Let's crack on. Stranded with some car updates.

We started with Ed, so we'll start with Ed.

Let's go. What's up with you?

Where did we get to last time? I can't remember what.

What do you recall? You sold the euro.

That was the last time we spoke. Oh, sold the euro.

Yeah, there was a, there was a little time there, maybe maybe only a week or so where I didn't have any stock cars.

You know, I had my normal cars. And I did say to a couple of

people, you know what, I'm really looking forward just to driving my own cars and tinkering and just enjoying the fleet. But then I I got not COVID, I've

got some sort of sickness and was in bed for three days with a bit of a temperature and throat and you know all that jazz.

You got the Advid. Yeah, the advert.

And then of course, when you're at home and I was feeling a little bit better, I started to sort of bring out the laptop and have a little sniff around and I found a Jeep that I thought looked good. Yeah, you, you've said that you,

you bought a Jeep or we know. That Jeep in Jeep?

Yeah, you were that. Yes, you were.

You were very you were very sick when you bought that, obviously.

I had a fever. Quite the fever anyway.

That's a good excuse. Watch my Jeep.

Oh, I had a fever. I had.

A high. Temperature, I wasn't well to

follow on from that purchase the Jeep, the Jeep really is quite clean and drives well and all those things.

And I just thought maybe I maybe I can just get this roadworthy and sell this Jeep and but no, no, that doesn't happen with Jeep. So the check engine light was on

and I thought usually that's an oxy sensor, but all the oxy sensors have been tested. There's four of them on that car

and they are all fine. And the mechanic believes that

the Jeep has potentially got a burnt valve cause the exhaust is a little fluffy, a little uneven.

And so it hasn't been confirmed with the compression test.

But I'm really not interested in delving any further.

So the Jeep will probably go to the auctions.

I think that's the Jeep. I might use up the half a tank

that's in it first and then send it.

So that's that. But as well as that, I did start

going on a bit of a Honda Jazz buying spree.

If I mention those, no. You were the jazz club.

I bought a 15 model Btis in white 109 K Very tidy car so that's currently for sale. I also bought an O8 GLI auto so

second Gen Jazz in bright yellow.

Helios yellow for those playing at home and that's done 43,000 K, so super low KS on that. But they're both really nice,

clean 2 keys, wall mats, factory, you know nicely kept cars. So I've got those alongside.

But they won't be going to the auctions.

Ideally, David, No, ideally dearly.

But hey, you know, never say never.

And the other car I bought, which I don't know if I've mentioned on here at all yet, is a 19 sorry, 2001 Peugeot 306 sedan diesel manual. So that's an HDI common rail

diesel being the last of the little 30 sixes.

Bought that off a friend who David knows.

And yeah, that's, that's a nice little thing.

It needs a bit of love that I describe that to people.

It's a bit of a love project. That car, you know, it's, it's,

it's not a big money spinner if if at all, it probably won't be a money spinner at all, you know, but I like them.

I've always liked them. They're very good on fuel.

They're engaging to drive. And I'm just tinkering away

fixing up little bits and bobs on it.

That was kind. Of like the last kind of cool

little Peugeots. Yeah, yeah, because after that

it went 307, which is a frumpy hatchback that that isn't very attractive. And yeah, three O 6 is a well

renowned. They're a bit like an E36 BMW in

that good handling, good in that day, well renowned.

Some bits are made of paper mache and fall off, but inherently the the bones of it are sort of a good chassis and a good car. And it's a bit like that yeah.

They're not quality wise in some regards they're not great, but but they're certainly engaging to drive for a front driver.

They they go around corners very, very well.

In fact, I was talking to my friend Rowan the other night and he he goes, Oh, there was a great ad for one of those.

He said, do you remember this one?

He put it on YouTube, but it was watch your Corolla turn into a pig, watch your Mazda turn into a something.

And then the final thing was and watch your Peugeot turn into a corner. You know, it shows the three O 6

really just gripping the road. And I can attest to that.

This thing sticks very, very well when chucked into a corner.

It's good. It's on good ties.

It's on Michelins, but as it, as it should be being a flinch.

But yeah, it's, it's a fun little thing.

And reportedly you get like 12-13 hundred K out of a tank.

So I, I, I gleefully filled it up the other night and I'm measuring so far it's just moved off full and I've done nearly 300 K. So that's a good sign.

Good. It's a good sign that it'll be

good. How big is this tank yet?

It's a 60 litre tank, which for a little sedan is quite big.

Yeah, huge. Yeah, I mean 1200 KS out of a

tank. Well, they seemingly do 4.1 or

3.9, you know, like apparently they're amazingly good on fuel,

which I knew they were, but I've never owned one.

So, well, to put it this way, the previous guy that owned it, who David and I know, he lived reasonably close to work and he filled it up once every four months.

Oh my. God.

And just for those playing at home, do fast.

That's three times a year. So you can do your work commute

and fill up three times a year. That's not bad.

Now admittedly he lived quite close to work, but that's that's what we're dealing with here. I'd like a driver that I think

that'll be. That'll be interesting.

I think he should have a driver, but I'm getting a new clutch cable put in it because it's it's quite stiff and the clutch itself feels fine. And they said, look, it's nine

times out of 10, it's the cable. But that of course, is a, a long

and involved cable from the other side of the car because originally they'll lift and drive and blah, blah.

So I'm getting that done by a Peugeot sort of specialist.

And then, yeah, the other stuff, it's more cosmetic.

You know, I'll put another driver's seat in it because the original one sort of rocked backwards and forwards.

It was busted on on the frame or something.

Don't make me probably taking too many sharp corners.

Yeah, maybe I'll replace it. It's just the torque of the

diesel alum. You know, it pushes you back in

the seat. That does it.

It is very torquey. It's 67 kilowatts of power but

like 211 Newton metres of torque, which doesn't sound very much, but in a little car like that it does pull very well.

Is it, is it a turbo? Yeah, turbo diesel.

Diesel. Yeah two litre turbo diesel same

motor that was in the four O 6 bigger brother, but this is smaller lighter car. So I'm I'll report back in.

Well, it might not be next week, might be in a few months time when what the fuel light comes off you have.

To refill. It.

Yeah, well, I have to refill it. Well, I remember you've talked

about these cars in particular, that model for years.

Yeah. And you've always, you're always

like, I forgot a nice one. I'd, you know, I'd hold onto it

and drive it for a bit and enjoy it.

It's. OK.

But but I'll, I'll bring it back.

I'll bring it back. I want to find a set of factory

alloys for it, ideally there. There were some online, but they

got sold. But there might be another set.

And you know, I'm just, you know, just bringing it up to Ed's standards. That's your cars.

I've got not much else to report.

The Barkle and everything where I pretty much took over your whole show. I think I called the whole.

Phone I just I just finished editing that episode I which is which it's going to come out the other tunnel tomorrow and and I was like yeah he did talk a bit about it that's the.

Bible Look, it wasn't a long and involved story, so you know it needed to be. It needed to be.

It needed to be and. That was kind of cut short.

I could have had other bits and pieces that happened throughout throughout that time, but. My head went that way and my

legs went. My legs went that way.

Could be in the part peezus. The seafood boots still on and

everything's going fine. So good.

Very good, David Prince. With me so the latest

installment in the the little orange car that could well I can last week I mentioned that I had an air box that I dropped off that was going to be did it. It doesn't fit because it turns

out that the one that was actually sent from Japan was from non turbo rather than turbo 660.

OK, Yep. It won't fit.

So we have to order another one from Japan, which should hopefully take a week at 10 days and just order it through a dealer and buy the VIN number and then that way we really can't go wrong. Hopefully.

Famous last words and the workshop where the car was, I had been out there a couple of times by then and the car was still sitting out. It's it was in a court in one of

the eastern suburbs and the car was still sitting where it had been left on the on the sort of concrete apron out the front.

And so I said to the guy, so the car will just stay there now till, till the other bits in. You said we can't.

That's the last thing we're waiting for.

It's all compliance actually got the VIN number on it already.

It's got the compliance on the, on the big pillar.

So they've done everything except signed off on the fact that it needs this, the original air, air air box rather than the blitz pod philtre that it's got fitted to it.

So I said, well, I'm not really happy about that.

Just sitting out there outside for a couple of weeks.

So he said, well, he's, I said, I've got access to storage, you know, can can we get it? Can we get it off the street?

And, and he said, yeah, George, your Carter, he said you can do it if you like with it, you know, within reason, if you've got a permit to drive it, you can take it anywhere you like.

It was insured and everything. So I picked it up Friday morning

and brought it home. So it's actually sitting in my

garage, which is good and bad. Good in that I can fiddle around

with it. And I can't actually drive it

any distance necessarily. And I don't really want to until

it's all signed, sealed and delivered it in my name with my plates and stuff. So, but that's the bad news.

The good news is that it drives absolutely brilliantly.

It's exceeded every expectation so far, so.

Has it drive better? Does it drive better than the

yellow one you drove? I would say it does, yes.

Yeah. So it's.

And is that because of the mods on it?

I think so. I think so.

It's it's it's it's got an exhaust and it's got a couple of other little bits and pieces, but it's a lovely note to it and it's as a manual. It just feels a different car to

the red car, but it's also got some decent suspension on it, some progressive red springs on it.

So it feels really planted on the road, but at the same time feels really zippy and and more fun to drive.

Lovely little short throw gearbox right up like it's just like driving a little baby type R with the the gearbox on the dash and makes all the right sounds.

It's it's going to be a lot of fun.

I think so. Well, as the as the two founding

members of the manual 3 cylinder turbo car club it it, it'll be interesting to to to have a drive at them.

Yes, well, they'll be, they'll be taking, people will be taking numbers. I think so, yeah.

I've just got to have a good driver first myself I think.

Absolutely, I'll show. It to to oh.

I'm going to start the new line where it's just having a ride in it. Oh, OK, OK.

But I'm first in line for that, so just you know well.

It's funny. I mean they're good to have a

ride in. I mean when we took the took the

the first one to Adelaide for the old Japan show, there were four of us in it going out at night for dinner and stuff like that, right? Plenty of room parked anywhere.

Did everything in its stride and I think this one will just do it a bit better. So watch this space Sunday.

I actually there was a couple of car things on and I got the scamp out and took that for a little drive.

So that was really good to get that out in the sun again and it started of course the first time it just went like a little train. My son has swapped it over with

the Integra. We've had another fiddle with

the Integra, which last time I checked in about that wasn't running great, but we've sorted that out.

That was actually a little control unit on the distributor.

So it wasn't the same as Alfred Rowan's CRX that did the distributor that that sort of burnt, burnt it out.

But yeah, we just swapped another distributor onto it and it, yeah, it just drove perfectly.

I think that car probably had a problem with the distributor for quite a while and under 3000 it just didn't seem to want to pull as, as it should have. You'd get to 3000 and it would

pull like like mad. So, but now it's great.

It's just pulled right through all the gears and, and right from, you know, 1000 ribs. So it's, I think that's sort of

that car now. So fingers crossed that'll be.

It's only how a distributor does that.

Like it's the same thing on on the MR2.

It'll just be like really blah, blah, blah.

And then you get up and it'll scream.

But once I got the whole life fixed, I changed the car, completely changed it. Yeah.

And people I think who drive them, and I'm probably guilty of it. You, you don't know because

you've never known any different.

Or it's been like that for so long that you don't realise.

And it's only when it's put right again you go ah.

Yeah, yeah. So I'm thinking incrementally

too. I think they, they, they sort of

deteriorate some sometimes. So yeah, you don't even notice

it that way because you think, you know, you get to a point you realise that actually it did used to be better than this.

But that's how ever since I got it, it's had that hesitation down low but doesn't appear to have it now so.

That's when when I bought my MX5 out of Sydney, you know, I drove down and that it was just not as clean revving as as a couple of others I'd I'd had or driven over the years.

And, you know, again, they all sort of get, you know, used and abused in the same way. And eventually I took it out to

the MX5 factory who are no longer around.

The guy retired. But I said, oh, can you?

Can you? What did I say to him?

I said, I think I think it needs might need pod philtre and an exhaust or you know, I was going down that road of sort of thinking about how do I get this thing revving more cleanly and pulling better because I've driven other ones that are a bit better. And so I'll leave it with me and

it's just a gummed up throttle body, you know, so you cleaned out the throttle body and cleaned the butterfly, whatever.

That just gets gunked up in so many modern cars.

I think with just stop start short runs and all that probably never been done, you know, and it felt like it had a turbo on it. It was unbelievable.

You know, that that drive home in the cool night air.

When I picked it up, I just thought, oh, this is this is amazing. This is a different car really.

And so anyone I tell who's got an NA MX5, I'm like, get the throttle body properly cleaned and adjusted.

Whatever I, I said, you won't regret that very, very cheap fix. And I remember Rowan actually

our friend who mentioned before he, you know, he used to work as a mechanic and a facade, but I think he would clean out a lot of throttle bodies on Saabs. You know, they had gummed up and

then they would just run so much.

Smoothly ones did it too, pretty regularly.

They needed it, yeah. On top of that, when I had that

waggon that I did that myself a few times and yeah, it makes such a difference to them. Yeah, yeah.

There you go. One other thing with Ian one

actually one of the things I was fiddling around with, obviously it's got the Japanese spec head unit in it.

The last, the last image on the on the SAT NAV is the docks at Nagoya where it was loaded onto the ship.

But yeah, everything in Japanese.

And, and my, my youngest son got into it the other night and said, oh, you're going to are you going to get that swapped out or are you going to, you know, convert that to English?

You said, oh, look, I don't think you can.

I think in the the red car, I never could work out how to do it. And I sat for ages trying to

fiddle around with Google Translate on my phone trying to do it. And I said, I think it's the

thing with the K cars, because they're only domestic market only, they don't have that capability to put them into English. She said, Nah, I don't think

that's the case. And he just goes boom, boom,

boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.

That's all in English now. All the all the music's in, all

the images are in English, every, everything, all the awesome. So yeah, that's very cool.

Oh, and the other very cool thing about this that the red one didn't have is it's still got the little little voice telling you to put the ECETC card in.

There's two other little Japanese lady telling me every time I get in the car to put the ETC card in.

Yeah, yeah. How do you say that in Japanese?

ETCSI can't reproduce, I must. Get David Pardo.

Or something, Pardo Yeah, yeah. And but yeah, very lovely young

Japanese lady tells me every time I put the UTC card in.

So which is every Japanese car, you know, whenever you rent a car in Japan that has it. But the and I was thought the N1

would have it the original one, but it didn't.

But this one does. So hopefully get tangled by that

I that's not part of your compliance or roadworthy.

Got a good news text from the lovely Mr. David Prince, the

interior God who has fixed my glove box.

I'm yet to collect it unfortunately.

That's a new one. I like to put that on the side

of my van, shouldn't I? Can I?

The MX5. What's wrong with the glove box?

Well allow me to regaling again. Now, I don't hold this against

Maddie, he does I. Don't.

Know. Yeah, actually, every time you

say. That I don't hold with that into

Maddie, but Oh my God, do you let him know.

Yeah. Basically when we were

installing the new head unit, upon trying to reinsert it, the one part of it which is just a little dub that I guess you know allows it to pivot the other side is a little I guess clip style thing and. Like a sun visor clip sort of

thing. Yeah, it.

Kind of broke off the top. It still hung on, you know,

because of that Japanese plastic reliability.

But being aged, obviously it did crack.

And so it's kind of been hanging on for dear life the entire time. So if I keep the glove box

closed, there's a slight sag, but you know, you can't really tell. It's fine.

But the moment you open up, it just falls.

So I thought, you know, who better to get it fixed by than you know, once again, the interior God, Mr Deb Prince, who's got the best knowledge in fixing, you know, all the little ailments of old cars in their interiors that.

Is true. Let's just wait and see if it

actually doesn't. Doesn't break going back in.

So look. It's it'll probably still be

better than you know what it was.

I'm just going to really, really carefully just get it and never open it again. He'll.

Drive a heat gun onto it just to just to warm everything up and make it a bit bit, yeah. Do a nice and carefully and then

I've been sourcing out some parts just because of the nature of the mechanic. It might be quicker for me to

source the timing kit. I think I'll just go for a Gates

kit with the water pump. They're only about 150 bucks.

They're not bad. Yeah, and that gives me prank

seal Cam seals, so I might need to buy a rocker cover seals again just. Just do your rocker cover gas.

Yeah, because it's coming off anyway, so might as well.

And I think all up with the labour, I'll probably be under $1000 if I source the parts for myself.

So that way I've got the car 100%.

And then, you know, either Ed can come check it out because it's, you know, full roadworthy proof or, you know, I can start, you know, Hocking in on the MX5 lists.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

And then I can see I I've decided on cars that I'd like to look at, but then my mum said, oh, I'd like a car And you know, she's taking priority, which I'm a bit.

Well, no, what I said was, Hey, mum, how about I get you an automatic Mitsubishi Evo 10. And she's like, what kind of car

is that? I'm like, oh, you know, it's,

it's nice. It's a relatively modern, it's a

good automatic and. What's she driving now, Ellen?

Nothing. What happened?

64 Little Suzuki thing. The Suzuki got sold to Nathan,

who's a friend. She's and at the time, you know,

mum really didn't need to drive. So she was, she was 100% OK with

that. But yeah, she eventually planned

on getting a car. Now she's a little more keen on

driving because obviously dad being sick, but she wants a car that she can drive. She she thinks the D Max is a

bit too unruly and she doesn't Dr manuals.

So the STI and the MX5 are out. I thought, you know, Mum, you

could drive a Toyota Crown, you know?

Yeah, they got reversing cameras and everything.

registered as A2 seater only, which is, which is quite funny for, for one of those because it's had had the cage in the back and it's telling me the story behind it.

best versions of some like mundane cars that that you've seen? And why were they so good in, in

Like an Olympic spirit, Camry. Olympic Spirit, Camry.

in particular like special special editions, but like, you know, like obviously, like for example, the the sportsgirl Marina was was never a a hot, a hot thing, but you know, it was still cool, right? And and, you know, and it's

just, but that could we could also talk about like a Cordia GSR, you know, like a you know, that like that was a cool version of that of that, you know, particular mundane car.

Because I could still I could be not going I'll be I'll be in a standard Cordia. And it wasn't great.

Yeah, it wasn't a great thing, but the turbo ones were always kind of wow that that's a turbo. So so yeah, believe it those.

In NSW for one. They did, they did.

There's there's there's a few photos of one on nine of them and like that. But yeah, I wanted to get your

opinion on some good, like some cool versions of interesting of like of mundane cars. It was, I recall the I think

Holden and Suzuki would badge does the same thing.

You know, like the Swift, the Swift GDI, the little little 80s ones, and then they did that into the 90s.

I think they did a GTI Swift. They did they they had two 1.3

Gtis, they had the early 80s one and then they had the.

Rarer one and then the more roundy one, the 81 yeah, those those were such a you know, they were a good little car, but they're a dull, you know, often bought, you know, first car, really low spec, etcetera. So the the high spec ones, the

Gtis are are very rare. In fact, there was one of the

last, I think it was at the last Japanese car show thing at Bandura, and it's done thousand KS, 13 or 30.

I can't. 1313 thousand. KS yeah, I remember there was a

three in it and it was just like wah where do you find that?

Was that the red one? The red one, yeah, is.

It red or was it? Red.

It was red. It was red.

Yeah, yeah, that. I mean that that is a rare,

rare, rare beast. So I mean the second ones, the

swoopy ones, that that was the whole, there's a Holden Barine at GS, I think that was. Yeah, there was.

GGSIGSI maybe? That was the Astra Astra.

OK, maybe it wasn't GS. I think it was a what?

Arena as well. Yeah.

I think that was the the the whole equivalent of the GTI Suzuki, the GS, yeah. Let's have a look.

So they they, I think the GSS were.

I went to uni with the guy that had one of those that, that swoopy one GS thing and he he loved Schumacher.

And so he got the number plate, Shumi SHMI, and he had that on, on that, you know, it's like, yeah.

Where's shoot me today, I wonder?

Shoot me now, I wonder. Now I'm intrigued.

Is it on a car? So the GS wasn't wasn't the GTI,

it was just it was just there like the kind of sportier version that it wasn't it's just stuff version.

But it was still it was still a carbon non, you know, non non twin Cam engine, not twin Cam. OK, so.

We are definitely. The twin Cam was was was was

what was special about a 1300 twin Cam, you know, quite a really little motor in a, in a quite lightweight car.

They went well and they were. They're very sought after, like

for a nice original one these days, very sought after.

Then I think that gave way later to the Ignis Sport didn't.

It did correct, yeah. Shumi is currently on a 2020

Mazda waggon finished in red, so maybe that's the family.

He's got a couple of kids now. Family truck star.

There's a, a good Facebook page. I, I can't even remember the

name of it, but it pops up and they say it always starts off with, you know, it's 1985 and you've, you've middle management, You've got to choose your new company car and it goes through the spec of which car you, you know, which, what your options are. As far as in 85.

You know, you could get a new fancy Magna or you could get a 85 that was still Corona. And then that took about which

spec you choose. Or if you had to choose between

AVC Commodore and an XD Falcon, you know which, what spec would you go 4.2 manual or would you go the 310 pack 5 litre or so

Often I think the best version of mundane cars has really got a lot to do with the spec. You know, it's got a lot to do

with the trim level and the options that you could get.

I mean one sort of 5 speed gearboxes became optional in lots of different things. The first car I my second car I

started off with the district nursing Corolla and then moved up to an 81 KE 55 CS 5 speed, but I had to go to 5 speed because it had the badge that 5 speed was.

Speed on the boot. Yes, on the on the boot lid.

So that made and the Geminis at the time too, they the optional, the 5 speed was optional in the TCS and or TDs I think by then.

And yeah, they also came with the badge that was that was pretty special. Did you?

Ever hear people, David, back in the day saying, Oh no, we don't need that. We've we've made do with four

gears all this time. There's no need.

Why would you have another gear just get too complicated.

That's just did people. Say that, though, Yeah.

Oh. Yeah, they did, yeah.

And often the base model was a four speed and then yeah.

That's right. The top one was the five.

Yeah. Mazda were good at doing that.

They had a lot of four speeds and then the the top top the update 1.432 threes still A4 speed in the in the low

spectrum, but a 5 speed in the Super deluxe.

Super Deluxe, it's. Like driving on a freeway a bit

nicer, doesn't? It it does extra cog Well, what

are some other ones, guys? So actually, before we do that,

David, I want you to think of a few good, good cars with the right spec that you want that you want to talk about.

About rally art. Not as crazy because that had

huge high hopes. That one.

I mean, pretty much had a lot of EVO body kit parts thrown on it.

But I think I was reading that they kind of run out of money so they couldn't do too much to the engine that they really wanted to do. That thing could have been an

absolute rocket ship. Sorry, which rally are you

talking about? The Magna.

Yeah, yes. So the Magna Braley art, that

could have been something fantastic.

It was, they, they gave it a red hot crack that they put an LSD in it in the manual. They, you know, they, it, it

handled quite well. It drove apparently really well.

They, they, you know, they put different cams in it, different tuning, etcetera. And, and it apparently it

buoyed, you know, 6 1/2 seconds to 100.

It's not a slow car. It's still quick by today's

standards really. But here I think they just

didn't have enough money to to to do all the things that they really wanted to do because they placed a supercharger too, from memory. Yeah, I think it was

supercharged. I only think they were planning

to turbocharge that one. I think from yeah, from reading

just turbocharged but. There were a few I think made it

onto the market. They had a Sprintex supercharger

on them. That was the later three 80s

they they did. The three 80s.

And they did TMR which was the supercharged version.

That was around the same time that you had the Orion TI.

He was supercharging and then the 380 came out with the supercharged ones. I missed those times.

That was a great that was a great era for Aussie cars, wasn't it really? It really was.

I think like people say, oh, the pinnacles were the 70s, I think it was the mid 2000s, like the, the Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi, Toyota, we're doing, we're doing amazing things in this country and it is, it is sad that that's gone.

I would also add to, to, to your one with the, with Mitsubishi.

I was going to say the what's called the Galant VR4, the Galant. The Galant was a pretty boring

car. And then they then they came out

all wheel drive, you know, 4G63 turbo rally machine that you know, was really good and you know, did very well.

So it's interesting to to see like for me that like that's if, if I think of a mundane car, I think of a yeah, that's nothing really special. But then the then they came up

with AVR 4 as a posh that did that.

That's something. And then AMG got their hands on

them in a few different parts of the world, which not many.

People. Yeah, they did, yeah.

And then they were really fun. So so you you want a rear AMG by

Mr by Mitsubishi. Yeah, my great.

Aunt had a Ford Escort, late 70s, I wanna say 7778, but that was the yeah, Mark two Escort. That was the gear.

The European formula. Yeah, and it had sporty little

wheels and black vinyl seats. I think it had the little boot

spoiler too, the little rubber boot spoiler on it.

And it always was just a bit. And it was manual, you know, so

it was always a bit a little bit special and it was in in Immaculate condition, you know, it was all two litre, yeah, two litre key. They had no on them.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

And it was that beigey colour, you know, back colour, but Oh no, the beige with the black interior and the wheels.

And it was just quite a it was a top spec model.

were all doing it at the time. I found it weird because like

especially like when you see like a Delica this and they're jacked up on these mud muddy wheels and you see them go around corners, they look like they're quite literally going to tip and. A tip over?

Yep. They're not made for it, but you

know, you know, got got got me 4 wheel drive.

It's yeah. They they really are very top

heavy. I, I don't think I could, I

could do that. Like it's they, they quite

literally every time I see what I'm, I'm like, you are driving.

You are one windstorm away from tipping over Like, like that, that is. Light deep away from being on

your side. Yeah, Speaking of the four wheel

drives, Pajero the evolution. Not Pajero either.

One, Yeah, yes. Claim Jane the rally champion.

There's people like, oh that, that's actually a very cool colour. That's a great one.

What about you, Alan? The first one's a relatively

simplistic 1, the TRD Orion. You know, you go from basic dad

car to, you know, the sporty dad car.

Yeah, fast dad car where like, you know, you still have to be a responsible family man, but, you know, you do want to have some fun. And they pumped out about 240

something kilowatts. 241, I think it was, yeah.

Which you know to the front wheel is not the best idea, but you know the cars the cars still command respect these days and a good amount of money. I think the cheapest one is 20

something thousand on on car sales so.

Bought that one for 12. Yeah, bought that one for 12.

They're they're pretty sick cars.

The other one I'll give. I need to, you know, presuppose

this with technically the Civic isn't a mundane car, but it it, you know, the base Civic, realistically, you know, it was very much a average car. And that's why the third

generation, which also included the Civic shuttle or Wagger.

Yeah, the Wagger van. That's a cool car.

That's a cool. Car they came with, you know,

well, Alan didn't because, you know, we were cheap, but they came with an old drive system. Yeah, yeah.

So you, you had something that was definitely a tier above, you know, East End of Civic Plus. It was, you know, the whole

waggon, you know, you had that storage space.

You could go places, you know, I don't think it had extra seats, but you could at least throw stuff in there.

Like a waggon for me makes anything cooler and then waggon with a wheel drive makes it just like the perfect car.

It's a place to go. It's a car to go any place.

Yeah. And you know, it's a shame

again, because we didn't have the, the one with the, the old drive. But you know, I have to think

we, we, we had the spirit we had.

The spirit of it, absolutely we did.

Get the in the 4th Gen civics. We did get the four wheel drive

waggon here, you know not many of them, but they're quite expensive. But the RTX was for the had the

real time. I remember those.

Yeah, they were cool. They were cool.

I don't think I've ever seen one.

There was one. No you weren't at Phillip

Island. The few people in the car club

had them and one guy still got one but he often at classic Japan. It's a white one.

They had a weird spec for Australia for some reason.

They all came with a sunroof and but no power steering and a 5 speed gearbox with an extra low first gear as well.

So like a like an actual position across the nut for extra low or real low or something for like a crawler gear. So yeah, what could that's only

a spare parts nightmare, isn't it?

Trying to find its. Yeah, I'd like to get a new

gearbox for a. Civic RTX or what?

Yeah, that often. The power steering was an easy

fix because everything bolted on just from a sedan or a hatch and you could just and I think by the time that there were three in the club they all had power steering fitted to.

Were they? Were they US built?

I know Japanese. Built Japanese, Built.

OK, Speaking of Speaking of waggons, you know the the SG generation of the Forester, they had an STI version.

I mean, I don't know why they'd have an STI version, but they had an STI Forester, which are a few getting in the country now.

And you know, especially in World Rally Blue with the gold wheels, they look pretty awesome.

Bimbo brakes behind them and stuff.

I'm like, that is a cool car, that is.

There is also just a little bit of goofiness to it absolutely, because when you, when you add the colour combination and then you know, the gold rooms and everything else, you're like, it's like somebody's like stretched out.

yeah, but still definitely something I'd rock.

Absolutely 6 speed manual, you'd be the ultimate lesbian soccer mom in one of those and it is it's you know, two more lesbian soccer moms represent that is a car that that I would totally get behind. That's a a very cool car.

Speaking of that, Matthew, at Highball Cars and Coffee on Sunday morning, I'm not sure if you saw the Forester that was in attendance with the plates LSBIAN.

there was something there was something really special about a very mundane AU Falcon considering the AU one Forte waterfall grille looked like Bambi on stilts because the the the tyres were so indented and it just didn't look right with the hubcaps and ATS 50 looked like ATS 50.

It was pretty special. That was a pretty special car.

So that's a grey one, Scotty. Yeah, I think they they nailed

it. Like even the looks like people

might not like the headlights, but the headlights still look the same. But for some reason it looked

right. Yeah, yeah.

I think that's, yeah, something special from Ford.

Even some just Fords like the Ford Fairmont gear, the upmarkets kind of throw that in there, it's a little bit special. Considering it's.

Too many of the gears kicking around.

Considering what they what they were based on.

You know what it was based on and what it pretty much looks like on the outside. But everything you get on the

inside is where it really counted because like.

They kept pushing there. There was no glass ceiling for

spec. Like you had the Falcon, then

you had the as well, and then all the Fairmont is a bit better than the. Hang on, hang on.

There's another one. There's another one, yeah.

It's funny you say that though, because most Bas and all those Falcons, they sold XTS or Glis and stuff and the people that bought like Fairmont gears were usually like retiring people, like really old, old men and women.

That bottom was their last car and they looked after them.

And every time you go, like, you know, and then you still see them drive around and their old Fairmont gear because it was a, you know, top spec of, of what, of what they could get.

And there's something to be said about that.

Like, I don't think there's any cars these days that you could say, Oh yeah, it's my last car, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna buy a top spec, you know, Mercedes for $400,000 that, you know, these were attainable kind of cars. And, you know, and they always

had, they were quite nice, you know, they were it.

Was like cruising in your lounge room.

Correct. Yeah.

Yeah, exactly right. They're just all the bumps, very

comfortable seats. You're right Matthew, with the

the top spec, but you also got people buying the bottom spec too as their laugh, you know, So you don't tend to get in the middle. You tend to get they're really

splashed out or they just scrape the barrel to get that brand new car and had to go base. Well, you could do David Prince

and always buy the mid spec because that's the that's the that's the perfect spec you. Always.

Are you a mid spec buyer, David? Oh, I.

Tend. To build the last few few cars I

have new bought new I've I've bought min spec just because there's a there is a point in the range where where you get I think that. The sweet spot?

The sweet spot? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

But for what you're paying compared to what?

You're getting yeah, sometimes they do go silly in top spec like it's, it's, it's a it's and the things you're getting you just go no like. Well, you know, you know how

much I love a sunroof and I, I think when we bought the CRV we, you know, you could get a panoramic roof in those and, and, but it was another 10 grand over the one because it also came in. Because it comes with everything

else. It comes with seven seats and

four wheel drive a little. I didn't want all that, I just

wanted. All the things you don't need,

yeah. So it wasn't worth 10 grand for

a sunroof, but yeah. So no, there's definitely a

sweet spot. I've got a jigsaw machine.

We can. We can cut one if you'd like.

And then didn't it change with Ford that changed to the like the G6ES or something? GC Yes.

Correct. And then FPV launched their

sporty versions of the typhoons and stuff in the comfortable.

Yep, F6. EF6E or.

GT, ES and stuff. And the 464.

They'll virtually firm on gear interior with yeah just all F6 running gear which. Is I was looking at those at one

tip of the week. Golf tip of the week when you're

playing around close to the greens because look, let's be honest, it's not many times you're going to hit the green in regulation unless you're fantastic, which I'm not.

You're always going to land it. You're always going to land it

short and things like that. So look, don't go for your huge

lofted wedges to chip it onto the green.

If you're up close, go for like a 7 or 8 iron and just a little punch just to get over that deeper grass and get it close to the pin. Better than getting your lofted

wedge where you're either going to just top it and it's going to go a mile or you're kind of just, it's going to move about 5 centimetres in front of you. Because if it's a little bit too

thick on the fringe, you can't really put it, it'll get a bit stuck. So you might just a little nice

punch with seven or eight iron and just try and get as close as you can. And you're pretty much swinging

it like a putter too. So you're holding it down lower

with your 7 or 8 iron and just a little like you're putting a little punch and off it goes. So no Happy Gilmore style.

Not if you want to hit it to the next hole.
