I'm like, I could just vacuum around it.

So I needed a new headset, but it's the, in the Macbook, it's a regular aux input for headphones.

Speaking of old technology, I watched Mission Impossible to 1996,

the original, you know, with Tom Cruise, not the original Mission Impossible,

like cell phone involvement like upload, you know, uploading something using a

cell phone is like very novel.

It's a pretty like modern looking laptops and the Motorola razor was invented,

but that seems like a still pretty like advanced cell phone.

Prior to that, the 96 version is a classic kind of look at that era.

I don't know your thoughts, but the first I don't know if I've ever seen any

Mission Impossible.

You know, it's it's pretty disappointing on the car front that the nineteen ninety

six one doesn't really have anything great, but it in the two thousand was a

two thousand one.

I think it's a four or five year gap to the second one and that one has the

Audi TT and I think it's two thousand Audi TT and a nine and six cab.

So it's like double cabs.

Was it or I'm assuming a cab with the baseball stitch like whatever interior?

off market for a while and I'm going to hold that dream close to my chest and

then maybe at some point if I really it's like it's like quietly offered

currently.

Yes, it's someone that we know that's like knows that I want one of these and I

said and I've and I'll continue to say this.

I want a driver.

I want a high mileage, well maintained driver like that's exactly what I want

because of also the ultimately the cost, but also because it's going to be the

most reliable and it's a car that I can use.

So I'm not worried about that.

So this car has seventy five thousand miles on super rad.

It's a it's a manual, but it's a read over tan and it's the nastiest.

And it's the palest fucking ugliest hand and and the prices is you know relatively

affordable, but not not quite enough for me right now.

But but I was thinking like if you know, it just it just reminded me of you know,

we're talking through this and you know, car movies and all that like red car,

very iconic.

They do look fantastic, but I think I would probably do something sacrilegious if I

got a red one and I would probably have it wrapped.

experience, which is super cool.

They still look good with the top down all that, but I'm worse.

right for me.

And I'm like, well, yeah, like you have no power.

Like you can use all of your power and all of that momentum.

And if you have a car that has a significantly bigger like foot,

like actual like footprint, right?

In terms of the actual tread and contact patch, that's way more

prone to hydroplaning and they have more power.

So it's way more.

It's a much more challenging drive, right?

So whereas Amiata has got the skinny tires and they're sticky and

they're going to sink.

They're going to carve through that shit and you have very little

power.

So that's why they're so good at autocross, right?

Because like you can use all of the power and all of that momentum

and not really lose any of that in just by sliding them and yaw

and slip angle.

So no, it's a it's definitely a thing.

But yeah, I think the perfect example of what he's asking is the 930.

It's like, like, yes, in period, I bet it was sketchy as hell, right?

Like, I mean, if you were like as immediate, you would light them up

when they would come on boost and it would come on boost at the wrong

time because you're blowing it and you didn't really know it versus

doing a swap, you're never going to be under 20 grand as art

learned.

Now if we're just looking at a Radwood era car with those

features, we might be able to come up with something manual

steering, high revving engine and a manual transmission like

maybe an MR two.

How about an 86?

manual trans, but you're not going to get there under 20 K.

Um, and 86 already comes with all of these things without having

to swap.

Um, you can get a manual steering rack.

I think 7,500 RPM redline, um, and manual trans and they're,

you know, you can find them for like high teens and like driver

condition and you can definitely swap an even higher revving version

of that motor, the 20 valve, which would be sick and I would love

to see.

How about like an Integra or something from that era?

I mean, that being said, my nine 11 does not have power steering.

It's all manual, but you know, like a nine six four, you're not,

you don't get in that and go, Oh man, I would have manual steering

compared to my car.

or my E 30 is like, yeah.

Or a modern or a modern or a nine 44, dude, drive a nine 44

manual rack and a regular one, people that claim they want manual

rack or just want it because they can say that because the power

steering rack is so much better, dude.

My mark two GTI was almost impossible to drive once I did all the

suspension and it was just like at low speeds, it took two hands

for sure and planning anyone that drove the car.

Like, yeah, you had to like think about it, you know,

instead of just one handed whipping around.

So, uh, 62 Roadster says, what's the most resourceful you've been

in the field to get a car going that won't move on its own power.

Um, I had a recent, uh, roadside repair that I had to do,

um, when my throttle cable connection broke at the pedal.

So I lost all throttle, um, thought I broke the cable and then

found that the grommet that connects to the back,

the cable was or to the pedal was blown up.

So I was under there using some of Peter B's grommets and zip ties

and tape and half of mango and some tin foil and then, uh, got it going.

So I was able to drive not only the rest of that day, the entire

last day of the rally and all the way back to Santa Cruz on this

janky ass repair.

And so yeah, that was, that's what comes to mind.

Nice. Um, you did not do the rally thing where you put a dude

like your co-driver in the engine bay and actually like manually

doing the throttle.

Dang, that is a miss.

I should have done that.

Like windshield wiper where you're like, give like a string.

What I've done is that just comes to mind.

It's not necessarily a roadside repair, but, um, I was once

changing a water pump on a mark one, uh, GTI and the one of the

bolts broke off and, um, and so instead of actually like going

through the motions of like pulling it out and everything.

And I needed to like, it was one of those things.

I was at Matt's house of all places in college and, um, I needed

to get home and I'm like, shit, I'm not going to be able to do

this now.

So I used a vice grip to actually clamp it back on.

Uh, and so I managed to hold it in place against the block that

way just to get me home.

I filled it with water because it was already leaking.

I needed to replace it.

So, but I was able to refill it, get myself home and then repair

it later.

But, um, that's kind of this, but like, you know what?

One thing that comes to mind for you are is your E 30 on that

rally where the radiator hose or the cool hose was leaking.

I forgot about that.

And you went like full blown bandaid fix, but like really legit.

Like how many zip ties were involved in that?

Oh yeah.

What Warren's talking about is, um, um, one of the, uh, the

radiator hoses split and, uh, and so what I did is I, I duct taped

it with gorilla tape and then I added like maybe like 10 zip ties

around it to reinforce it, to keep it closed and it totally worked.

I actually drove it at first look.

You're like, there's no way this is going to work.

It's going to find its way out at some, some point I'll get too

hot and just, uh, nature finds a way or yeah.

Well, what I learned is that it's actually that, that cooling

systems are actually like relatively low pressure.

So that, that was, that was very helpful.

Like, you know, because otherwise if it was anywhere else, um, I,

I wouldn't have worked, but I drove it one full day on the

rally like that and I drove all the way home.

Like what was that?

Like 250 miles.

Probably probably yeah.

Yeah.

That was, yeah, that was a good one.

I have a, um, I don't know.

I probably have some I can't remember, but we did, uh, we bought

a lemons car once and it broke down a side of the road.

We had to use like, uh,

Oh, safety pin for the distributor for the rotor.

We had to like put it on the, on the actual rotor cause the rotor

was broken. Um, that was a thing.

And then on the rat on our, um, actual on our lemons car,

dude, we did some gnarly stuff like mid race repairs.

Like we had a shock break in half and we just had to have it.

We like had our neighbors next to us like we jacked it up,

straighten it up and then they welded it just solid, solid,

just solid welded the shock.

I mean, that was pretty gnarly and finish the race on that.

So with that one, one shock, not shocking.

We lost our whole exhaust or the hangers all broke and the

muffler was dragging and someone just had this like piece of

metal strap that we just straight up drilled straight into

the bottom of the car and held the whole thing up like a big,

you know, bandaid.

Yeah.

I took a, I borrowed my brother's sob to go to LA for a

concert with Prasa than Brian and, um, we're going to the house

of blues in LA in, in Hollywood.

And on the way there, we hit one of those, like one of the,

the, the, what was it?

Good rich or the Ford Explorer tires.

Ford Explorer.

Oh, Ford Explorer.

But what were the tires like?

What was the fire stones?

One of the fire stones, like it right in front of us,

just the tire, the tread just came off of it and it goes under

our car and it, and it knocked the exhaust loose.

So the exhaust was hanging.

It like broke in the middle, the center before the center

muffler and it was hanging.

So like the back was hanging down.

So like the opposite way of you, you would want it to do, you

know what I'm saying?

So it was like against the, yeah, it was catching.

Um, and we, we had to pull, we, we actually drove it like that

for a while and it was gnarly loud and scraping.

And then we were able to, um, we, we went to a, um, like a,

like a dry cleaner and we just got a bunch of clothes hangers

and we like wired them up just so the thing wasn't dragging

basically.

And then we were able to get it fixed like the next day,

but, uh, and make it to the concert that night.
