:42
car and you can feel like the air pressure changes like pushing on your ears,
06:47
which is really annoying.
06:49
I hate that feeling.
06:50
I hate it when you're driving in somebody's car and one person rolls
06:53
like the window down because they think it's a good idea or something.
06:57
And you feel that pressure on your ear just like pressing in and out in and out.
07:01
And anyway, so that's what was happening.
07:05
And I noticed like I knew something was off.
07:08
I'm like, something's not right with the hatch or with something.
07:11
And so sure enough, when we got back from going downtown on Wednesday,
07:18
I found a parking lot that had because it was it was late at night,
07:22
but I found a parking lot that had really bright lights.
07:24
And I pulled down my back seats.
07:27
I looked into the hatch and sure enough, there was light coming through.
07:32
And I'm just like, I was just like so pissed because I've been
07:37
waiting three weeks to get my car.
07:40
I get it back and it's not it's not even right.
07:43
So the insurance company that was handling the claim is progressive.
07:49
Whenever I got into the accident, the insurance information
07:54
that the officer gave me from the other driver was from Geico.
07:59
And so I believe it was Geico.
08:03
I can't remember exactly.
08:04
But anyway, so I called his insurance company
08:06
Monday after the accident and then I got a call and gave them the accounts,
08:11
you know, my account of the accident and what happened.
08:14
And then that afternoon, I got a call from this woman from Progressive
08:17
saying that they were going to be handling the claim for Uber
08:20
because the guy was driving for Uber at the time.
08:24
So so they they did a great job.
08:27
Progressive did a great job of getting things handled quickly
08:32
because I got a call from them Monday afternoon
08:35
and then Tuesday I was taking my car to the shop.
08:39
So I was very pleased with the response
08:42
and the way that progressive handled things.
08:45
So when I got my car back on Wednesday
08:49
and then Wednesday night, I saw that the hatch was not sitting right.
08:53
I was thinking like maybe they ended up using an aftermarket hatch or something.
08:59
But I've been told that there aren't any aftermarket hatches.
09:02
But, you know, I just I was told to watch out for shops using aftermarket pieces,
09:08
even though they may state OEM on the like the parts list.
09:14
But, you know, from what I've heard, the hatch is
09:17
there's not really any aftermarket hatches.
09:19
But I just thought something like somehow how is it?
09:22
How is there a gap?
09:23
And how did they not notice that?
09:25
And so because I remember when I picked it up on Wednesday,
09:29
when it seemed to close too easily,
09:34
like you don't have to slam the hatch,
09:37
but it seemed to close like way too easily.
09:41
So and then whenever I would push on the hatch
09:45
when it was in the closed position, it would actually move a little bit.
09:49
And it's not supposed to move.
09:52
So on so I picked it up Wednesday, saw that there was a gap,
09:56
felt the air pressure, you know,
09:58
I knew something was going on with it.
10:01
And then, of course, seeing the gap explained why my ears were doing that
10:05
or why I could feel like the air pressure changes coming in into the car.
10:10
But so on Thursday morning, I called Progressive.
10:15
I didn't call the shop because I wanted Progressive to know,
10:18
hey, you are paying for these repairs,
10:22
but the shop didn't do a proper job.
10:26
So I had to leave a message for the agent.
10:28
She called me back and she said she was like,
10:32
this is not OK. This is unacceptable.
10:35
So she called, she said she was going to call the shop,
10:38
have them call me back immediately.
10:41
But it was like maybe two and a half hours.
10:46
And I finally, well, after I got off the call with the agent,
10:50
I said, hey, I'm going to send you a photo of the gap in the hatch
10:54
just so that you can have so you can have like record of it.
10:58
So didn't hear from the shop.
11:00
So I emailed her back around two thirty
11:04
and then maybe around two forty five.
11:06
I got a call from the shop and said, oh, yeah, we were told that
11:10
you need to something's going on with the hatch.
11:12
I told the guy, I was like, yeah, there's a gap at the bottom of the hatch
11:16
and there's not supposed to be a gap there.
11:18
So by this time, I wasn't as mad
11:21
because I was opening the hatch, looking at it,
11:25
trying to figure out why it wasn't closing properly.
11:31
And I thought either something's going on with the latch
11:34
that it's not closing as tightly as it should
11:37
or on the sides of the opening of the hatch.
11:41
There's these little rubber pieces and then on the hatch itself,
11:45
there's these angled rubber pieces that meet up with the piece
11:49
that's on the hatch or on the opening.
11:53
So I thought one of two things, either something's going on with the latch
11:56
or something's going on with those little rubber feet
11:58
where they meet up with the other rubber piece on the opening
12:03
because they were both at an angle
12:04
so that they would kind of meet up together.
12:07
And I thought, well, maybe those rubber pieces are hitting
12:10
and they're not allowing it to close as tightly as it should.
12:15
So took my car to the shop.
12:17
I told and the funny thing was
12:20
it was about three thirty when I took my car to the shop
12:24
and because it's getting dark earlier here,
12:29
the sun was like already behind the building kind of.
12:33
And because the building's tall
12:35
and it was casting a shadow at the front of the building.
12:37
But like several spaces over
12:41
the sun was like still shining on these spaces.
12:46
So I parked in one of those spaces with my hatch facing the sun.
12:50
And when the guy came out, he was like,
12:53
why'd you park way over there?
12:55
I said, because I want my hatch to be in the sun
12:59
because I want you to see that the light is coming through.
13:01
I wanted to make sure there's plenty of light hitting my hatch
13:04
and make sure the sunlight was hitting it.
13:06
So I opened up my back door, already had the seats down.
13:09
And I said, because he was getting ready to go open the hatch.
13:12
And I said, no, come look through here.
13:14
You can you know, open the hatch, come look through here.
13:16
You can see that there is a gap.
13:19
And so he saw the gap and then he asked for the keys.
13:22
He said, all right, I'm going to take it back to the shop.
13:24
See if I can, you know, get them to take a look at it and figure it out.
13:28
And I had told him my two theories that either the latch was messed up.
13:33
Some was going on with the latch or something
13:34
was going on with those little rubber feet on the sides.
13:38
So he came back in like five minutes
13:40
and he was like, yeah, you were right.
13:43
And I said about what he said about the latch.
13:45
It wasn't it wasn't closing properly.
13:48
So they moved the little piece that the latch grabs onto.
13:52
It's like little bar.
13:53
They moved it a little bit further in and tightened it down.
13:57
And sure enough, that's what did it.
13:58
So now the latch closes all the way.
14:02
There's no gap. There's it feels very, very snug.
14:08
And I have to close it with the proper amount of force.
14:13
You know, it's you have to put some force behind it to get it to close,
14:17
but not close as easily as it was prior to that.
14:21
So everything's all good now.
14:28
They did do an amazing job with the paint
14:32
because I've I've heard from people that the crystal white pearl
14:37
when you go get repairs and you try to match that paint,
14:41
that it's not an easy job to do, but they did a really good job with the paint.
14:46
And I let them know that I was like, hey, y'all did a really great job with paint.
14:49
I'm really impressed with it.
14:51
So I'm happy that pearls all back together
14:55
and my feeling of something missing is starting to dwindle
15:02
because I realized like my car is whole now.
15:05
And I think I think having my original hatch helps too
15:10
because I feel like I still have a part of my car that was there when I bought it.
15:18
And so and it's all I clean up the hatch.
15:20
I wiped it all down and got all the dirt off of it.
15:23
So it looks nice and clean.
15:25
There are spots where it's like bent up and paint is flaking off
15:29
and it's rusted a little bit.
15:30
But other than that, it's it's my hatch.
15:35
It's the original one.
15:36
But that's but that's what's been going on lately with me.
15:40
Is getting my car back and enjoying driving it.
15:45
So I'm recording this in my car because I was recording some content.
15:48
I don't know if I said that earlier in this second segment of me trying to record.
15:55
So now I said it the first time when I thought I was recording,
15:58
but I was out recording some content.
16:00
So I figured I might as well just keep driving around and record in my car
16:03
because I like driving my car and because I can now.
16:07
So other than that, just trying to still looking for a job,
16:15
trying to find something that will work.
16:20
And I I'm struggling with not wanting to go back
16:25
into the same industry that I was in for the past.
16:30
Almost well over 25 years doing like working in the architectural
16:37
and engineering field doing drafting and then more than just drafting.
16:42
Like the last several years, I wasn't doing a whole lot of drafting,
16:46
although that's what I like.
16:48
But I really want to just get out of that industry altogether
16:53
and kind of carve my own path.
16:56
So that's what I'm trying to do.
16:57
That's what I'm working on.
16:59
But it's not an easy thing.
17:02
It's not the easiest pursuit.
17:05
But I just I really don't want to be in that industry anymore.
17:10
And I'm really trying to not go back into that industry.
17:16
And, you know, but it's it's hard to figure out what else I would do.
17:22
Like I I've only done one type of thing.
17:26
My and been in one industry my entire career.
17:30
And so not knowing what else I would do or could do.
17:35
That's tough because I'm also I have also been
17:40
blessed with being able to work from home.
17:43
So my two jobs ago when COVID hit, we started working from home
17:51
and over a two and a half year period, I went into the office,
17:56
I think eight times and then I traveled a few times in that in there.
18:02
But when I was home, I very rarely went into the office.
18:07
And then my previous job, we only had to go into the office one day a week
18:12
when I first started.
18:14
And then they kind of screwed us and made us come in two days a week
18:17
because nobody there knows how to work remotely together.
18:21
And so then I was having to go in two days a week,
18:24
but still being able to work three days from home was great.
18:28
And so I want to be able to continue to work from home
18:33
or work a hybrid job because there's other things I want to do with my life.
18:39
And I don't want to be like feel like I'm tied to Houston
18:43
for the rest of my career because I don't want that.
18:47
So that's the other tough part is trying to find something that I can do remotely
18:53
and not have to go into.
18:57
And I know a lot of people have to go into an office five days a week.
19:01
But there's different things that I want to do in my life.
19:03
And I feel like getting laid off was a blessing in a lot of ways
19:07
because it's it's kind of forcing me to figure something else out.
19:12
It's forcing me to do something new, to think about things differently,
19:17
to try to find a new path.
19:20
And, you know, I I'm also like really, really happy.
19:27
Like without all the daily work, stress and anxiety,
19:32
I've been really, really happy lately.
19:35
And I don't want to go back to being anxious and stressed every day.
19:42
I was horrible and nobody should have to deal with that.
19:45
I know a lot of people that deal with that.
19:47
I know a lot of people don't want to go to work every day,
19:51
whether you have to go somewhere or even if you're working from home.
19:55
Nobody nobody should have to deal with that.
19:57
Nobody should have to wake up and be anxious and stressed
20:01
every single day that they have to work.
20:03
That's not that's not what we were meant to do.
20:07
And so that's what I'm trying to figure out for myself
20:10
is a way to not wake up anxious and stressed every day
20:16
for the rest of my career, the rest of my life.
20:20
And I know nobody else wants that and we don't deserve that.
20:24
So anyway, that's that's really all that's going on with me.
20:30
And then, of course, my daughter, Catherine,
20:32
is moving on through her pregnancy.
20:35
She's in her third trimester and Belly's getting bigger and cuter.
20:42
And she's she's like, oh, no, now it's like there's no turn.
20:47
You know, it's getting closer and closer.
20:49
And I'm going to have to do it at some point.
20:53
You know, she's going to have to give birth.
20:54
And but I know everything will be OK.
20:58
And I know we're all excited to see my granddaughter.
21:03
And that'll be a lot of fun.
21:06
So looking forward to that.
21:08
And it's been it's been fun just kind of seeing her
21:12
go through all the different phases and, you know,
21:16
what she's been talking about as far as how she's feeling, what she's doing.
21:19
Thankfully, she is never thrown up during her pregnancy.
21:25
So that's been that's been a blessing.
21:27
That's been a good thing that she's never thrown up.
21:29
But and then Luke Luke is working on some ceramic stuff.
21:37
I think he's looking at maybe
21:41
doing some stuff with his wheel, because he's got a really nice wheel.
21:46
And hopefully he can crank out some stuff
21:50
and kind of create his own path with that as well.
21:54
That would be really cool.
21:56
So but, yeah, other than that, I mean, we've got Christmas coming up.
22:01
So I'm looking forward to that.
22:03
It'd be nice just to know this cooler weather is nice.
22:07
Hopefully it'll stay cool through the Christmas days
22:12
because there's been times it's been.
22:15
We've been able to wear shorts and a T-shirt on Christmas day.
22:19
And that's not right either.
22:21
So hopefully we'll have some cool cooler or even cold weather on Christmas day.
22:26
Most likely we'll not have a white Christmas.
22:30
Hasn't happened in a really long time, but
22:35
it should be hopefully it'll at least be colder.
22:38
So I hope everybody else is doing OK.
22:40
I hope you are all out getting in some adventures with your Subaru's
22:46
and enjoying hopefully, you know, getting out with other people
22:51
and going on some trails and maybe making plans
22:56
for next year and there won't be another
23:01
sube scoop before Christmas.
23:04
It'll be after Christmas because I'll be releasing
23:08
Episode two, 18 on Monday next Monday, the 22nd.
23:15
So that will be the last guest episode of 2025.
23:22
The last guest episode of this year.
23:24
And then we'll be closing out five years of the podcast,
23:28
which again is kind of crazy.
23:31
But thank you all so much for continuing to listen to the podcast
23:36
and continuing to share and like and subscribe.
23:40
So and if you're new, if you're this your first time listening,
23:44
I hope that you go and listen to a bunch of the other episodes
23:48
because there are plenty of other episodes out there to listen to.
23:53
I am still driving around, but I'm going to head home
23:57
and I am going to sign off.
24:00
So I hope you all have a wonderful week
24:02
and take care, much to be love, Raph.
