hello and welcome to this car pod I'm

Ken I'm FIP and there's a lot to talk

about let's do the news starting with we

are recording this today today's

Wednesday goes up on Friday there's a

massive fire rolling through uh the Los

Angeles area and people don't care about

disasters unless it's happening in their

area so a lot of people are going to be

they can't whatever they're going to

skip this this is serious this is a

serious thing it's a huge deal um also

very tragic for trag like a real thing

now I appreciate by the way all the text

message I've gotten from friends in the

east coast saying I hope I'm safe I am

safe we don't live in Los Angeles here

uh I've tried to make that point but

it's just everybody thinks that LA and

San Diego are really close together they

are not they are not um but anyway it's

a really really big deal obviously it's

tragedy from human life perspective

there are several fires going right now

the one in Pacific Palisades is a huge

huge huge deal I have friends up there I

filmed a ton of my videos in that area

um even if you're not from La Pacific

Palisades and Mal are where you hear

about like the rich people with insane

car collections that's where a lot of

them are from a human life perspective

this is a this is a you know dangerous

and sad situation incredibly taking it

to a car perspective as this is a car

podcast um you know the big story was

this bulldozer moving cars out of the

way that was like a big thing that came

out of this it's quite a scene it's

quite a scene they got video of it it

was safe to to shoot while they were

doing it but the real story that's going

to come out of this is the loss of

property both homes people aren't

understanding like no there are going to

be multi multi-million dollar very

valuable special cars lost in this fire

as of this morning so this was early on

because the fire is still about 0%

contained it's actually true of the

three biggest fires they're all about 0%

contained when we're filming this uh at

early this morning there were the report

was that there were 20,000 dwellings

fully destroyed I and those are

expensive dwellings people don't like

this is the the wealthiest of the

wealthy the highest end of the high end

stuff one day in Malibu 5 years ago I

was walking down the street and a guy

backed his was backing his Enzo out of

his garage yeah that might be gone and

when when fires like this happen they

spread so quickly um it's hard to know

that where it's coming and if it's

coming for you and people in this area

generally kind of take cover but a lot

of these areas are I mean neighborhoods

these are like neighborhoods that aren't

even really in next to Canyons or

forests or whatever and some of these

houses particularly the really valuable

ones like are not necessar people's

primary house they might be somewhere

else or they might or if you're at work

and all of a sudden there's a fire you

can't necessarily get home because of

this situation blocking areas with all

the traffic yeah totally I mean La is

known for it traffic so like and

especially some of these areas there was

kind of one Road in one road out sort of

things or narrow roads to get in and out

and people you know there's a ton of

traffic people are blocking it's not

possible and it's not the first thing in

your mind I mean to honest to be honest

it wouldn't be for me if there was a

fire near me I'm just going to say this

right now because I always see whenever

whenever there's a hurricane and the

vide show all the cars people like why

didn't they leave get them out and it's

like you don't get it like Hurricane's

turn at the last second happens all the

time Dam you're in an area that has

never been damaged before in 100 years

you think you're safe and then there's

one hurricane that comes and damages it

these people in Pacific Palisades never

would have thought I mean some of these

houses are 30 40 50 years old that these

areas are not areas that are typically

under winds things move quickly

incredibly quickly I literally it

wouldn't even be on my mind to try to

get the car you you get yourself out you

get your kids

family you you don't care about your

house you don't care about your cars

those are all replaceable right it feels

weird on this podcast then also say the

next sence which is there's some CS that

aren't really replaceable and I wonder

and I wonder the story that's going to

come out about some of those I have a

suspicion that we're going to hear that

some really really Irreplaceable cars

have been destroyed which the Ferrari

factory is going to start making some uh

some more cars you yeah you wonder about

that that's a thing that they have done

in the past yes um and you it is and

they've announced it I mean there were

some Enzos that that were completely

destroyed that they as long as you have

the VIN like it kind of or even if you

don't as long as you have the title

hopefully that thing go up in Flames too

but it is it is a yeah it will take a

long time to tabulate exactly what the

impact of this has been like from a

financial perspective on the world like

it's just the property value and then

what will that property be valuable in

the future and from the Cars perspective

like you said some of that is just gone

especially some of the really old stuff

that is because when we go to Malibu

Cars and Coffee I mean we saw real heavy

metal and that's all those people live

around there and and evacuations are I

mean this this fire I first heard about

at 4:00 and by 10:00 there I mean there

were many many many places gone and

you're thinking about where do I take my

kids how do I get out of here with my

kids my family my documents whatever and

it's crazy the good news is that so far

there have not been a lot of reports of

fatalities yeah not many as as we

filming this I've only heard of two and

none in this fire I imagine that will

change you have to assume like who cares

about the property whatever but it

is something it is interesting though I

agree who cares about the property but

it is interesting this will be the this

will be the costliest fire ever I I

haven't heard anybody say that but I

have zero doubt in my mind when the

home's burning down row after row after

row are all $20 million proper so then

you wonder you know do insurers pay out

do do some insurers are probably going

to not be able to pay out does the state

have to back stop some of this do they

rebuild in this area um what what does

that mean for the underwriting for some

auto insurance what does it mean for Los

Angeles in general like do the does does

this city does this city abandoned

Malibu I mean but it's not just Malibu

anymore like the the fire is at northern

part of Santa Monica brenwood there are

and because of the Winds and how dry it

is there's also small fires breaking out

further east which is insane I mean this

could happen anywhere essentially now

Hollywood Hills any of those places are

scary yes Embers could then be blown

into neighborhoods and start smaller

fires there those are a lot easier to

contain those are agreed um but like

damn it's crazy the whole situation is

absolutely wild and I'm very interested

saddened by the whole thing it is

unbelievable to watch um I have a

personal friend who lost his house a

very special house very special car and

I'm I'm sure uh it's just it's a sad

situation I think for a lot of people uh

but anyway take a long time to recover

from it long time okay if if they ever

do Palisades is a cool area it really is

I'm not a big La guy but that area is

really cool and and I I um it probably

will never be the same no

so anyway next news story back to more

Automotive related new Nissan Z which is

a car that no one has ever seen uh so

true that is so I saw one yesterday and

there was a real thought in my mind does

Doug have a Nissan card this week that's

how rare it is that I see one yeah

they're not around uh which is odd

because they the Z purportedly outsold

the Supra this year um reportedly to be

clear it is based on the sales numbers

released by Toyota and by Nissan this is

true uh the the Nissan Z sold 3164 units

in 2024 which is by the way is up 500

units from it's up notably from the year

prior and toyoto sold 2,600 suus just to

put that into perspective I just did the

calculation that is the number of Camry

they sell in five days

yeah they're not selling cars it's

pretty wild I we have to at some point

admit even as car enthusiasts it's

pretty wild that these automakers have

gone to the trouble to develop these

cars now to Toyota's credit Toyota

stopped doing developing sports cars but

they have partnered with other companies

and they continue to make sports cars

and that's probably the only way forward

for sports cars in the future mean

Nissan used their 370Z chassan backup

camera and a lot of other things from it

that's right and like that that's how

they made it work but I'm glad the only

way to make a successful and by

successful I mean number of cameras they

sold in five days you know I have bad

news for you how many CTS you think they

sold compared to Camry 1270 yeah

days but but the point is you know the

Supra you're right this was a bunch of

reused parts from the old Z this car is

going Austria like at the end of the day

sports cars are just not what at the

high end they still are by the way one

related piece of news uh majority of

Super Soul the word manuals of course

the way it should be I mean I think I

learned last week that when you had that

that data point that the remaining 29

manual cars whatever it is the majority

of them are Enthusiast cars will buy

them at this at this stage the only the

only I mean there the sports car of

course the majority of supers were sold

with manuals that's the type of person

that's it yeah that's all there is

anymore can I ask you a question okay

the Nissan Z in 2023 sold uh 1,700 units

so they were up 79% year-over year how

yeah what incentives surprising to me

are there incentives on initially I

heard they were production constraints

so obvious out they've also released a

new Nismo model right um I'm reading

here that it says that Porsche sold in

the US this is this is January to

September of 24 they sold 11, 911 so the

911 is radically more popular I mean

combine these two cars and then this is

just the US North America but tracks

yeah it does track you L more 91 but

it's crazy the 911 is like add these two

together and you're still at

Double yeah wow that that's wild never

would have thought when the Z came out

because I remember when the Z came out

never would have thought that what the

new one he said the I

me yeah I remember like thinking back

then it's like that the Porsche 911 to

see AZ felt very common to see a 911 F

uncomon turns out things Tides have

changed I'm very curious about this in

2003

which was the year the 350Z came out

which to me was like the Revitalize like

the peak revitalization of that car they

sold

36,000 in the US and last year they last

year the car is brand new this is

probably the first full year it's been

on sale they managed to move 3,100 W you

got to start saying sports cars

are especially not not not expensive

sports cars where they're still

desirable because it's cool like these

cars it's just nobody has the money for

an impractical car unless they have a

ton of money for an impractical car and

then they're not considering these right

they're buying an idol up yeah there

were how interesting

crazy were filled in 2024 there were

8,000 Miatas 8,000 Miatas that's still

relatively healthy but I mean you know

but that that that that's so little

compared to with Warfield and 350 zason

1991 Mazda sold 31,000 Miatas in the

United States so they're not incredibly

far off but the market cooled on this

which is interesting well now that car's

10 years old to to Mazda's credit they

do still they came out 15 the ND they do

still yeah I'm not wrong you're not

wrong I think came out of 14 but yeah

Mazda does still make the car and that's

really cool but like the another way to

to justify making a sports car in this

market segment is to just milk the hell

out of the days of a four of a fouryear

product cycle like na was 90 to 90 what6

97 and then the NB was 98 to 04 like

five six years they would do product

Cycles those days are gone y the only

way to make this happen is if you just

milk

come out

probably came out for the 20 M Year and

St ah yeah yes the Mustangs y the

Mustang Maki how many okay there was a

new Mustang for 2024 brand new Mustang I

was behind one yesterday rare I I saw

one recently the mus Maki you're

familiar with is is a small electric

crossover yes which one do you think

sold more uh I bet it's the

makis wow how did you ever guess what

were the numbers all right there were

about 52,000 machis sold in 24th which

is the best year ever the Mustang on the

other hand had the worst year year it's

ever had what ever I ever is with the

headline that motor one went with I have

not independently verified that it's

ever but it's notably not how many did

they saw they sld 44,000 44,000 which

compared to the super and the Z is

actually still pretty healthy but the

days of crazy Mustang sales do you want

to guess what the second worst year was

uh it's not last year yeah 2023 had a

little bump the second worst was Tech

2022 when they FLD 47,000 in 2005 when

the that was when the new Mustang came

out the new retro looking 10 new one

yeah no no in

05 not the new Edge sorry right right

the new Edge entered in 04 05 the new

one came out and they sold 161,000 in

the US that year in in ' 06 probably

it's first full year they sold 167,000

Mustangs what' you say 44 yeah but

adding the Maki how much was it with

with the

Mak they're still doing great with

mustangs that's

exactly it's I'm I'm actually it's the

new Mustang I think we can all agree is

a little bit of a disappointment from a

sales standpoint they're not you expect

a new generation to have a sales boost

that has not really happened I also find

a bit of a

disappoint it looks too somewhat of the

S I love the new Mustang but I have also

loved the new Mustang for the last

couple gens and I don't see a great

benefit if I'm in the

market I I'm I would buy a

three-year-old I'd buy a GT350

honestly AB the Maki is a legitimately

competitive EV and so it makes sense to

me that those that the Maki EV keeps

going up a little bit and the Mustang

has maybe lost the man crazy though it

it lends Credence to my uh trick that I

whenever I see someone and they tell me

that they have a Mustang I say to them

oh aaki and if this if you do this to

Mustang owners they get very angry but

no it's a real Mustang but now I'm gonna

be like well I don't know the r the

electric one's more popular I didn't

know I'm sorry i% more things are

shifting soon you have to start saying

what a GT350 to I know it's Maki

actually they should do a Maki

GT350 that would be interesting they

were do the Maki rally the GT and the

rally aren't they going to do that crazy

off-road one the rally is I think the

crazy off I thought there was going to

be like a like a one there was talk of

the Mustang brand expanding to an

off-roader there was not just talk Ford

confirmed that yeah but it hasn't

there's gonna be there's going to be an

off-road Mustang like a rally fight

Tesla confirmed the Roadster in 2016 you

know any now any day now by the way you

know what I got a lot of flack for I I I

said that thing about the Mazda 6 that's

why oh no sorry the Mazda 6 I don't

believe anything an automaker says

because the Mazda 6 I went to the launch

they said they' have a diesel and

everybody replied they did make a diesel

in Europe okay listen it was a US press

launch and they never made a diesel in

the US they committed to it heavily too

yeah heavily now I will say I went to

the Jeep Wrangler JL press launch press

launch in Tucson in 2018 by the way

that's an old car and uh and they

committed they said they would have a

diesel and you know what they did so did

they CR they did have a hybrid very

available for leas Deals they have a

plugin hybrid as well there was a diesel

for a while but it's gone I think I

assume I don't think there was ever are

there there was there was a JL diesel

was there Kennon and I were big fans of

it oh huge fan there's a diesel jail was

it made by that Italian company three

lit EC diesel no you're thinking of

people here's something nobody knows do

you remember the Jeep Liberty and the

Grand Cheroke had a I I thought that

that the the Wrangler one there was a

Wrangler EcoDiesel for a little while I

recall that but I thought it was made by

an Italian brand I can't help you out

this is the kind of thing Europeans do

yeah Americans at Baseline just assume

that American companies make everything

and so Europeans whenever I remember

when I worked at Porsche and there was a

plane crash uh an Air France plane from

South America crashed into the ocean and

they had to go find the wreckage and and

one of my German colleagues at Port show

was like you know a German company is

the one that helped them find the

wreckage and it's

like that is it really is something that

you're going don't you you know a

Belgian company was responsible for

making those paper clips actually

designing them in the first place there

is also something my mother would say so

I I feel bad that I've become that you

know all filipos become their mother

okay move on to the next new story We

we've hashed this out oh yes okay this

cannot be a real image it it looks it

right Honda came out at at at the

Consumer Electronics Show which happens

every year in Las

Vegas well we call it the consumer

electronic show no human ever has anyway

Hana came out with a couple of concept

cars that one of them was this they're

both called the zero there's the zero

SUV and the zero sedan I was just

reading the Press relas Saloon I'm sorry

I was just reading the press release

trying to find data there's no data it's

just like Tech it's about how there's Ai

and how the technology is azimo which is

like the name of their robot and now

it's the name of like the technology and

the cars but there's no like it's this

long and it's going to be sold in these

numbers and it's it's got a you know

hybrid there's none of that it's no no

it's just it's just a debuted design

sign and they said this is a car and

it's a combination of a Honda E and A

poar 3 it looks to me like a regular car

wearing a backpack does but but not like

the defender 130 which is a Defender

wearing a backpack different this it's

not a it's not a handsome automobile

this this vehicle it looks like what

you'd expect a car in an electronic show

to look like and is this is very as spot

like yeah oh my God that's exactly looks

like I take it all back I love it now no

I actually think I'm into all concept

cars of course they never they never

come out looking like this remember my

thing about the concept cars is when

they de when they debut the concept it

looks flashy and cool and exciting and

and then when it comes out it's the

accurate this has really ample room

between the tire and the wheel well so

maybe it's realistic offroading um I

will say it's interesting that these

cars are getting if it ever comes to

fision are getting revealed to CES CES

AO the auto shows are dead dead a shows

are dead I mean you got to wonder if the

auto shows make another couple rounds

you know cuz it's an annual cuz their

local dealer wants to to promote the new

true touched on something there it's

like I think yeah that would be all

that's what it's for the DS can't afford

to do the displays they used to the

manufacturers used to it used to be that

the that the in in the major markets the

big Auto shows which were New York La

Detroit

Chicago they the automakers would come

Geneva and obviously yeah Tokyo Geneva

Frankfurt for Paris Paris the automakers

would come and they and they would debut

new cars there was such an exciting day

when like you could like when like the

the the auto show press days were

happening and you knew that all of the

automotive blogs had all the photos all

the photos of all the cars was so cool

because because that was like it like

like every car was coming out that day

and it was kind of a it was kind of a

race to see like who would win the day

right like who would be the story coming

out of the auto show and those days have

changed but apparently at CES there's

enough interest in that physical show

that people are debuting cars there also

by the way one downside of there not

being Auto shows you lose track of what

cars are out for example there's a

vinfast vf9 it is a vehicle that is for

sale I know I got to send him an email

and like we because it it looks weird it

looks nobody knows because like you

don't if you're a smaller manufacturer

you don't get the Press coverage like if

Jeep releases a new Wrangler they get

press coverage regardless but the auto

show has kind of helped even out some of

that that's an interesting point you

really don't find out like what's on the

generally speaking the first time I know

a car is for sale is when I see it on

the road or when they send me a press

car sure but but for a long time it was

when it was at the auto show in

production form right it was like okay

that car is car driver did did a piece

on it Johnny liberman our friend and

that's how you wonder how long but do

you wonder how long you wonder how long

CES stays a thing also like it used to

be you know I mean I there are number of

events every year I'd wait for Apple to

release their products and they used to

have events where Steve Jobs would go

and talk to well now they do it it's all

pre-recorded and it's all virtual and

like they just have something and you go

and see it's not the same it used to be

so I do wonder if like Tech see the

the benefit though of having small

things for press people like if you want

the technology you want to hold it in

your hands like you want to see the Palm

Pilot the big Brands like like holding

the pal pilot apple and some others have

moved away from being part of it and

Mobile World Congress in Madrid

Barcelona which is a big deal uh but

it's still a big deal for the other

brands it is nonetheless interesting

that the automakers see fit to do this

at CES that tells you the direction

they're going this is more of a

technology play than an automotive play

never thought I'd be able to talk about

the Mobile World Congress at on on the

podcast move on to the next story um

also did this was at CS last year if

memory serves memory doesn't no yeah

this is the Sony Aila it's made the Sony

Aila so it's the word feel and an A on

the front and an A on the back I feel

you oh that's nice Sony I feel you if it

is made in partnership with Honda so it

is actually made by Sony Honda mobility

okay um it will be available in the US

it is they they they are pretending this

is a car that's for sale in California

only Sony is making a car yeah that's

but with with with Honda so is it going

to be branded as a Honda or Sony I it's

going to be brand is it a f the say a a

f one so this is like how TVs used to

have like yeah brands that weren't okay

can can I tell you what is on their

website as the main things yeah it the

tagline is where Mobility meets

intelligence they say that it starts

from $90,000 which is dramatically

overpriced 90,000 Amic by it only has

300 miles of range and only has 400

something horsepower so this is like

Lucid air stuff but way more expensive

uglier uglier and slower for those who

can't see it has a bunch of sensors that

are on the roof that look awful I'm glad

you no those that's the future because

it says above above the fold there's

starting from

899 EP estimated range up to 300 miles

and then the one in between is sensors

40 units 40 sensors I will say 40 units

I will say when I when I was reviewing

those Chinese cars maybe I told you this

on the Pod but when I was reviewing

those Chinese cars and they gave me a

spec list like horsepower price was all

on it but then like the eighth thing in

the list was like number of sensors

number of Radars number of and it was

like this is a thing that we're gonna I

how many sensors you got I got I got you

know how people brag about the number of

speakers their car has or like the tire

size I mean sensors this is not

necessarily new I remember top you're

mentioning something that many years ago

they couldn't find the horsepower figure

but they could see like what Bluetooth

features it had I mean people used to

brag about the seven series had more the

E38 had more computers on it than sent

the man to the moon so maybe the people

maybe people brag about this I mean

otherwise maybe it's because it's an

exceptionally boring car and there's

nothing else that's interesting about it

but there's nothing else interesting

about it it's dramatically overpriced

for the market what's interesting me is

why are they even selling it in the US

well let me California only by the way

because they don't have dealers they

have they will have like just like Lucid

honestly has or they'll have like

Senator Ms I'm going to teach you

something fully please I reviewed a

xiaomi sue7 iall it was here in the

obious it it it was great it was blue it

was and greenish blue and the thing

about xiaomi is that yesterday they were

making phones no cars and today they're

making cars and phones right so why are

they making this because it's time to

Branch out dude I understand why they're

making it like I'm gonna make I'm gonna

make a prediction here I'm gonna make a

prediction the automotive industry has

been fenced in by regulation true for an

enormous amount of time two big

regulations especially North America

dealer Network

yep uh EPA and

comp neither of those things are here

any especially if you're willing to sell

just in some states so the dealer

Network thing is gone and Sony

apparently are the dealer Network thing

is gone because yes a lot of states have

allowed the automakers to just sell

directly yep the regulation thing is

gone because EVS don't have to meet

emissions so your only requirement is is

safety and that's not all that hard and

a lot of that is like very formula are

your headlights big enough me and Kenan

could make a we could meet safety

requirements long weekend with a couple

cold on treat metal

fundamentally yeah um and so my

prediction is that we're going to see an

explosion of new automakers and and I'm

making this prediction slightly late

because Tesla is one of the new

automakers and it's it's already been

around for 15 years so it's you could

say that I'm not really at the Forefront

of the times with this prediction y but

I'm looking at the Chinese market and

I'm seeing all these new cars by

companies that like didn't exist

yesterday and now they make a 5,000

horsepower sedan that jumps which by the

way should have been one of the new STS

you see that we're going to get into it

later okay I I it is also interesting

right I wonder if it's a way for

somebody like Honda who has partnered

with Sony on this to they don't really

have their own EV Tech there's a way for

them to maybe experiment a little bit

with a brand that it's not tied to Honda

explicitly it's not branded as a Honda

they can do some weirder things right

like

a oddl looking car that's massively

overpriced but this maybe this is the

future why don't the electronic

companies come into this they already

making batteries they're already making

they already making screens at this

point it's not that much different the

only thing people care about now with

cars is batteries and screens but here's

the thing it's like okay so let's say

that there's this huge explosion of

Brands like there was in the 1920s like

when the car yes they well yes there

were there were so many that that

existed and then they all disappeared

eventually they because they were just

how then do you begin to differentiate

between these cars of like is do you is

it you're bragging about screens and

sensors or is it like they all just

become the same I'll tell you the the

jumping thing was interesting because

the way to differentiate is going to be

this is this is interesting people have

been asking me for a long time are you

worried when cars become electric that

no you know no one's going to care about

your videos anymore because they'll all

be about the same I totally think it's

the opposite I think in order to

distinguish electric cars from

themselves automakers are going to have

to come up with weird stuff electric

cars are going to have to have gimmicks

going viral is how you'll sell cars we

can call it quirks and features if you

will but I mean that we had the mg

cyberstore in the office with its with

its like butterfly doors and tail lights

that are crazy I mean in order to

differentiate an electric car you have

to do stuff like that we already saw

that Yang Wang SUV that floats and now

released in the last couple of days is

this video about this Yang Wang sports

car that can literally jump now there's

not a person in the world who thinks

this is a real video this car cannot

jump but your the point of it is is that

electric cars in order they're all the

same they drive the same they in order

to distinguish themselves stuff like

this is going to have to start happening

it's an interesting thing the big

question becomes about Discovery like

you choose to buy a an accord or a Camry

because you know that's at the dealer

you know they have a good reputation if

all these upst Brands you don't know how

Sony's reliability is you don't and I

will say every time one Fails Like

Fisker I think it reflects poorly on all

of them I think everybody who would have

considered a Fisker is like oh maybe I

won't get a rivian now maybe I won't get

a lucid now because I'm anxious that

that brand might also fail but I think

that this could be the future of of

brands why wouldn't it be it's really

interesting it's like from a car market

standpoint you see you're seeing

consolidation Nissan Honda merging and

then you also are seeing like weird new

upstar brands and Innovation for

companies that have money like Sony is

also creting or Yang Wang which we don't

know anything about is CR like it's

interesting you're seeing consolidation

in traditional spaces and then a lot of

new brands yeah but Discovery does

really become the question like how do

you choose to find out about yangang

Wang right because they y Wing is a byd

brand I didn't know that but yes it is

the point is the point is these electric

cars are coming there's nothing there's

there's fewer barriers to entry than

they ever were when I was a kid and when

they come out with this Aila which is

heinous and overpriced that's how it's

going to be but like cars more cars are

coming the Faraday Futures the rivan the

crossover brand Ferrari with sports cars

AMG and with bmwm and frankly with

Maserati that you can mess with historic

Heritage Brands and it have it not

really hurt you all that much AMG people

made fun of me for the my Maybach take

that I think they should do a Maybach

line of Mercedes cars but but they and

they're like well that would that would

water down the brand I don't know they

did it with AMG it didn't water wasn't a

historical they were a brand that made

cars went to fun for 70 years you're

is you can mess with these Brands and

still be okay and as long as Ferrari

keeps coming out with the SP 3s and the

sp4 and five whatever the future ones

are they probably have they probably

to be it's people who want the brand

Ferrari is more than happy to make a lot

of cars at high profit margins that

who lives in London you can only drive

have their other Ferrari but they want

to have one for driving around

it's not appealing to me it's appealing

think they will continue making very

making those cars but the future of the

Brands they they want to make money look

the does the wheel part the wheel part

is clearly Dam damag but did that

earlier module fall out of yes that

module which is the blind spot sensor

fully fell out that module alone with

programming is $1,500 oh God you're

doing tailight you're doing bumper this

panel need to be replaced by there not

thankfully doesn't need to be replaced

that would be impossible because

replacing it it's the one that go all

way over uh but it doesn't be pulled out

it all need reped yeah um this car is

worth $5 to $20,000 man 15 we're

at that is the right number not worth 15

to 20 after this oh and a small accident

where the their truck which is like a

contract like like a a work truck has

like some scuffs on the side that low

speed impact Seven Grand Seven Grand so

newer cars this a 10-year old car but

newer cars are so expensive this car was

in an accident what 18 months ago a year

a year a year and a month prior 13

months ago it was hit today it was hit

or last week that one was like n Grand

cuz the headlights are really expensive

so it was $7,000 to repair it's like and

was the TA isn't that expensive but

there's probably other electronics there

their sensors and stuff imagine how much

more expensive they're going to be

repair this is a car from a long time

ago that is crazy expensive although

right like that that's like a simply

replaceable part but it's yikes indeed

it had miles what was the miles it had

63,000 miles and it had been used and it

had some mods and one of the things that

it remains tremendously valuable it does

and the the thing that's interesting to

me about it is that um it remains

tremendously valuable despite the fact

that the M2 comes out has come out and

is obviously better it's more powerful

it's more fun it's more you know throw

it around and there's an m2cs and

there's an M2 competition and those cars

are excellent they're better in every

way but this is this car is an

interesting proof of special WIS at the

end of the day yep special wins out

over so I'm actually going I'm flying to

Arizona to review one tomorrow that has

about 2,500 miles on a really really

special car but one of the thing yeah

Special wins I mean there there just

aren't that many rare modern production

BMW and like from a collector

perspective it's like this is a

wonderful car to drive cemented its

reputation as being lauded by

journalists in its time so much so they

ended up producing way more than they

thought they were going to and built

6,300 of these wow and and avilable only

available in three colors it has lore

around it that then gave birth two cars

that sure are better but then they just

produced lots of those because the

command was there right this was a

special car and at the time it was

revered as it's part of that analog year

of the e9x M3 which was an awesome car

to drive the E6 M5 which was an awesome

car to drive this follows in that era

and it's like it's the collectible one

of them all due to its production

numbers yeah and its production numbers

and also like you said the lore the

specialness ETC because on paper an M2

or an m2cs or M2 comp is a better car

but but this car and its continued value

holding is proof that special is a

bigger determinant than than good and

this annoys me every time someone's like

don't you know that such and such car

drives like crap it's like dude don't

ever drive a 250 GTO right and you love

to make that example and that is that is

I mean yeah 250 GTO is a it's an old

race car that there are a lot of cars

that are faster than it but there aren't

two they aren't 250 GTO they aren't more

special and this car is proving proving

me wrong you know I love this car when

it came out I tried to get one uh and I

tried to get used one for a long time

then the M2 came out and I drove M2 and

I was like you know the M2 is better I

think I'll just pass on the 1 M and and

I don't know I mean the markets can can

still considers this meanwhile pull up

what m2s are selling for which have more

power 30 right they is that true yeah

can you get them in the 20s already I

working and so you don't have time to

reviewed a Suzuki X90 yet okay here's

the deal that's a great question I only

review cars now uh two types of reviews

I may have mentioned this five minutes

ago I don't know if we're what makes the

pot I two types of reviews new cars and

cars that are on the repeating okay uh

and so as a result of that I the cars

that I that go up that I that are used

cars that are older cars are on the site

they're for for Saturn SL except for

that one Saturn SL um and so so I don't

actually have a lot of choice I have a

list I would say a list of 400 older

cars that I'm looking to review at any

given time and from there it just

becomes a question of what happens to

pop up in Southern California on the

site and so the Lexus SC300 like ca the

Z3 coupe there's a few of these that

either just gone up or about to go up

and so because they were here and

they're on the site the an X90 hasn't

popped up for whatever reason but if you

have one in Southern California you want

if you have an X90 in SoCal and you want

to sell it and it's in good shape and

ideally it's either purple or has the

base wheel I'll take the alloy but the

base wheel you're so right the base

wheel on the X90 was objectionable I

mean it was objectionable it's like they

were making fun of the people who are

buying the car and frankly the whole car

was like that and if you own one don't

be offended just pull pull up the X90

base wheel go to the site I think we've

sold a few no no no just type in X90 did

we not sell one by our friend my vernes

uh yeah myin Verna so that but that's

not the right wheel it's not get out of

this one uh these all have the alloy ah

alloy stuff you go to go to the go to

the Google go to the google.com Suzuki

X90 Bas wheel quite something I I had to

look that up cuz it was a line I wanted

to send to him like X90 base whe no I

don't think this is going to happen you

those older cars is a 987 Cayman that

yes and that's sold by one of our

producers yes our producer has a Cayman

on the site and I don't know if I've

ever done a 987 video but regardless

those cars have become such deals I felt

like it had to Happ are I love that I

drove it for a video on cars and beds

and it's such an excellent car such a

nice car it is so good I drove that and

the na Miata back to back on separate

days what a day or two days both of them

both of them are so are are exactly the

same they're they're they're radic

radically underpowered and unbelievably

amazing the C's not radically

underpowered I enjoy a card that I can

literally floor through several the S

clear about this when I launched the

Doug score in 2017 I said I would be

constantly changing the scores because a

car that gets a 10in features when it's

six years old no longer deserves a

tenant features I still do that all the

time so people are like oh my Doug score

was this it's like well today it is but

like I change them literally every week

every single week I'm adjusting the Doug

score so it happens all the time so

don't get a vanity plate with your Doug

score on point in time you can go to

everybody I'll accept that that's fine

no the tur the turbo you feel is the 9

tur has retained value in a way that the

996 turbo has very much not no and and a

lot of other ones have retained value

like the the 991 is about to depreciate

past the 997 for specific subsets no no

I agree actually certain versions of

course but that's true of every car but

I think he's the general question that

he's asking is will it happen because

even regular 964 is and 993 anybody can

predict the gt3s and the rs's and the

special cars will go up obviously it's

going to happen will the regular ones no

is a production number difference the

996 broke the chain only in the sense

that Porsche when they came out with the

996 in 1997 98 decided to become a real

company right previous to this Porsche

was not a real company they were they

were a hobbyist garage yep 100% agre I'm

not entirely joking here and so in '98

they were like you know we either have

to remain a hobbyist garage and probably

be bought by a company yeah or we have

to like start doing the options were go

bankrupt or sell cars go bankrupt or

sell cars they chose to sell cars really

was buy out or sell cars and and and

give up to Mercedes or Volkswagen and

they decided to sell cars and so the the

reason the 997 will never go up is

because the production number difference

is just absolutely ason astronomical in

addition to the air cold water cold

thing it's just a incredibly different I

feel like regular 993s and 9964 are down

a little bit they're down but but they

are up compared to I mean when I when I

was looking in 10 you could buy one for

30 that's that's no longer the case a

993 cab and a 997s cab are the same

price yeah I me is that something okay

the 997 is still dropping yeah and I

don't think it's ever going to go up

listen there was a time when a regular

993 was like a 90 car I think those

prices have come down but there will

never be a time when a base model

regular 9 and7 maybe some late tws with

a stick in nice shape and nice color

blah blah blah General car is just it's

just there's too many of them great I

think it's fine it's it's a wonderful

car to buy and own and like I I think

it's fine that's a good point it is

great it's it's nice that it remains

accessible I do think they have more

potential than some later ones I can't

like than a regular one has more

potential to increase than a A2 997 than

like a 991.1 do2s will be the special if

it ever happens it'll be 911 the last na

911s so who knows that might have
