Car updates with me.

Oh, not much has been going on this week.

It's entirely true.

Actually, I picked up my caddy this morning.

It had a little holiday at the dealership while I was in Adelaide.

Is it fixed?

No, there's no problem with it, evidently.

It's completely as it was designed to be.

What is it?

So that's all right.

It runs better.

I wouldn't surprise me had that.

I don't know what they've done, but it's still making some noises,

different noises.

But, you know, it runs fine.

They obviously do a fairly good job of servicing because it always does feel better

when I pick it up and try the dealership.

And they actually really looked after me this time.

It was only paid for a Volkswagen service.

It was pretty good.

600 bucks, I think.

Your warranty runs out in December, and what do you do about this?

Yeah, so that's important.

I went through the history of my vehicle with the service advisor,

and he said, oh, you reported the problems with the gearbox previously, too.

I said, yes, I did.

I'm glad they're on record, you know?

So he said, look, you have a service history with the dealership.

You bought the car from this dealership.

He said, you needn't worry.

He said, if there's anything after December, we would still look after you.

I wouldn't take that with a complete grand assault, David Prince.

Not even VW in the after-grand bill?

Well, you know, I've got a little bit of pull there because, you know,

they're actually a customer of mine.

Well, I thought I did.

Anyway, we'll see.

But no, look, that's running OK for the time being.

I've come home to a driveway full of cars.

I've got the Magna in the driveway.

I've got the Accord in the driveway.

That has to go and have the cooling system checked.

I couldn't get onto that in the last couple of weeks.

I've been busy with other things.

And what else?

I think that's about it, I think, rather than what we'll talk about later in the evening.

Yeah, it was a bit of a frenzy sort of to get, you know, ready for Magna 40.

So I was, yeah, the wasp got quite a bit of attention, you know, leading up to, you know,

it was always, um, it was serviced and pretty well sorted like a week or two ago,

but it got polished and what was I doing?

Final bits and bobs of detailing.

Our very good friend Nick came around and detailed the interior for me while I was working one day.

That was nice.

I went downstairs and I was like, oh, that's much better.

Thanks, Nick.

So that's, you know, do him a favor.

He did me favor.

Other than that, the cars were sort of all a bit static.

Pajero's still in the wings.

Jazz still in the wings.

Oh, there's something else I'm forgetting.

See, I've still in the wings.

Driving back from Magna 40, I did get an email that I'd an offer I put in on a met Ben C class that I forgot about was accepted.

So now I've got to go and pick that up probably.

So that's a little C 180 W202.

Um, so that the last of the nice little C classes before the blob by one that we don't like.

Um, so yeah, Navy blue with cream, 129 Ks, one owner seemingly.

So all that tomorrow night in theory, it's a nice car, but I ain't seen it yet.

So I've seen some grainy photos of it.

They even said to me today, does that car have a sunroof head?

And I said, I don't actually know because the photos were so grainy.

You couldn't even tell to low resolution.

Yeah, exactly.

Pick up a roof.

Anyway, I don't quite know what I'll find.

It'll either be beautiful or a bit of a bucket.

So yeah, that's that.

What's the ballpark on that ad?

Unless you don't really selling price.

Sure, let's go with that.

Very different from the buy price.

Of course.

The bar.

Um, the selling price on a good low mileage 202 seemingly, it doesn't really matter what engine,

unless it's a C 43, that's a different story.

But seemingly they are anywhere from sort of five, six, seven, you know, for a really neat low mileage little car.

Look, you see them cheaper, but they're faded and they need work and they've done 300,000 Ks.

So at 129 K, if it really is a clean blue with cream, whatever, I think that's a six and a half, seven grander.

Hmm.

Pretty cool.

They're more well liked than the model that came after them.

Hmm.

Well, they're a better code.

Yeah, they're a real Mercedes.

That's what they are.

That's right.

You're a real Mercedes for the proper Mercedes.

I've heard that for the last 40 years about it.

Okay.

The 1920s guys.

Real Mercedes and then 1970 last of the chrome bumper real Mercedes.

You know, you sort of hear it.

You read it all the time.

Yeah, that's a little C class.

The wasp ran beautifully to make the 40 and back again.

Of course, the little traction light likes to come on and off, but I've got a solenoid on order for that.

That's a simple fix.

Other than that, it was fine.

I got a flat tire.

So luckily I had a good spare and that that's.

Oh, did you?

Flat tire at the front of my house and.

Well, it was at the front of the, the, the, the magna frat house as we called it.

But that was the morning of and I thought, oh, it's Saturday and then we're leaving on Monday and Sunday.

Everything's shut in Adelaide.

So I actually dumped it at a tire joint before mag before arriving.

It was down the road and then I got an Uber sort of towards the end of, you know, halfway through lunchtime mission went down and got it back.

So I walked in past the Ambo guys just rolling my spare wheel along and and he goes, what happened to the rest of the magna?

I said, it rusted away.

He had a nice laugh about that.

Can I just say, Edward proceeded to blame me for, for, you know, it was an accusation.

Why did I blame you for what?

For putting a putting a nail in your tire.

Well, there were two people who are unaccounted for Matthew got home very late, not with everyone else.

So it could have perhaps, you know, put a bolt through my wheel and Jim Barlow left very early and was another sort of his alibi was unknown.

Is that an accusation?

Common San Diego.

It was just noted. It was noted that the two people, you know, one early one late could have caused to have been out in the yard puncturing my wheel.

I have absolutely no time to make it.

Yeah, there you go.

That is a very serious accusation right now.

So it was noted everyone else was accounted for snoring in their bunks.

Well, while I was doing, you know, God's work and delivering a variety to to a good friend, Andrew Woolworth and getting a lift back with Chad.

I had an alibi in Chad who, who dropped me home.

And well, that leaves Jim.

And I also waited for Matty to go inside.

He did.

Before I drove away like a gentleman.

It's good to know.

And then I heard the, the rattle of the chains drive off.

So I know he was going.

Yes.

No more car updates from me.

I think I think actually just on your on the CRV.

I should have mentioned that I took that CRV last Tuesday morning before Magna 40 to our park and met with the guys from chasing cars and Honda Australia.

So they did a reel on that comparing the 30th anniversary of the international launch of the CRV.

And on, if you look at chasing cars on Instagram, there's a great little reel of him driving that car around.

And that is my actual car.

That's your actual car.

And he was very impressed with it.

And offscreen, of course, he had to portray a certain corporate image to the, to the, to the reel.

But off, off camera, he was, he was smitten, not smitten enough to make an offer.

But there is that.

But he, yeah, a lot.

And, you know, the, the seat, the magic trick of that car is the picnic table, which was in place and came out and snacks were served.

I did see a photo of the snacks.

That was a fun little thing to do just before.

Very good.

I was doing a lot of listening to hear about how it was.

What's, um, what's really funny is since Magna 40,

I always liked to go through like Facebook marketplace is kind

of my favorite spot to flick through.

And the amount of Magnus I keep seeing pop up now is insane.

The algorithm is algorithm is algorithmic.

Yeah.

And not just like standard, you know, bog stock ones,

ones that have, you know, had a bit of work.

There was one I just, I just saw now that popped up.

It's got like EVO 8 brakes on it.

Yeah.

And, um, 3.8 liter v6 in it and few other little bits and pieces.

Was that the silver one that was on there?

Yeah.

I just saw it before.

I had a look at that one earlier.

You know, just these little nice ones popping up here and there now.

It was a good price too, actually.

It wasn't badly priced.

Yeah.

It was pretty good.

You know, they say never late in the 3.8.

That's, that's a, that's how it works.

Yeah.

Whether it's GM or Metsubishi.

It's the same thing at this point.

Well, um, I don't have an alibi for it.

Unfortunately, I was trying to think of one,

but nothing was really coming to mind.

That screw in my time, Jim was right, right in the middle of it.

It wasn't sort of on an edge.

It was just bang.

It was very sort of almost immaculately placed in the middle.

Well, you see, I removed the tire, inserted that,

and then put the wheel and tire back on your car.

So you'd be numb.

Why is that?

It's impressive, Jim.

Not sure what time I did that.

You know, I only had about a five hour window, but anyway.

I think some reason why you didn't want me to proceed to

Magna 40, some, some sort of underlying desire to stop the

wasp attending.

I think I'll just remain commentless on this particular topic.

Um, in terms of my car updates, not particularly exciting.

I have had the intake manifold and the Civic Clean,

so it's more responsive now and the accelerator is no longer sticky.

Good.

Um, which is good.

Um, it is going in on Friday.

It's going in to have the fuel injectors clean while I'm at work.

See if that makes a difference with the fuel consumption.

And I think next week I'll book in to have new drive shafts.

Um, and coming back from Magna 40 today,

I just gave it a bit of a wash.

Um, what was rather funny was when I got into it,

um, to drop David off at, um, the dealership this morning,

um, was first I thought, oh, the steering is very heavy.

And I realized, no, if you've spent a weekend driving Magnus and

Varado, your steering is fine.

So what?

Don't you bow a steer?

But they all just got thrown in the bin because of transmissions.

They went great.

They needed rear spoiler.

The Maxima M was the base.

And then the Ti was the top, obviously.

But the Ti got the rear spoiler.

The M, it wasn't standard.

I think it was an accessory.

And they look a bit flat and plain as an M.

When you have that sleek body with the little deck spoiler,

it's really nice.

It's a bit tasty.

It is a bit tasty.

It's a good looking car.

The first gen.

Even like the first gen for us, like there was earlier Maximus overseas.

But the...

I don't mind that early 90s one.

Even the one after that wasn't too bad looking.

But then they went all frumpy in the early 2000s.

They had a three litre.

I think I've only done much.

I was kind of prepping myself to go to Magna 40.

I want to do something done.

I haven't really done much.

I want to take the MR2 for a drive this week.

I haven't driven that in a while.

But I went and picked up the Vorada, the Plades V-Rata from David Prince, who had it from

Andrew Riegelworth.

And I drove that across in relatively nice comfort.

It was quite a nice car to drive.

But I'll tell you a little bit more about that further down when we're discussing the event.

Yeah.

Great car.

I got really comfortable with it.

It's a very easy car to drive.

Very easy to get comfortable with.

You can just hop in and just go.

So yeah, it impressed me.

It impressed me that car.

Yeah, I would have preferred...

That car in a manual would have just been perfect.

I think the auto does let it down a little bit.

It's a bit sluggish with the auto.

But the rest of the car is brilliant.

It's a wagon.

How good is a wagon, Chad?

So handy.

So that was that.

I drove my Camry for a fair bit last week.

And that was great.

I didn't have an issue.

So really giving that a good shake down before Camry Fest.

But no, that was pretty good.

Yeah.

But Chad, updates with you now.

Just for some context, ladies and gentlemen, listening at home and to the wider podverse.

We all thought the week before on the Sunday night when we left,

I think you and I thought this the same, Ed.

We were like, whoa, we don't know if you were going to make it.

Like, what was your opinion, Ed?

We were a bit...

Volkswagen, Nick and I left Chad's house after seven of us had been toiling with the transmission

and various other bits and bobs for a few hours.

We left at eight o'clock on the Sunday night, last Sunday night.

And as Volkswagen, Nick and I drove down the street,

I said, I'm not hopeful that that car will make it.

And you were the driver of the No Magna left behind campaign.

I'm the driver of it.

And I always remain positive.

But I said, I did express my concern about the car.

Fairly.

That lead's me to jump in to a question for

And they had a lot to offer and you know connections, etc in the Magnus base in the Magnus base

and

You know with their help, you know, we eventually got that transmission

It was here. I'll manage to bring it overnight from Adelaide, which is an incredible pull-off

So it wasn't from Japan as I'm out of late. So no, it's from Japan. No, it's from South, Australia

And yeah, it's so

That weekend so I think the transmission arrived on a Thursday that weekend a bunch of

gentlemen on this podcast and

A few your friends are friends type things, you know, everyone sort of came around

I had a friend of mine from high school also join us and my friend Kieran also came over and

Yeah, we had drop-ins of like Thomas and and I don't afraid of yours later in the night

Also, I'm sure to uh, you know, lend a hand. So, you know, we strung them out for quite a while

And then the Sunday, we're gonna let them know like a little bit done

You know valve cover gasket you did the belts. Yeah, and yeah, I honestly

I'm never gonna pull any of that off on that on that weekend without any of your help. So

massive shout out to everyone here. Thank you so much

It's just been the the loveliest most wholesome car experience. I've really had with any car

So

Yeah, so we you know, we did the front tracks. We we assembled those struts and you know, put all the new bits in

Done the brakes on the day before on the Saturday, so they were already so ready to go just another thing to tick off

What else do we struggle with the pressure switch was a bit of an annoying one

So you're a couple by accident one

Widen accident one, you know, obviously was the one you thought it was and

We didn't have the tool to get it off. So it was just a weird size. It was like one inch and

916s or something like some random ass

Size and you know, we eventually gave up on that after you went I think a couple of times

Many times to go the different tool like the socket for it and we just said bugger it, you know

We must have figured out that your cars a bit of a bitter

Yeah, yeah, we see that out because it's a TS, but it had a lot of TR bits

Yeah, so we think it had the TR radiator and then put potentially a TR on the pressure switch in

Yeah, just a really mixed bag of stuff and you know, we're making jokes of the engineers

they just said, yeah, we'll just throw what we had for this year and this this, you know build and

You know, who cares if someone's trying to fix it

Yeah, so we eventually got pretty much all the parts we needed bar

The trans well, I mean, yeah, so yeah, we had the trans obviously and

We just um, just couldn't get it in just really cool that even the trans was different like yeah

Yeah, that's the old one next to the new one and so oh that plugs different or that little bits different

You know, and you just think

I was really worried then because I was just like oh, no

Because it's the wrong trans

auto trans

temp sensor

so we

pulling off the sump of the trans and

Tommy re routed sort of the temp sensor from the old one into the new one which thankfully wasn't that horrible

And then but then the gasket busts when you rip off the sump

So we were really careful on the other one to try and prize the gasket off. We were able to reuse that luckily

Yeah, and he went and got new gasket and stuff. Yeah, just in case, you know, like the old gasket. Yeah

So that that sort of solved that problem. Yeah, so there's always something even though you think something's the same

You know as complex as a trans you've really got a eyeball it

But you like the casing and everything was identical like you had the same part numbers

Yeah, it was the same partner. It was the exact same. Yeah, cuz those transmissions I've never my research

Have a few different iterations, but there was two main ones for using the TS

So I think the early TS has had the older version, which is probably what the one which is probably the one we had

but again, I

Checked with Mitty bits. I'd also check with Paul Gutt and Andrew Briegel's worth and they said if it has this particular

Wiring room on the transmission. It's the one

That's the one you need. There's one without a loom and there's one with a loom

It's like it's like a packaging thing

I think for the transmission and then the plugs that go with it too and

You know for

For most of it it was the same, but yeah, there was like two plugs

One was a temperature sensor and the other one we I have no idea what it was to be honest might have just been like

Some sort of switch like a reverse

Doesn't matter so

I swear as an engineer it might be in a previous life, but it's just incredible at being able to just like

Put a standing out or nothing

He managed to like pretty much marry that transmission at least

Sensor-wise and a little wise to the engine made it all work made it all work

And then you know that was the and then the big part of it was so the next big task was trying to actually get the end

gearbox underneath and

Up and you know sit on the engine and that's why we just struggled so much that God was heavy and

Yes, it's like a giant lump of metal. It's just like 90 kilos of disappointment. It was

so, you know like

It was just yeah, it took us all out basically

I think we struggled on it for two or three or maybe three or four hours

I think and you know people had to leave obviously because getting it late into the night and

Yeah, eventually

We gave up and then

Matthews friend came around Josh big shout out big shout out to Josh

and

You know, he's I think he's a he's a mechanic by trade so he really sort of like knew his thing

Yeah, I think all about combined experience

probably, you know, I don't know so Josh's single person experience and

Yeah, so it was just like yeah, I think the transmission is like sitting a bit crooked

Maybe it's fouling on the

Flex plate on the engine and it's just sort of not sitting right so we ended up, you know, basically packing

everything up

Bolting everything up enough so that the car can be rolled and our friend of his actually

You know agreed to pick the car up on a tow truck the next morning

Yeah, and you know obviously because of that it was able to go off to a mechanic to get looked at

so

It went unbeknownst to me apparently you were not supposed to tow these cars without the drive shafts in them

this is according to the mechanic and

Obviously, I don't know how true or not true and it could just be the age of the car. Yeah

But both of the front

Wheel bearings collapsed and they would not it was I mean they work still but they were like he's the mechanics

I got took a protest drive and it was

You know sound like a helicopter was going down the street. That's how loud the wall bearings were and

Obviously this sort of spoils the story because he he was able to bolt everything up, you know, having it on a hoist

And yeah, he was able to marry everything up essentially, you know, slap a little bits on it

I pretty much gave him every bolts and every thing that he needed and

And

Yeah, so he was able to do that, but then he said look it's it's not gonna

I'm not gonna present it for a ride worthy without these wheel bearings being good. I'm

Good condition. So he ordered some but set came they're wrong and then he was like

So he said there was like three or four part numbers for this car. So he goes I'll order some more

They also came though so wrong. So and then at this point, I think

Is the last set was on Thursday arriving at 2 30, I think you told me

Yeah, so this is this is about Wednesday that I'm talking about where he was not able to

Order the he was not able to order the

So I find the right part. Anyway, so I ended up

Calling Maddie and Maddie

suggested to contact this place in

Thomastown, well, I think they've got a few different locations. They're called bearings wholesalers and

They really knew their stuff. So they were said, yeah, we have a kit that is recommended for the four cylinder magners

For that year, you know that that build sort of like models the TRTS and

they said, you know and

Sorry, I correlated a part number that I got from the mechanic to the to the part number

sorry the the part that they had on hand this bearings place and the

Dimensions of the bearing all matched and you know, I think

Took a bit of a gamble because we weren't sure that it was gonna work. Anyway

But I ended up ordering them that day and it was lucky that I called in the morning because they were able to order them in by

230 to their store and then I was unfortunately stuck away. I couldn't get away

So I ended up ordering an Uber to the to the bearings place and

Thomastown picking them up and I'd use that like send a package or whatever

I think they have an over. So I yeah, they picked them up and I was gonna drop them off to this place and I

Made sure to call the driver and say, hey, I really need the stung

I'm happy to tip you and all that stuff, but I really like, you know, if there's any issues, please ring me

So what's this Wednesday or is this Thursday?

Yeah, sorry on Wednesday. We were like, yeah, it's it's you know, not happening

They they were not able to find the right part. So they asked me to you know, look into it

And I did by calling money and looking around and yeah

So got the parts picked up got got them dropped off to the mechanic and that was around three o'clock on Thursday and

You know, I think the mechanic

At a point was like it is just annoyed about it. I'm just not leaving you enough time

Obviously at this point and and fair enough like I daughter longness a little bit myself and then you know

Things didn't go to plan on the weekends and it was a legend. It was really good about it

He you know, he you know had a little wine, but fair enough

It was a it was a car that just really gave him a lot of issues. So anyway, he vented

What's that?

Yeah, it was like, you know, what is Maddie doing? You know, why is he pushing you to get this done and all this?

I was like, you know, it's you know, I'll just make a face. This is magnificent. You know, this is what happens

so, um, I left it in his capable hands on Thursday evening and

And they said no, I was we'll leave it with us. We'll see what we can do and

I've got a call. I think I don't know 430 or five o'clock saying bearings are in you just need to

Sorry, the rings are in it just needs a little alignment. So they said we'll do that first thing in the morning

So said sweet, you know, it's looking good now

so I

Headed down to the mechanic on Friday. My friend came and picked me up and took me down to the mechanic and

We waited, I don't know about an hour and a half or so. We just got a coffee and we're just sort of, you know shooting the

Stuff with with the mechanic, you know talking about their Magnus and crappy cars and

Maddie's obsession with crappy cars especially

Um

Yeah, so and then yeah, he said cars all done stuff was like, all right

Well, you know amazing. This is like I can't believe it's actually been pulled off at this at this right and yeah

So took the keys. It's roughly on Friday. This is

Around nine thirty. So I got there at eight

you know, just waited till the where alarm was done and

Took the keys and drove the car straight home

I had to load the car up with tools and my stuff for the weekend and

And also my friend stuff as well

So and then we just set off from there to Vic roads got to Vic roads and a bit of a line

Just a little bit of a line just a little bit. So I took my ticket sat down

You know just waiting for the numbers to get called and

Anyway, eventually it gets called and go up and I had really lovely lady. She was like, you know sweet and

Didn't cause any issues. I had all my paperwork sorted out prior to this

So, you know, it was kind of like I was just waiting for the car to be finished at this, right?

so I had all the paperwork ready to go and

Yeah, they just handed the plates to me. I was like, well amazing. It's this is I can't believe it's actually been, you know, it's happened and

Yeah, so good plates too. Oh good place and she was like, you know, oh you can probably try and pick something that

Might suit your car or whatever and she just held out. She just held out a random

Selection of like barcodes, which is like what the plates, you know

It has like the combination on the little barcode that goes with the plate. Yeah, and she's like, oh, this one's gonna nine six in it and

She's like, what about this one? And I look at it and it's like zero nine one H nine six, which is what like

TSTR was made from not anyone's 96. So I

Mean, that's you know, it's gonna be that's gonna be that one, right?

And yeah, so took the plates went out that went outside and screwed them on and

Boogie and then pretty much from there. Yeah, I got straight on the phone and what's that?

Of course filled in my book as you do and from there. Yeah, I'd called shouting straight away and got insurance on the phone and

You know roadside and all that stuff just in case and

Yeah, from there. We're just basically just went on the road

This car had never had a shakedown

It came straight from the mechanics and he said look, I haven't checked anything else

You know, so just make sure you check your flaws. You check your your brakes are you know working properly and all that stuff and

Obviously, you know, I won't did that idea. I legitimately did I went and checked all the floors just in case

and you know, I took some extras with me and we ended up buying some oil on the road just in case as well

I was just out of driving and

Maddie was taking in with me, you know, every other hour

It'd be like, how are you doing? You know, like what's going on? How's the trip?

And I was just like, it's fine

There's no issues at all. Like this car is just driving. It's driving like I would drive any other car and

And the whole way there zero issues like not even the only little issue I had was

Too little issues

You know, not serious ones at least the idle was sitting a bit low and it just wasn't stupid happy

Sitting at like the lights and like trying to take off like it was fine

It was just vibrating a lot because the idle was so low

And I think it was the engine was trying to spin the talking better enough, you know

Sort of to get going but as soon as you got moving it was fine

There was no issue and then the other thing was I think the thermostat

But I mean just stuck open and just it was

Constantly reading low on the temperature towards the end of the trip. No, no, it's still doing it. Okay. Yeah

So I think it's a thermostat out job. Yeah, it's right on top and you know, it's a cheap part

so but yeah apart from that if I had zero issues I drove it all the way to

Magnifest and drive it around Adelaide like I think I ended up driving doing like a hundred and fifty K's just in Adelaide

She's driving around

around to commit his crime

Cutting. Yeah, exactly. No. Yeah, there you go. I'm squeezing. Yeah, finding screws to screw into the wasps was hot

And yeah, I was just

I was just blown away out of how like

Reliable the car was the whole time I drove from Melbourne to Adelaide

I was just nervous. I was nervous that it was gonna break down and I had to try and find a way to get the car home or go

You know get my stuff and you know find a way to get to Adelaide or go home

You know, whatever the case might have been but it just it did did nothing

Did you really start to kind of ease up say actually this is going okay? It wasn't until we hit we passed the bend

Yeah, just outside of battle. Okay. It's gonna. Oh my god. We made it to Adelaide like

It like didn't hit me until we started going downhill, you know, like downhill section into Adelaide

Yeah, and I was like, oh my god, we made it to Adelaide like and this guy didn't even break down one

We probably still could have coasted into Adelaide. Yeah, I mean, yeah, absolutely

Except I did once do it or going downhill. I put the car into neutral

You just let it go and I let it go and then I went back into drive

Like, you know a little while later and it like kicked back into like second gear. Okay. I was like, well, I'm not doing that again

Obviously doesn't like what the hell's going on. So I was like, yeah, it's fine, you know

I could just you just drive it like a normal person isn't like, you know, not not beat on it and

Yeah, sure enough, it was

Incredibly, I'd 1500 kilometers there and back and but zero issue. So and I know cars should be able to do that

Yeah, with without any shoes really like I'm you know a maintained car. I'm not even a really well-maintained one

But I had zero had zero hoping this car to be honest like out where we were on Sunday

I was like, there's no way this is gonna happen and

Give up and go credit to you, Maddie

You like so it was me to knock you up and you know, I followed through with it

And I did which had we didn't come this far to get this fire

I feel like this is it's you know, it's you're you're so close for so long

Oh, so then you put your mags on there. I think I'm a suit the car

Of the period 80 dollars with center caps the other wheels like there's a

80 bucks the wheels and then I buckled the drive straight the car drives so straight

I'm amazed at how straight it drives and

Just everything about the car just surprised me like how well it was able to just take that trip and

It's built for it. Yeah, apparently because that's you know, that's what Magnus were built to do and that it was able to do it

So, you know hands-down

maybe the most fun experience I've had in a car so far and

Also, one of the most I think like memorable and also like, you know

Reliable experiences. I've had from a car as well. Like it's no cars ever really done me this

You know, wow the fact that it was just untested and you just said screw it

So that could happen, right? Yeah, I mean, it'll leave you stranded. How can it be? Yes, you

Famous words like I remember when we saw you that night like the first night in Adelaide

And like I walked in and I think was UW said chuds over there and I turn it and turn around

I just see you sitting down and I was like, what that I gave you I gave you the biggest hug

I cannot believe you made it this this far. It was yeah

It was very surreal seeing everyone in that pub in Adelaide and me happen

You know me be able to be there as well. Yeah after that road trip. Yeah, it was very surreal experience

I had to like pinch myself to realize that I was actually in Adelaide for a while

I

Had arrived at the at the pub, you know, it was because you arrived later than everyone else. Yeah

Turned around you're like in I'm like

Like I don't believe you're here

I saw that car. Oh

Yeah, and it was very endearing having that sort of reaction from people and also

Just being able to do that drive and with no issue

I was actually like when I saw you I just started to tear up like I couldn't believe you was

I couldn't believe you made it like I was just like, you know, I had I had

You know, I smelt more glimmer of hope Sunday. I was like, oh nice. He's pretty he's pretty mounted

I don't think yeah, I think he's done and

That was the first time you teed the last time you teed up on the weekend

No, I wasn't but we'll talk about that in a little bit

But then but then to see you there

I was just like I couldn't like it was one of the most wholesome moments I've ever seen

Yeah, and it involved the freaking Mitsubishi Magnum

It couldn't have been another car, you know

It couldn't have done any other car could have done and then when it when when you got home like at the end of the trip

I messaged you and I said out of all the cars that you own

It's by far the one that's worth nothing. Yeah, but for me, that's my favorite car that you won

Yeah, it's earned its place. Yeah, it's cemented its place in stable. I think maybe it's gonna find a place for it

But at least now it's registered and it can live on the street, which is not an issue

Yeah, it's maybe not right, you know, the best thing to do to a car

But you know unless you can find another spot for it. That's yeah, but I think it will stay

Because I'd also like to get my money's worth. Absolutely. It has cost me a little bit of money this house

So I would like to at least drive it for and get the money's worth out of it, too

Absolutely, but enjoy it dude. Like it's I mean, I have to work today. Yeah

You know, I was like, why not? It's sitting in the driveway. I might as well

So yeah, and then I drive it to the podcast and he was like, you're still driving the mags

Congratulations, you did it. Like it's you know, incredible floors guys like that was just unbelievable. That's that's a it's an incredible effort and

So that took us to Friday night. So we see David Prince your you left on the convoy that left on Thursday

Yeah, yeah, Edward Bunting. I we you and I left on the Friday and we we can we convoyed across

To Rada laid and then we met up

Well, we went to the make like the first but we all met up at Tonsley Park for the for the help is you know

Briefing earlier that that that evening

Which was good because we got to get to see all you know, I got to see you David got to see you Jim

You know, it was it was really it was really nice to see the whole team kind of working together and then planning it

You know, everything was like well, this is happening. It's it's it's less than 24 hours away

And I walk through I've got to say that was a very big moment for Andrew and Andrew and I you know like

seeing you all arrive and

in that space, you know that we you know, Andrew and I had seen it, but none of you had seen it and

Yeah, and then the the not the doubts but the oh we can if you do all the cars in the year

And how's it actually going to work and Andrew and I had spent so many hours, you know measuring and working

You know tried it, but we were we were still questioning it ourselves

I mean it was very hard to imagine the cars in there and the width of the cars with the doors open and how far about

space and all that but

Yeah, it was it was great to see you on Friday night and really gave us a sense, right? Okay, we can do this

We can do this so magna 40 gentlemen

So so that was that was getting that was getting to make the 40 obviously Chad had the wildest experience getting there

But we but we all we all got there

It was bunting as he says no Magna left behind and no Magna was left behind as far as far as we know

So we so we all got we all managed to get there and then

Basically, it was the day of the event the big day the big dance, you know 18 months of planning

David Prince's coffee with Andrew was worth, you know

You're small ideas big things happen. It was the day of the event

Can I just say but like as a precursor this it was probably one of the best events?

I've ever been a part of and and seen yeah, it went super smooth

It felt like the day was just it felt like felt like butter just just just just smooth

Absolutely smooth, you know people there was people loved it. There was you know, it was really it seemed like you know everything

It was it was a well-oiled machine and you know

Full credit to all the team involved and especially you at you David and Andrew like it was just it was a phenomenal event

It you know, I think it's what it'd been one of the premier events I've ever been to like genuinely it was that good

All hats off to you guys. Honestly. It was it's just really well organized. I mean, it's Andrew Andrew is a machine

like the the emails he sent and the

follow-ups he sent and the updating of the social media for

The all the different groups. I've lost count of how many groups he's put together on messenger for different for the long

The Victorian people for the for the rest of the you know rest of the country

Paul Gatton and he and I have had one going, you know between the three of us around there all the AV stuff and

Sort of thing, but it's he's an incredible person and someone said to me why Magnus?

Why and I said it's it's Andrew Ruehlesworth. I mean

He's such a charismatic guy. Yes, and the

The enthusiasm he has for these cars is just infectious. I mean certainly helped that I bought one new to in 1993

I had some very fond memories of

Vows as well, but no it was Andrew Andrew did the bulk of it and he and

Lory's lovely wife Laura who's was so supporting through the whole thing

It was it was just fabulous to see fabulous to be a part of what we weren't the thing that really struck us it

And what neither of us were really expecting was the emotion around the event a lot of that when that plant closed

There was a lot of a lot of anger and a lot of a lot of sadness and a lot of

Disappointment around that that's the South Australia, you know, it was such a huge employer of people and closed in

2008 I'm pretty sure it was and enough time it appears has passed that

This was just this incredible surge of nostalgia and sentimentality about it. I had this amazing

This lovely lady come up to me and asked if I was one of the organizers

She was I'd say probably you know late 60s maybe okay, and

She said to me are you one of the organizers? I said yes. Yes. I am

You know can I help you and she said I just wanted to say she said this is the first time

I've been back to this factory since since since a close she said I worked for Chrysler and then I worked for Mr

Bishy on well fine, and she said it's it's the most wonderful feeling to come back and then she burst into tears

Then I then I burst into tears

And gave her a hug, you know, and and I said so, you know, did you do all the upholstery like oh, yes

Yeah, so I took her over to my car. Oh, she said that interior because the the V6 has got the elite interior

the elite fabric called Brentwood I found out and

She said oh that was such a bother to do that one because she said that we had to always get the line straight

She said it's got too many lines

But Andrews at the same thing he had people bringing photo albums of their dad who'd passed away

But you know like work there for 30 years, you know and they were in tears and

But it was such a wholesome as he said before and positive sort of thing

We had a member of South Australian Parliament there saying if you were to who was really good

Talked about the space and I think the location was absolutely spot-on

I mean that event in that space with the cars arranged like they would have been on on the final part of the production line

It it was yeah, it was so many elements came together just on the day that made it perfect

The weather was fantastic space is is amazing. It's it's still obviously an industrial factory

But let's a lot but fully covered, but let's a lot of lighting. It's it's got a forest area. It's got

What they call an urban forest? I think we had cars arranged around that and

Yeah, I was absolutely hands down the perfect place to do it

So we were very lucky that historic Trust South Australia helped with that

They they looked after the higher of it. They looked after the higher of the pod for us

they helped with public liability insurance and

All those sort all the paperwork that Andrew and I would have just had no idea about how to do the Dane Wilden who who was the

One of the head people at historic Trust South Australia said no, just leave that to us leave that to us

You know, don't worry about that. We'll sort that, you know

And just one thing after another was sorted Mitsubishi motors, of course sponsors for some of the things

We have a fantastic media wall. There are some amazing photos of the cars next to me all as everybody drove in they got a showbag

They got photos in front of the media wall and Mitsubishi gave us some prizes

They also helped with the onsite catering. There's a cafe that doesn't normally open on on the weekend

Three little pots great cafe and that saved us having to worry about food trucks and coffee trucks and all that sort of thing

So they they were prepared to open

But yeah, we were

Saturday night we sat down and had a cheeky G&T and just thought my goodness. What have we just done?

There've been so many comments. Oh, well, we had channel 9 and channel 7 news there

Thoughts from those we had it or dinsky the internationally known champion rally driver was actually there

That was an amazing story. Did we did Andrew talk about? I think he did talk about that when he came on the show

The real actually I've got a little bit queued up at the end of his interview speech. He spoke for about 20 minutes

The thing that struck me about the speech is Andrew

I was standing with Andrew and Laura behind him while he was giving the speech and

Everybody there was listening to him like it weren't wandering around kicking tires and looking at ours

It was it was crazy. He had the whole space and some people someone said they thought it was about 500 people

Just listening

And that was the same for every speaker and I've never been to a car event

I said that to Andrew that night

I've never been to a car event where you know, there's often a prize or a trophy or this or that

You know or someone saying a few words, but in the background of that you've got 200 people milling around. I need to listen to that

You know, they they're doing their own thing, but everyone shut up and was

Intently listening and watching whether it was Andrew whether it was it or dinsky whether it was that, you know

Member of Parliament guy

whose name I can't remember but

Yeah, they go everyone was really gathered around and filming and listening and really intent about it

So that was unusual

I and and this is you know, like where people have dragged their families along and they'd be there'd be people there

Who didn't really want to be there, you know, like

Oh, right. I'll go, you know like

And and they were all being if not listening very respectful, so that was good. Yeah, it was it blew me away because you know

You could have heard a pin drop when I thought this kid was talking though

It was just it was just like he was he had the whole crowd in the palm of his hand now

They were eating out of his hand. He was just telling stories and and and telling um

You know how he got involved with Mitsubishi Motors Australia and and it was telling everybody how to drift a front-wheel drive car

You know, I like that. I like that. I like to just claim it. Please don't try this at home. Yeah

It was it was brilliant and Andrew spoke so beautifully and and you know, he he really had the crowd because you know

I think the crowd really respected him for what he for what he has done. I think this is

That was quite

I was reading a lot of the comments on on the news page and stuff after they posted it and oh

What, you know, they were buckets of rubbish for this down the other but like but for the people that that love these cars, you know, you know, everybody

You know

Everybody that loved those cars. We're just this is this is this was their time to shine

You know, this was someone else's time to shine. Let me just see if this works. I did send this to Scotty

That would be the case and

You know, it's not just um, it's growing up to you Andrew and to everyone who's helped you David there and the whole team

It really comes back to all of you, you know, obviously it's

Um, everyone I've spoken to is astonished not that so many just so many of you are here

But the quality of the cars is extraordinary and I can't say to you

Look for me. It's an honor that you remember these cars

Someone who's spent so much time in their lives in them and have a whole career based around magna

It's very privilege and thanks for having me along. Wow. That was that was a picture self moment that I was like

I remember when he said when he said listen to his podcast and and I was like surely not and then he said car talk

and and then David just turns around and Chad just like punched me he's like what I was just like

I couldn't believe what I was hearing you right now

Oh, that was the second time you cried that week. That was the second time. I did tell him a little I was like this is um

That's a very good plug and maybe some of these um other magna people who were there will listen to car talk now

Hopefully hopefully we've got because it was it was quite well listened to episode that one when I did when I

I mean, it can't all be about magna's every week, you know, we've we've given a very good run

They've had their

That there are other cars we may have to occasionally talk about

but like

Yeah, that is true Edward. It's been it's been magna centric for the last one. Yeah, uh, but

Uh, it was yeah, that was what the ultimate pinch pinch myself moment. I was like my god

Like, you know, it shows you who can listen and and you know, yeah, it was it was it was pretty well

Chad just was like in disbelief that his name was mentioned

His magna there against all odds, you know, now he's being mentioned by edward dinsky random

One of my highlights of the whole day was was saying to ed when he finished. I said, oh ed

You know, I've got someone I'd like you to meet if you got a sec just come over here and ed. This is matty j

Yeah, that was that was incredible. It was wild

That was the pity that there weren't

You know, there were so many interesting people there and you just if you had a week

You probably wouldn't still get through them in their story. That's right. That's right tip of the iceberg. So well the other gentleman that was there

When when we sat down for that coffee 18 months ago, andrew said I'd love to get denis nicole nicole there nicole

nicole and what was his role?

Dennis worked at chrysler and designed the charger

So pretty significant car in in in australian automotive history. Hey charger. Hey charger

Actually, one went past us on the beta bird. What a pink one. I saw that pink one. Oh, that was in front of you

It's in front of me when I was driving out. Yeah, Saturday night

Magnus and I thought woohoo, you know, like ed

Dennis designed that car and he also designed all the magna wagon. So he was heavily involved

In the in the development of widening the tier the the gland to become the tm

But he actually designed all the wagons which went on to be sold around the world

He was fascinating to talk to and I've got I've got 10 minutes

Of him talking in the in the pod there as part of that that area where we were there's like almost like an old portable classroom

That's been re re repurposed to and they call it the tonsley pod and it's got a v thing

But from 12 o'clock we had a q&a with some ex-employees

Amazing had tried and tried and tried to get him to look like getting contact with him

But he's not on social media. He's quite elderly now. I think he's nearly 80 if he's an already 80 and

Andrew found out that morning adam from mr. Bishop came he said oh by the way, I've got a surprise for you

Oh, wow, that's incredible today and we'll be part of the q&a. Wow. That's incredible

Yeah, yeah, so Andrew was beside himself. I've got a fabulous shot of the two of them together. Oh, well

But yeah, it was it was a lot of things ticked that day a lot of things ticked

It couldn't have come together any better. Well, even even when I had my flat tire issue as affol mentioned

in the waiting

I'm sitting in the waiting area of the tire thing

and

There's it got just one other guy in the waiting area and there was some news about I don't know Prince Andrew's

Relinquished his royal title or something and I made a comment to the other guy. We're just chatting about that

and

I had the magnet 40 t-shirt on of course in yellow to match the car and he said, oh you uh, you know

He going to the magnet 40 thing, you know, I said, oh, I've just been there. I'm literally just coming to get this tire

sort of whatever

He said, oh, I was the the quality control manager for paint for 20 years

Oh my god

So we I said, well, I've got a car you might remember and he said, yeah, I saw the wasp yellow outside, you know

He said, yeah, that was a rare color and it was so we talked a bit about that

I just thought you can't sort of go 10 meters in Adelaide without

Literally no one being connected to that

Plant in those cars. Did you also ask him why all the paint was just they're just

I didn't go that down that road

He had a bit what's with the paint

What's with the clear cope you he had a birthday or his birthday celebration to sort of go to I think and so he couldn't

He couldn't go to it. He said I saw it on the news on wednesday. Yeah, I'd love to come down, but I just can't make it today. So

There you go

That's that's that's that's crazy

It was yeah, I don't know. It's just it was an amazing day

Jim you were obviously a big part of it

You know, you got there earlier helping out and and and the likes your what was your take from the event?

I think as has already been alluded to it was incredible to see

the

outpouring of emotion and sentimentality and that

for a car that often has

polarizing

Responses from pinion from people. Yes

That there was a lot of

love and

A lot of

It brought a lot of what are otherwise very different people together and then to great deal to a lot of different people

I thought that when we had the walkthrough of the facility and

We were about all about to start and then I saw

Veronica and many jay arrived and I was like, oh the timing was just

Impressive

Like couldn't have asked for better timing, but just you know becoming familiar with the space that way and

understanding how the cars are going to line up and trying to conceptualize that and then

being with david

Greeting the entrance in the morning and watching them line up and sort of and then being able to walk through all the vehicles assembled and sort of

It worked very well because it gave the impression of how they would have been like on an assembly line and going from one department to another

Was really quite wonderful. And of course you had the cars that were completely pristine where they were original

where they'd been restored or ones that were driven daily or ones that were completely modified and everything in between

and

it you know it just

As we've already touched on it was completely different to other car shows again. I think because of that emotional

attachment to

The vehicles and obviously the space as well because it was the birthplace of all of those cars

Absolutely. I think that's us. I sped sped so this to you jim and chad

I mean chad's new to the whole magna game, but I think you've grown an appreciation for it, but um, yeah, absolutely the

It was like it was romantic

That they were coming home. It was a it was a romantic feeling. You know, it was it was really

It and I think that's the only one I could I could put for it

It was it was romantic that this this these all these cars came back home

You know, it was something whimsical and something, you know

Something magical about about that day. You know, and they just kept coming like home to the town

You know back home to the under the roof where they're together

And the way that sorry to interrupt but the way that david and andrew decided to

Have them was you know, like they were spewing out of the production

All facing the same way

Because when we did the walkthrough on the friday night and they're like, oh you're gonna have these rows and i'm looking at the map

Think you're not gonna fit five cars across there

I couldn't quite get and laura said, oh no, we've measured it and i'm thinking

Look, I know garages and I know where you can fit a car

I don't reckon five of these are gonna fit across that with

And it was only about after half an hour that someone indicated that they're going long ways not

across ways, yeah

Right now I get it. Okay. Phew. That's good. Yeah, like I mean ed you um

Chad and I like and and thomas were were you know

After the cars were sent from from jim and david that was they were getting sent to us and we were lining them up and

We had all the white cars spewing out that was that was pretty cool

And the the yellows, you know the wasps were lined up and things and as we were as they were coming in

There was just there was the smiles on the people. Did you notice that? Yeah?

They just were just like happy to be there be there. They're like i'm taking my magnet to a car show like

They were they were ecstatic about it. It's been a long time between drinks for those people

It's a bit like

They it was plants you guys but it's a well like it did look like cars were driving out of the factory

Yeah, it it looks like down to you know, that's that's the way that's the way it was happening and and at one point

I was like

How many more cars can they pretend put possibly be and I walked down to the street and the street was gridlocked

with cars waiting to come in

and obviously a massive cloud of white smoke because of all the

Yeah, the all the oil being burned and

I was like, I just can't believe there's this many cars here

Yeah, it was incredible. I mean it was yeah, you're like they just kept coming like it was just like this doesn't end and you know

At some point I think I think lauren said oh, there's 72 gen 3s

which is you know the the wasp shape and

I was like I did a rough count. I said, oh, I'm thinking there's there's maybe 20 or 30 in here so far

Oh, shit

Where are the rest of these things gonna go?

This is really filling up fast

I think also touching back on the um

romanticism and sentimentality of it as well and I don't want to um

Over generalize here, but I think there's definitely a number of

Owners who perhaps for whatever reasons in their own lives have had challenges

And I think because the magma isn't universe hasn't universally been

Praised or well liked or fondly remembered is that that's quite there's a lot of solidarity with with that

Feeling as a car and as a person and so it was almost like a sense of finally we can sort of celebrate

This and not feel like I have to explain why

You know, I really fond of my variety or my magma or my rallya or whatever it may be because

Everybody here's a deco theme passion. That's very validating

It was a very safe space. It was and it's probably a good analogy to any minority group, you know, whether it's um

You know gender based sexuality based whatever it might be, but you know to find the freaks. No, that's not the right word

Is it not

Find the enthusiasm who who are like you in a minority group

Is rare and I mean I said to Andrew, you know, what you've done is given

People a platform that they have had for 40 years. There has never been

a magma or variety platform and so

Well, that was Adam Davis who's head of public relations in Mitsubishi

I said to Andrew, well, I

Michael's got a mate who works there. I had no idea what he did

It's just as so happened. That's what he was doing

And then we emailed the beta birdwood saying if we did a magna thing like would they be able to you know, could we bring

Magna's in it and Dane the guy who works for historic trust south Australia has his grandfather's magna that he bought new

So that was there Bertha was there on the day

Dane wasn't unfortunate because he was organizing the beta burglar which is

the biggest, you know car events in Australia

Which was the next day in the concourse was on the Saturday

but

But yeah, we actually did a walkthrough and met them both like 12 months ago in the space and and he said, yeah

Well, you know leave leave it with me. He said on this this would work really well, you know

It had to be there though, right? Yeah, I really did it just added so much to it

I suppose you could have done it somewhere else, but

Oh, there was talk actually we might do it in the car park at Mitsubishi headquarters, which is this next to the to the

Airport, but that would have been a full-back plan. It wasn't under cover

You wouldn't have got 120 cars in there

Or 150 cars as I think 155 was the final number, which is

So early on, you know, it was it was clear that yes, this was the possibility to do it there

So we had no backup plan other than that. So one of the things that kept me awake in the week leading up to it

We can't actually get them into the space, but that was just one of the things but

Maybe we would have had to have a sacrificial magna to get the ball

Ryan and his lovely wife Rachel and and Marley and Nora, they're little girls

And they were at Bader Birdwood on on Sunday. So caught up with them there as well. That's amazing. Right. How did he know you?

There are people there from like Townsville in Queensland. I talked to a guy from WA who'd driven two days across the Nullarbor

The Magna was it was a beige first gen manual in bugs and with these massive spots on the front like these roost

And I said, tell me your story and he said, oh, I'm a retired mechanic from Perth. I used to service this car

Um, you know, the old the old lady who had it sort of had it was insistent on it being serviced every

Six months and so he said when she finally sort of couldn't drive anymore

I sort of really had to buy it and and now he said it's really grown on me. I really like this

He's driven it from Perth across the Nullarbor to be

Um, so I thought he didn't even bother washing it was just to let all the bugs up

I thought that's dedication. You know one one young guy had come down from Newcastle

Said, oh, did you come with a maid or something? He goes, no, just me and the tunes, you know

Wow, like I'm like to drive from Newcastle Adelaide. That's a decent haul. Yeah. I'm just on your own

So I suppose we were lucky to go over with some some luck-minded friends, but

Yeah, it was um, it was definitely, you know, it's it's been it was I could have believed like you right there

the reach that this event had there w a and

Like to make the effort to come from w w was was just nuts. Like that's

You know, it's I mean you've done that drive it. It's and you did it in a Honda City, which is which is even yeah

Such was the the reach for this event. It was it just made it made me so proud to see all, you know, David and and

An injurious hard work, you know

Come to fruition that people from all over this this big country of ours and it is a big country like the Perth's a long way away

Yep, so it's you know, it was it just blew me away. It was definitely one of the best

I want to say one of the best weekends I've ever had it was it was it was that much fun

So I like that and there's cars from our wheelhouse too. Like yeah, it's it's you know, it's it's it's it's stuff that

That we grew up with in our era, which is which is great. I ended up getting a uh

Believe it or not, they didn't have a single sp21 magna at either of them

But they had an sp21 a polo. They had two of those

So I got some bits off that but then then we then we boogied home and and their cars were were great

It was yeah, we stopped at handoff got had a meal had a got a good meal

And then and then headed home, but you guys did beta birdwood. So um

I've got to say it's it's the far by far the biggest event I've ever car event. I've ever been to I think there was between

1200 and 1300 cars actually did the run

But lining the streets from west beach

In uh, which is sort of west of west of the city of adelaide right on the beach

It's in the name

From west beach into the city through the city then out through the north north western

Northeastern suburbs mod brie up to tutry gully

The street everywhere you went the streets were lined with people. There were

thousands and thousands of people cheering waving

Laughing pointing well I'm used to that of course, you know

Driving a scamp David. Yeah, that's correct. Um, but you know

Equal equal number of people going magnets. Yeah, you know

There was a lot of magna love on that on that drive, you know, people wave. I mean they they wave at anything. They wave at a fly

They did seem to light up seeing the magnets because it was a bit unexpected. Yeah, they

Well, they've obviously never had them there before

And and you know, it's adelaide and as we said they're all very connected to it

So they really did engage with the magnets like the the south eyes is a very they're she very proud of their of their product

You know, I was I was still in chad and um, and I was I think I told you this gym as well

You know, like they're I think I definitely told you chad about the farmers using iced coffee is like it's it's an ourselves coke

Yeah, Coca-Cola in in south Australia, which is like it's only one of two places in the world

I think where coke is outsold by something, you know, they're very they're very proud of their of their of their history and

That they are proud of the magna, you know and and speaking of a few people there they are

So it's no surprise that they were waving at you guys. We had um, we had preferred parking

We had that little M on our number

On the window of the car. So we all got to park in the same area together. Cool

But the the event is incredible if if anyone's like been lucky enough to think

See reels or anything of goodwood revival in the uk. It's probably the closest thing we've got to that

There was there was music themed to the eras of the cars. They were fashion parades

You could dress up to the the area of the car. I think the oldest car. I think was about 1910

So like 115

What's that? No cheese. Yeah, so uh, that was on I saw that on one of the clips of the news

So, yeah, and everything in between. Uh, there was an amphi car one of the um, yeah, I looked at that

Yeah, German built um cars with a triumph heral engine, but they're actually basically completely sealed

A fiberglass boat sort of thing with an engine and you can drive them

It was such variety there, you know and and it was sort of good other than the magnets that were all in the line

They were really sporadically parked and so you you wander around just row by row and you're like there's a purpose

Eureka in purple. There's a combi van with a dormable pop top. There's a you know

I mean, he came a lancia beatus sedan. Did you see that green beatus? Yeah, like just a real real mixed bag and

1500 cars was it?

That's what I heard on the news. That's what they said. Yeah, I ain't seen 1500 classic cars in one spot ever

And of course the whole idea of where that where it was located was the birdwood motor museum

Yeah, which is in a fantastic absolutely incredible

Museum if if you get it in south australia, it's definitely worth the drive and some great roads to get there too, you know

I think I think we all need to plan a trip and for next year's beta birdwood and we've got to start planning

The one thing I love about about that event and you see it on the reels and so is is the fashion like the people dressing up for the occasion

I think that's just brilliant

West beach to birdwood

Because obviously with saturday being such a worrying success and having what I turned effectively

A month in a weekend was that we were all

pretty shattered on sunday just from exhaustion and tiredness and also heat

While I was fortunate enough to drive one of andrew's cars. I was determined to make the trip as

Uh easy on and just possible. So I wasn't using any air con but I was

While I was sad for the individuals. I was rather moved watching all the american cars here. He'll go

an overheat

But the event itself was was wonderful as people have learned too. Um, I

Almost accidentally wanted into the museum itself and then

sort of froze in amongst all these

People that sort of was able to answer in front of me because I suddenly realized they in front of me were all these

Incredibly significant

Holden concept cars that only ever seen in pictures before and they're all just right in front of me

There is yeah completely like oh, there's this one and this one and this one and this one. Yeah, that was that was quite

Mind-bending. Um, but also what I'll add because I think it it summarized a little bit of um that

Very hard to pin down sort of reaction to magmas was

when we were leaving the bird water and I think, um

David was behind me and Andrew was in front of me. Um, we were sort of going, you know, quite slow because why have your cars exiting

And we passed a house that had a couple out the front and they were having a hold of flagged over the front

And initially I thought the lady was joking and I realized that she wasn't but she said, oh move those cars out of the way

They're blocking the view. Um, and then I think Andrew said something like, oh, you know

There's quite a few cars today whatever and she said oh yes, we're gonna do don't like magnets and then David said

Well, they're all coming out of the woodwork and then she said something else. And so, um, I just said we could just park here

And she went deadpan silent and just stop talking

I felt so vindicated then I was tempted to step out and go get a coffee

but

And um, so I thoroughly enjoyed that and then also the um the drive back and of course for me too

The weekend was quite significant because it was my first time out of um, victoria

um, and I was very privileged to

You know, we often sort of when we compare cars that are quite similar

Usually it's with quite a big gap in between, you know, there's some years and lots of cars in between

so recollections of how they feel can be sort of

Confused with other things but because I was privileged enough to basically drive seven different magnets or varadas all week and back to back

um, it was, you know, fantastic and um,

The varada that he brought was precisely the same as one that my grandfather had down to the color of the seats
