00:00
Hello, hello, everybody.
00:11
Welcome back to another Subi Scoop.
00:14
I haven't done one of these in four weeks because I ended up doing a bonus episode for Overland
00:21
Expo with Joe from Subaru, where a Subi Scoop normally would have been.
00:27
So welcome back to the Subi Scoop.
00:29
On this edition of the Subi Scoop, I'm going to talk about the accident that occurred on
00:34
Saturday, November 15th.
00:36
So I'll try to sum this up so I don't go too long with it, but basically what happened
00:40
is I was driving down the road, a dog goes walking out in front of my car and pretty
00:46
slowly and it was a really small dog.
00:50
So of course, I slammed all my brakes because I'm trying not to hit the dog.
00:56
And I was really close to where the dog started to go out into the road because it was off
01:02
on the median and I didn't see it at first because I'm watching the road and then all
01:06
of a sudden I see it pop out onto the road so I slam on my brakes and I was really hoping
01:11
that the middle of my car would just drive over the top of the dog because it was a
01:19
But anyway, so I come to a stop, look up at my rear view mirror and then I see the Jeep
01:26
coming and it just hits me.
01:29
And it hit me pretty decently hard and so I get out and I'm trying to talk to the driver
01:37
but unfortunately he didn't really speak English.
01:40
But I think he was an Uber driver because his passenger got out and I was chatting
01:44
with him but I don't know exactly if the guy was like looking at his AC to make adjustments
01:52
or maybe he was talking to his passenger or what but when I stopped, I was stopped for
01:58
about a second or two before he actually hit me.
02:02
So I know he was far enough behind me that he could have stopped and he didn't because
02:07
there were no tire screeches behind me so I know the guy wasn't paying attention
02:14
I didn't see that I had stopped and like there's how do you not see that somebody stopped in
02:19
So whatever speed he was going, that's the speed that he hit me.
02:24
So you know but thankfully I was okay, everything was good with that.
02:28
And of course I was upset but you know I was thankful that it wasn't worse.
02:33
So you know Pearl didn't fare so well though, I mean thankfully she was still
02:38
drivable so I was able to drive her home and despite getting hit like that, still sounds
02:45
and drives so smooth.
02:47
But as far as Pearl is concerned, it dented in the hatch in the middle so the hatch
02:53
is pushed in like it's concave now and like my license plate is bent.
03:03
So there are like tail lights and I think it's where yeah so there's tail lights on
03:10
the hatch and they were untouched.
03:13
Like the tail lights are totally fine, they just got pushed out of their housing because
03:18
of how the hatch bent in, it pushed them out of the housing a little bit but they're
03:24
stuck like in place because of the way everything is bent up.
03:30
And then the bumper got pretty jacked up and of course you know there's like the little side
03:36
panels of the bumper that snap in or clip into place to the body of the car like over the
03:44
Well those had popped out because the bumper flexed and those popped out so I just popped
03:50
But it split my easy flares because I had easy flares in the wheel well and it just
03:55
split that in half and or split it right where the the seam is from the bumper to the car.
04:03
And then somehow I guess the guys because it was a I think it was a Jeep Cherokee I guess
04:09
the bumper is low-ish or something because it pushed my bumper underneath but since it's
04:18
fiberglass it just flexed back.
04:21
But it hit the muffler under my car and it pushed the muffler forward and it popped it out of
04:29
all of the hangers so the mufflers dented and then you have the muffler and then you have
04:35
the the exhaust pipe that goes from the muffler to I guess the next connect you know
04:42
the first connection.
04:43
I don't know what it's called because I don't know a lot about exhaust but there's
04:46
like two flanges that come together where they have the connect the muffler connected to the
04:51
rest of the exhaust system and that got bent just a little bit so there's like a gap between
04:58
So now my muffler sounds like a mild nameless performance muffler.
05:04
So it actually sounds a little cool.
05:06
Of course it's not cool that Pearl got hit but that's not how I wanted to do a muffler
05:10
upgrade or a muffler delete but yeah so so that happened and then again the hatch I'm
05:17
just I'm really surprised that it did not bust out the back glass Subaru however you built
05:25
these cross treks I mean you did a great job because it took the impact really really
05:31
well and most of the impact was on the hatch and under the bumper because the crash bar
05:40
that's behind the bumper is perfectly fine it's not bent at all it's perfectly intact
05:47
from what I can tell to the frame rails underneath are perfectly fine the body of the car where
05:54
the hatch closes and meets the body the body is fine it's like the hatch and the underneath
06:03
the bumper and and the muffler like took all of the hit and so you know so I'm thankful
06:10
that it happened that way and it wasn't worse and my hatch of course is closed and I am not
06:19
going to attempt to try to open it because I know that if I open it I probably won't
06:24
be able to get it shut and I don't want that to happen if you look at the inside
06:29
of the hatch the inside of the hatch like that plastic panel that goes across the back it
06:35
doesn't even look like it was damaged at all so it was like I don't know it's it's kind
06:40
of weird but thankful for that everything inside the hatch was fine so gonna call the
06:46
insurance company find out what to do hopefully be able to get pearl fixed and get a repaired
06:54
I really really hope that they don't try to total my car because that would be very very
07:01
very disappointing and and I would not be happy about that at all so much of my reasoning
07:09
for wanting to hang on to pearl for as long as I can is one because it's my first Subaru
07:15
to because I just love my car that's why it has 138,000 miles on it and three one
07:22
of the biggest reasons is because it's a manual I can't just like go get another manual so
07:29
I really really hope that they don't try to total it because to me it seems like it should
07:34
all be able to be repaired and I don't think out I seriously doubt the repairs are gonna
07:41
be more than what my car is worth so we'll we'll see what happens but I'll keep everybody
07:48
informed but yeah so that's what happened it was a fun day let me tell you but then on
07:54
Sunday the day got even better or the weekend got even better so we went over to Jonathan's
08:00
house he goes by Subaru and we changed out the front axle on the passenger side of my
08:09
son Luke's outback his 3.6R so we changed out the axle because the boot was damaged
08:17
and it started leaking out like you know as it's spinning it was just flinging out the
08:23
grease so we got a new axle got it replaced and that was great but then we start driving
08:29
back to my apartment and I think he had stopped to get gas so I was at my apartment already
08:35
and he calls me and said hey my car is like dying like it's dying while it's driving
08:40
and all my lights are coming on and other lights that have never come on before coming
08:44
on so he parked in a grocery store parking lot I went over there to meet him and his battery
08:50
was dying because at that point like it wasn't even starting and the battery said January
08:56
of 2022 so yeah it seems about right that it's probably time to change it out but and it
09:04
was it came with a car when we bought it so we were able to use some jumper cables
09:09
and get his car started and then we went to an advanced auto parts store and got them to
09:16
test the battery and sure enough the battery was was no good so we got another battery
09:21
and then they were like let's test out the alternator and see if it's you know what caused
09:27
the battery to be drained and it ended up being apparently the starter because it said
09:33
that the starter was at like 8 volts and it's supposed to be at 12 volts so I guess
09:38
we're going to have to look into potentially getting another starter but I also want him
09:43
to take it to another place because they were having issues with their little reader and or with
09:49
the the meter that they put on the battery to test the the charge they couldn't like get
09:55
it to work right so I want him to go to another place and get somebody else to look at it just
09:59
in case yeah so then we had that happen on Sunday and but thankfully we got him another
10:05
battery he ended up driving home and it was totally fine so but now we'll have to I want to get it
10:11
tested again to make sure that you know if they if another place says yeah it looks like the starter
10:16
is going bad then now we got to look at getting a starter too so that's going to be fun you
10:23
know all this happening after I still don't have a job but you know I still I still feel
10:30
very blessed right now so I'm not like super worried about things but you know in a little bit
10:37
it's gonna it's gonna get a little scary maybe but hopefully I've got some prospects out there
10:44
of potential jobs some resumes out there so we'll see what happens but that was my weekend
10:51
and I really really hope that everybody stays careful out there just especially when your
10:57
intersections watch out for these idiots running red lights don't just start going right away because
11:02
the light turns green so everybody please please be careful and stay safe and I hope y'all have
11:09
a wonderful week and I'll talk to you later much to be loved graph
