Whether you're looking to drop hints to your partner or indulge in a little self-gifting, this episode is packed with unique Porsche-themed ideas to enhance your automotive lifestyle.
Tis the season to buy Porsche stuff and feel good about it.
In this Rennthusiast Radio holiday episode, Will and Derek break down your Porsche Christmas list into two clear buckets: Porsche gifts you want your significant other to buy, and Porsche upgrades you should unapologetically buy for yourself. Using real numbers and real experiences, they walk through everything from cheap stocking stuffers to serious driver-focused mods, all with a hard cap around that $1,500 mark.
If you are a Porsche owner, dreamer, or you share a house with one, this episode gives you concrete gift ideas at different budgets and explains why they matter in the real world. It is also permission to treat yourself, backed by two serial Porsche owners who have tried most of this stuff the hard way.
If you want your partner to “accidentally” get the hint, play this episode in the car and let Will and Derek do the talking for you. And if you are the Porsche person in the relationship, use this as your checklist before you buy anything else for the garage.

ends January 2nd. Welcome to Renthusiast Radio, the podcast where Will and Derek navigate the
winding roads of Porsche Obsession, exploring the good and the bad of Porsche ownership.
Grab your favorite beverage, pull up a chair and join us Renthusiast Radio because life's too
short not to talk about Porsches. Welcome to Renthusiast Radio. I'm Will and I'm Derek.
In Tis the Season, we are once again back in our holiday episode season and the good news about
this time of year, Derek, is that unlike the rest of the year, we can ask our significant others
for cool Porsche stuff. And we can also buy ourselves cool Porsche stuff with little to no
guilt because it makes total sense. It's gift giving and gift receiving season.
I thought you were going to say that we have full availability to show that we're
by humbugs around this time of year where we have to try to hide it a little bit the rest of the
year. That's right, dude. Yeah, man. So it's time to spend some money mentally speaking here. So
in today's episode, Derek, we're going to be talking about,
and you broke down the budget range. So I'll let you get into this in a minute. But
we're talking about what good Porsche gifts should we ask our significant others for,
and then what good Porsche gifts should we give ourselves permission to buy for ourselves
for Christmas. And you know what? Yes, it's the holidays. Yes, we should be inclusive,
but I celebrate Christmas. So let us just use that word interchangeably.
And that's what we're going to do. And for all of you out there listening to this,
that want to get these ideas to a significant other, maybe auspiciously play this in the
background as you guys are walking around the house. Maybe you get in the car and you're like,
oh, that's weird. This is playing. Maybe we should just listen to it. You'd really like
Will and Derek. They're pretty smart guys. Just let it play and let us do the work for you out there.
I mean, not only is that brilliant, but it's also like you're getting really sneaky at promoting
this podcast and getting people to share it with other people. I work on so many levels,
Will. It's true. All right, man, enough of this banter. Why don't we get into the meat
here? Let's do just that. So let's cover what we'd love for our significant others to
get us for Christmas. Maybe some gift ideas. A lot of people have reached out and said,
hey, can you guys recommend anything fun that Porsche related that we could either give for
Christmas to people that have the cars or that we'd like to receive? And so I thought it might
be kind of fun, Will, to come up with a couple ideas, maybe things that we've tested
that are fairly inexpensive to mildly inexpensive, to mildly expensive. So I probably
have a couple ideas for like 50 bucks, maybe 150 bucks, up to maybe 1000 bucks. It depends on how
much your significant other loves you on that upper end. So I'm going to kick it off if that's
all right. These are things that I actually... Hold on, Will. You're equating the amount
of love to the amount of money they can spend on Porsche stuff. I am just leaving it out there for
people to make those connections themselves, significant others sitting in the car. If you
really love the person who's driving or sitting in the passenger seat, the more money you spend
Porsche related, the more you love them. That is very true. Love it. These are some things
that I think are cool. I'm going to start off, and this is going to sound super generic,
but stay with me here because we're going to get to the actual gift. But if you are looking,
maybe you don't know someone very well, but they just got a new car,
the whole key chain thing is so overdone, right? Like, oh, get them a Porsche key chain.
Done is so boring. However, you can get one for like five bucks off of Amazon or eBay, right?
So if you want to gift someone and put it in the mail, all right, that's fine. If you
want to go to Porsche and spend 50-something dollars on a key chain, you can get some cool
ones this year. I'm going to hold this up to the camera and describe it to people listening.
I don't know if you can see that well. So I have that on my 72911. It's kind of the
turbo. I don't know what you'd call it. What would you call that? Like a Papita
turbo with blue and black? Houndstooth, Papita. I'm not sure which one is absolutely
correct because I've heard. So they've come up with some cool ones, especially as they're leaning
into this turbo heritage thing and, you know, something to consider. They are pricey for what
amounts to a silly key chain for 50 or 55 bucks. However, here is what I actually would seriously
recommend. So what I really hate is when you put your key into the left side of the steering
wheel and you have your keys that are hanging down and they're jangling as you're driving,
they're bumping into like a headlight switch or they're banging against your knee,
scratching your dashboard. And so I found this. I've had a lot of people that have commented
on this. Have you ever seen one of these, Will? I have not, but it looks pretty brilliant.
Yeah. So what I'm holding up for the audio audience is it's almost like a leather pouch,
except it's not. You put all your keys on like an axle and they kind of spin.
And so you can pull a key out, put it into the ignition. You can pull your house key out,
put it into your lock. But when you're not using them, they kind of all slide back
into this little case. And the case is soft. It doesn't scratch anything. And most of all,
it's really clean. You don't have things jangling around. I believe the company
Orbit key, you buy these pouches where they hold all your keys. I have a USB drive in there.
It keeps it real clean. It's like 50 bucks. And it's an awesome gift for people that are drivers
that just hate like a big collection of keys banging around. So Will, what do you have to
combat that low end of the price range, significant other gift? What would you
love to make a suggestion for? Well, I mean, I could give you something
on the super lane like a $50 Pelican parts gift card, but I've got something that would cost them
nothing. And it would be huge. Maybe the best gift one could receive. Is this like a box of love
or something like that? Better. It is a hall pass to go buy another Porsche. No grief.
No bullshit given. A smile encouragement. In fact, interest in the search. Hey,
so what do you think? What's the latest update on your car search? You want to show me some pictures?
Yeah. Why don't we sit down tonight and watch some walk around video footage of the car that you're
interested in? That's what I'm talking about. Wouldn't cost the significant other anything?
You know what? I'm not going to call that suggestion a cop out. I am going to call
that suggestion. It's freaking brilliant. That's priceless. No, you know,
can I be honest with you? God damn it. That is an awesome idea because there is
nothing I love more than when my beautiful wife feigns any interest in terms of my search and
what I'm looking at. It makes me so happy. Yeah, dude, that's so much better than my gift idea.
And it's free. And we're not talking about like feigned interest here. We're talking about
outright support, vocal support. You need to go get a new one. Yeah, that's right.
Significant other. You really have to sell it. You really have to like be on board. Oh,
yeah. You just got to hear it. What's this going to mean? Are you not going to be able
to pay tuition this year? There's that. Okay. And I mean, I'll jump ahead to my second gift.
Go to number two. It's associated. So we saved all our money on gift number one, right? So that
it's nothing but a gesture of love that costs nothing. Yes.
Then you said, what's the upper end? A thousand bucks? Sure. Okay. So then,
sorry. Then the whole audience has to know, of course, that we haven't gone over these
together. So this is as much of a surprise to me as it is to everyone else.
Then the Significant Other kicks down a thousand bucks towards transport on the car that...
They pay for the shipper?
How do you like that?
I think that you're winning this contest because it makes my number two look really dumb.
That is a much better idea. What can I say? Sorry.
I mean, it is a Porsche podcast and this is 100% really pushing towards Porsche ownership. So
those really are good gift ideas. Oh man, I'm sorry. That actually really caught me off guard.
I thought that was funny. All right. Well, all right. Fair. Fair. I'm going to have a mediocre
second gift, but I'll be honest. This is a gift I use every single day. It's a gift both my
wife and I use every single day. And I believe that actually you're on board because I've seen
you rock in these as well. These Porsche coffee cups. So folks, if you head to your Porsche dealer or
you can order them online, Porsche has this collection of coffee cups. They have holiday
editions, but they also have a number of just like cool styles from old livery. They have a
lot of like tartan and papita mugs. This is my Christmas mug. I believe that is a Dakar on there.
So anyone who wants to get me, maybe it's a GT3. How much does one cost? That's a GT3.
How much is it? They're 50 bucks. 45 bucks. Okay. $45. Mine cost $132,000 because
it was a throw in when I bought my Carrera T. Ah, there you go. Well, I think that is one
way to go and in the spirit of getting your significant other to buy off on that, you can
certainly encompass that. But if you look over my shoulder to my elf on the shelf behind me,
I don't know if people can, can you see that, Will? I think I can see like the edge of it.
What have you there? Well, he's hugging a Porsche mug that came from the Porsche dealership.
And I think it's like if you were to buy like a regular mug, I think it's like
eight ounces or 10 ounces. It's probably very German because they're like,
well, that's all the coffee you need. You do not need, you know, 16 ounces or 20 ounces of coffee.
Well, I'm sorry, but I think that's cute. But when you are up at four in the morning and putting
in long days, you need what amounts to a trough of coffee. And what I love about these the most,
you can tell I use this this morning. I think they're probably 16 ounces, maybe they're
20 ounce. They're huge coffee cups. And so for the coffee holics who like to kill an entire
coffee carafe every morning, they are absolutely huge. That is my second gift, 50 bucks.
I make like eight cups on my coffee maker. That's what it measures. And it's two of those that
you just showed me. So that gives you a sense. It's not for people that are sensitive to caffeine.
I love them. And the other nice thing is it is something you can kind of collect. I've slowly
emptied my cabinets of all other coffee cups. And now it's just these that I've collected
over the years. And it feeds my addiction. So for 50 bucks, I think it's pretty good.
So Will, I am super curious. What is your third gift a significant other
might think about gifting you as a gift idea?
See, I would argue that the first two gifts that I shared were like,
awesome. They were not cop outs. So this one's a cop out,
a Pelican parts gift card.
I mean, I guess if I'd have sat down really, really given this,
I could come up with something else clever, but you know, why not?
Well, I mean, they really does speak to what you need for your car. So if your significant
other is like many, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, you just gave me an idea. I'm sorry.
So you said a thousand bucks on the upper end. How about a thousand dollar gift certificate
to your local factory Porsche dealer service department because your ass is going to go there
and spend some money. Yeah, for sure. Or your independent dealer if they do gift cards as well.
I know my detailer locally has his sale Black Friday where you can get gift cards as well.
So that is a good idea, especially if you have a significant other that doesn't
understand the intricacies of your car or what it really needs or what your ideas are of
changing your car over to make it more yours. I mean, a gift card makes a lot of sense.
All right. Well, I'm going to counter with it's probably along the lines of a gift card,
but it's something I have a lot of experience with and I feel really strongly about is
a lot of folks own cars and they say, I'd love to drive my car at the limit.
I drive it on roads, but I want to see what it can do. It's a Porsche for God's sakes.
I want to know what the limits are. And so one of the best things that I've done for
myself and it's actually, this was a gift my wife got me last year was to get me a
time at a track where you have some instruction. They range anywhere from 300 bucks to 700 bucks
for just like a regular track where you can get someone to ride right seat and tell you with your
car how to drive it at speed, which is such an amazing experience to see what these cars can
really do. I'll up it even more if your significant other really loves you as they're listening in the
car. The Porsche Experience Center, there's a few of them across the country. And essentially,
just think of it as like a Porsche dealer with a race track out back where you can get,
take delivery of a car, but you can go there and for somewhere between like maybe 750 up,
you can get 90 minutes to a full day in whatever Porsche you want. And you can get what they call a
Porsche Experience. So I've done mid-engined versus rear-engined, Cayman versus 911. I've done the GT3
Experience. And so I don't have a GT3 in my future most likely. That's probably not something I'm
going to own, nor do I maybe do I really want to for the kind of driving I do. But to beat
the crap out of one of those for an hour and a half on the track, I think I mentioned this
in the podcast probably a couple of months ago doing a lead follow. The instructor was in a turbo
S in front of me. I was in a GT3. And I was driving as hard as I could for an hour and a half,
which was an experience like completely blows your mind. So for 800 or 1000 bucks,
I think that is an unbelievable gift. Hey, Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. You know,
one of the perks about having four kids that you know about is actually getting a direct
line to the big man up north. And this year, he wants you to know the best gift that you can
give someone is the gift of Mint Mobile's unlimited wireless for $15 a month. Now you
don't even need to wrap it. Give it a try at mintmobile.com slash switch. Upfront payment of
$45 for three months plan equivalent to $15 per month required. New customer offer for
first three months only. Speed slow after 35 gigabytes if network's busy. Taxes and fees
extra. See mintmobile.com. Ever find yourself bored or trying to kill time? We have finally
found a solution for you. Royal match. Don't believe me? Let's hear what people say. Royal
match is such a fun puzzle game. There are over 10,000 levels, also a bunch of mini games,
which makes it super exciting. My favorite part. It doesn't need Wi-Fi. I play on my commute,
on flights, even while waiting in line. And honestly, no ads, not a single one. That's
why I'm so into it. So there you have it, a relaxing, challenging, totally ad free game
that goes wherever you go. Download royal match and see why everyone loves it.
Yeah. I mean, that sounds like it's going to go a long way. I've always wanted to do one of those.
I did an on-road driving experience in GT3, GT3 RS and GT4 a few years back. I've never
been on track in a Porsche. It's a cool experience. I mean, when it's someone else's
car, it's even better. Just make sure you pick up the extra insurance just in case.
But for a flight in Atlanta in LA, you can get a flight for cheap on off times. You go on a Tuesday
morning at 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock. The track's practically yours. And then you get to walk around
through the Porsche gift shop. You get to walk around. They all have restaurants. You can eat
at a Porsche restaurant. It's a great experience. It's like Disneyland for Porsche addicts. So
I think that's a great gift, significant other. And you should really consider it for all my
friends out there. All right, man. You want to jump into the selfish segment?
Okay, Will. Let's start talking about the real gifts we can give ourselves for Christmas
or for this holiday season because no one knows what you want like you. And I think I am extremely
hard to buy for around the holidays because I just tend to buy what I want throughout the year
and my wife gets really frustrated. No one knows what to buy me because,
I mean, frankly, if I want something, I'll just go get it. But
this is speaking to those people out there because you have the holidays and you have
an excuse to treat yourself. You have an excuse from Will and Derek. I'm going to start really
cheap. And this is a 1500 cap though, right? What's that range again? Yeah. So I started as
low as I think I have down here probably like, I don't know, 30, 50 bucks to 150. And then
probably around 800 bucks and then 1500 bucks. So 1500 cap. What can you buy for 1500 dollars
for a Porsche, right? That's a pretty low cap in this world of mods. You struggle with that a
little bit. But we talked about this a couple weeks ago and I wanted to bring this back up.
What is one thing that directly affects how much you enjoy your car? And that's shifting,
right? And unless you have a brand new car, there's a solid chance that your car isn't
shifting like it should. So you can pick yourself up a shifting busher kit for like a bushing kit for
like 35 bucks. And you have it delivered with your Pelican parts gift card and you change that out
on a weekend and your car shifts completely different and you have a brand new car.
So I'm going to combine that with two other things to take this to like a $300 gift
that you deserve to give yourself with your gift card. So you've changed the shifter bushings.
Now I want you to go out and get yourself a nice Burlwood or Beechwood 917 type shifter knob.
You can have the shifter pattern put on top. You can get them on eBay. I think there's
like a guy in, I can't remember if it's in Texas or Florida. There's like a famous guy who
did, oh no, no, it's in Mexico. You send them your specs and they'll send you this
gorgeous knob. I've been chasing him around to get one from my 997. I think we can't get a response
actually. You know who I'm talking about. He's in Mexico, right? My mechanic Aaron has been trying
to chase him down for me because he ordered one from him. And anyway, yeah, I know who the guy
is though. I mean, maybe he's heard back anyway, just ignore what I just said. But
anyway, I'm aware of the guy and I think he does really good work because I've seen it
firsthand. Yeah, he's big. He's big on run list and on a lot of the forums he's spoken
very highly of. I did this on my 1972 9-11 and it completely transformed from the original
plastic shifter knob to this beautiful wooden knob that is warm in your hand. It's a little bit
larger. You can even sometimes get them weighted. And then if you really want to go nuts to
take yourself to kind of that maybe 350-400 range is consider a short shift kit. Depending
on the car, it might make a lot of sense. That's not for every car, but something to
consider. What do you think about that? Well, I think those are all very solid moves. I think
it's table stakes for anybody who's really into their car. I mean, something you got to do.
You know what I think is cool? Have you seen on the PDK cars that have the little
Braun razor shifter knob that you can change that out for the GT3 style shifter knob? And it looks like
a manual shifter knob, but it just kind of goes back and forth into the drive modes. Have you
seen this? I have seen it. Yeah. I think that's really cool because I think... I mean, if I
had a PDK car... I find it confusing. What are we trying to be here? Is it a man or a woman?
It's confusing you? It's confusing. Is it PDK or is it manual? Is it a man or a woman?
I think it's a nice look for the car. And if you can make it look a little bit more solid,
again, when I drive... I don't know if you do this, but with your Macan
GTS, which is a PDK, do you drive with your hand on the shifter, even though it's automatic,
or do you have both hands on the steering wheel? I mean, I'll rest my hand on the shifter.
I got my elbow on the arm rest kind of propped up on it.
Okay. I always have my hand on... If it's... I was test driving lately for a video...
What was it? Two PDK cars, a 991.1 and a 991.2, both in PDK, back to back.
And I found myself with my hand on the shifter and I had to stop myself from like
trying to manually shift, even though I know you can technically with the forward and back
nonsense. But it's just where I was put my hand. So if you can change that out for
something that feels like a shifter, I think that's cool. Yeah. All right, man. Go.
What else? You want mine? Yeah. Give me your first. I'm gonna come at this a little bit
differently. Part of my enjoyment of my cars involves my garage. So I think about garage
art, Porsche garage art, or one or two cabinets. I don't know how far 1500 will take you now,
but upgraded lighting or HVAC, I don't think it's going to cover a whole lot of your HVAC,
but I know my garage is heated and cooled. I had the floor done. I've had it painted.
I've got high-end lighting in there. I mean, if you're going to have a toy or toys,
you should have a toy box to hold those toys that you can really enjoy and hang out in. And so
I would say that throwing $1,500 at your garage in one of those areas might help you enjoy your
cars better. You know what I would suggest with that? I have this in my garage and I use
it all the time, which I love is have a plumber come in and put in a hot and cold water
spigot in your garage so that you can run something right from your garage. You pull your car out a
little bit. Or I mean, God, if you design your garage and have some sort of draining system in
the floor, that's even better. But I don't have that. You got to do that right out of the gate.
Like when you're building the house, you got to think that through. I would imagine it's pretty
freaking dramatic surgery to do it after the fact. Yeah. I always wonder if you have that,
that's going to clog at some point. Like how do you clean out a drain under your garage?
That's got to be a pain in the butt. Here's something else you could do. I have a two and a
half horsepower maybe. I don't have a pressure washer mounted on my garage wall, 75 foot hose.
I have the spigot inside of the garage. There's a hose that snakes up to the pressure
washer, blah, blah, blah. But I can pull that hose and furl it out into the driveway.
And so I have a pressure washer and it hangs neatly on the wall when I'm not using it.
So I bet you money. I can't remember how much I paid, but it's less than $1,500.
You got to pay the plumber to come in though. Yeah, but it's just so nice to have it right there
because the pressure washer car is next level. And it's, I have an electric one for that reason
that I have to set up every time. But what a pain in the neck. But yeah, you know,
the other thing too, have you seen those for, I think they're like, they're expensive. They're
like 600 bucks, but the, they look like vacuums, but they're really like high,
high force blowers to dry your car. And you can mount those on the wall too. But
if you, because I have hard water where I live and then there's spots everywhere.
Same here. Same here. It sucks.
Yeah. And so if you're going to wash your car and let, you know, unless it's like the evening,
you have to dry it immediately or else you're screwed. So those are pretty good too.
It was last summer, just real quick stupid story, but I had my 991 parked out in front
of my house on the street and my sprinklers ran. This was in the summertime and they were
timed incorrectly. The company that did it made a mistake and they, anyway, sprayed nice,
you know, irrigation worthy water on the car in the hot sun. And so the, the water immediately
evaporated and I've got, I mean, I've got mineral deposits on the car. I'm going to have to deal
with it. I think that's a paint correction.
Like you wouldn't think so, right? You'd think, Oh, it's just mineral deposits. I'll
just give it a good wash and they'll come off. They don't.
No, man. I mean, you, you can help, you know, you can help it, but you still have
those, you keep the outer circles. You can see it. It sucks.
Yeah. It's huge, man. I was, I was not happy when I found that. It's like,
this is a driver and all, but it's black paint and now it just looks terrible.
I wonder if you had it ceramic coated if that would come off easier. I don't know the answer
to that. You know me. I think that's voodoo, but I, I mean, it would be great.
It's a good, why don't we test it on your car?
All right. I'll get right on that. I'm going to have to, I have to reapply my
ceramic coating because of driving with you. I've taken all the paint off the front of my car.
So I got to redo everything.
You know what? You're welcome. Patina gives you street cred.
That's right. I'm badass. All right. Moving on to my second gift to give yourself. And this
is an absolutely one of my favorite gifts to give yourself. And that's a new exhaust.
Now you're like, oh, Derek, a new exhaust is like $2,500, $4,000. This is,
this is where I'm going to bring up my buddy, Darren Fister. And I'm going to say that you can get
an exhaust, your exhaust that you take off your car and he modifies and sends back to you for
under $1,000. I think it's like $650 to like $900 or something like that.
And it completely changes your car. Two other videos I have coming out.
I did a base 986 Boxster and I did a base 99911. And the Boxster was so quiet. I had to keep looking
at the tack because it was so smooth that you really had such a hard time knowing when you're
ringing it out on back roads because it was such a smooth motor. The 99911 had a Gundo hack,
which is what Darren Fister does. He changes the internals of your exhaust,
re-pipes them. I was blown away. I mean, for what that motor was for a base car,
it was so engaging. And I don't think I would have enjoyed driving it as much
if it hadn't been for that awesome sound from the Fister exhaust.
Hey, Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. You know, one of the perks about having four kids

So I would absolutely say, and again, I'm not sponsored by Darren. I just think he does a great
job and he was on our podcast and he's just a really cool human being. So I'd love to support
him anyways, but like he just does good work and an exhaust is everything. And if you can get
one for under a thousand bucks and he covers a lot of cars now, I would 100% be tough to him.
Agreed. Seeing that man's praise. He's a good dude. He's one of the best in the community.
Yeah. Yeah. He doesn't want, he doesn't ask for anything. He's just, he's just happy just being
a dude. And so I appreciate that. And he does really good work. And you have a bunch on your
cars. I've had a bunch on my cars. They, they just work and they sound great. Actually,
they sound better as you use them. They like bed in and the sound gets deeper over time,
right? Yep. So all right, what do you have, Will, for gifts for yourself? This is a gift that,
you know, if you, I'm going to make it up. They're like out of the 50 states, I think that this gift
would work in 48 of them. Radar detector. Yes. Yes. Sorry to promote the idea of breaking
the law, but take it from somebody who has radar detectors coming out of his ears.
You want one. I think, you know, I know that they're illegal in Virginia. I happen to know that
because I've always had to turn mine off when I go up there. But I mean, I imagine there are other
states in the United States where they're illegal, but I think they're largely legal. So anyway,
I'm not an expert there. I'm sure you can look that up, but I will say this, get yourself one.
Do you have to turn it off or do you literally have to like take it, take it down
and put it? I've often wondered about that. Like, can you have it in the car as long as
it's not working? I've always wondered that myself. I have, you know, I used to be like, I would
take it off the windshield and I would remove the suction cup and hide it all under the seat.
Now I just unplug it. I don't know. The question really is, is it contraband or is to use it
illegal? So I don't know, man. I leave it hanging. I have a blend mount on a couple of
my cars that hangs it up under the mirror. I mean, I leave the unit there and I just
unplug it and I've had no trouble. I imagine, I mean, God, I mean, they're shooting at you
if they don't detect the signal. I mean, they're just going to let you go, you know.
Yep. Yeah, with their radar detector detector. Yeah.
Yeah. Well, I'm sure there's some very knowledgeable listener that can let us know in the comments,
the differentiation between that. But do you have a favorite radar detector?
I do. I have tried a lot of the Escorts. I've never done the Valentine one,
but my favorite currently is the Uniden R7. It really is still those three,
those have been like the three different brands forever. Yeah.
I have a bunch of friends that run the Valentine's and they are absolutely like smitten over them
because I would do it. I mean, I think they're probably all the same. Man, be honest with you.
Yeah. I definitely get like, maybe your Uniden does it too, but I mean, the big thing right
forever with the Valentine was that you could tell if it was behind you or in front of you
or on the sides. The Uniden has that. I mean, really, what you want to do is you want to make
sure it's one that I think the cheaper ones still have all that false alarm stuff, which is so annoying.
Yeah. So you're driving around town and it's chirping because some, you know, it's a,
you know, drugstore has one of those doors that you can walk up and it automatically opens.
I think that might use K-Band or something that will trigger some of the cheaper radar
detectors. So you want to get one that doesn't have all this false alarm stuff. It will
drive you nuts. Yeah, especially on the roads now because everyone has radar cruise control.
Which makes it go haywire. So worth the money. I am a big fan of Waze. I don't usually run a radar
detector, but it's one of those things where I don't know why I spend money on such stupid crap.
I really do. Get a ticket and say how much it costs you. Right.
No, yeah. No, I'm not arguing with you at all. It's just like one of those things where it's
like, I'm going to gift myself one of those this Christmas. But what I want to gift myself
first is my third idea. And this is going to sound so boring. This is not a sexy Christmas gift to
yourself, but it's possibly one of the best gifts you can give yourself for your car.
That's four new tires in an alignment. We let these cars sit a lot, even if we claim their
drivers, unless they're our daily drivers, they sit a lot. And so it's really easy that if you
get a set of tires, two, three, four, five years goes by. The tread still looks great. Six years goes
by. The tread still looks great. And we don't understand that the tires have gotten really
hard. The rubber compounds have gotten really hard. Maybe there's no cracking, but from a
performance standpoint, the flexibility of the tires in the grip level have really gone down.
And so I'm a huge fan of Michelin. I don't like the Pirellis at all. I've had a lot of
Pirellis that have come with my cars. I'm sorry, Pirelli. But the Michelin, just the way to go.
Yeah, dude. The Pirellis are trash. I would say I just shot a bunch of video on my 997
talking through. I put a lot of money into it. I've modded it. It's great. But one thing
that's a weak link is the tires. It's the stupid Pirelli P-Zeros. And frankly, I would
say they are borderline dangerous in the cold and the damp. End of story. Sorry. Cup two is the same
way. They just don't ride well either. I just find that they don't ride well. And the Michelin
pilots are just great tires. Even the all seasons, the A- or the A-S are awesome tires. So
huge fan of Michelin's. So get yourself four tires. But if you take your car to
someone that knows Porsches and no Porsches setup, and you can speak to this well because
you're really big on this, they can set up your alignment any number of ways. They can corner
balance your car. They can make your car handle like it did out of the factory, or they can change
the characteristics to make it a little bit sportier by changing the orientation of the alignment.
Might wear the tires a little bit more quickly. But if you do want to do any track work,
or you just want to do some advanced maybe high performance driving on the street,
an alignment makes all the difference in the world. And that's usually maybe two,
300 bucks on top of a set of tires. And so I think an alignment outside of just from a
longevity standpoint of making your tires work longer, or last longer I should say,
they can really change the performance envelope of them. And so I think that that package,
well not sexy at all, no one wants to spend money on tires. It's like buying a water heater.
It's like, oh, my water heater went in my house, my boiler went. You got to buy one.
But if you do get a new set of tires, you'll notice immediately how much better it is.
Yep. I agree with everything you just said.
Oh, looks like I'm on target. That's great. So give me, do you have one more for me?
I do.
Give yourself $1,500 for impulse buys on PCA Classified's
ran list and any other, you know, Classified's form that you hang out on. Because
I don't know about you. If I'm not in the hunt for a car, I'm still looking at these
Classified's and I might come across, oh, I don't know, like a set of wheels or some freaking car
cover that I really don't need and I'll never use, but I just think I need to buy it, you know,
and there's all that kind of stuff that crosses the radar. And so I buy it and feel guilty,
but what if I just set aside money and said, that's what it's for, you know?
Give yourself permission?
Yes.
I spent 400 bucks last summer. I drove three and a half hours.
I had a, it was like an early 90s BMW 5 Series stick and I had it for a minute
and I drove it up to Burlington, Vermont to buy two 911 SC seats to turn into office chairs.
That kind of stuff, man, you know?
Like, that's so dumb. But I was like, how cool would it be to have, you know,
some 80s, 911 chairs in your office? So that's 400 bucks that I wouldn't have spent
unless I permissed myself to get that. Yeah. Yeah.
I get a million of those. I can, any decklid I see online, I'm like, I want to hang that on my
wall. I'm going to go buy that for $700 and then you hang it on my wall.
And then it goes onto the house.
Yeah. The only thing that I did see, which is kind of cool is sometimes when we do these rallies,
you get like the badges you put on your grill, the grill badges. And I'm not a grill
badge guy on my cars, but it would be cool to put them somewhere. So like as a kind of a
moving trophy type of thing, but they're up there. People are constantly putting ducktails
in their cars and getting rid of their decklids. Yep.
Yeah. So anyways, so a couple of good ideas there. And we just finished our second holiday
episode. And so happy holidays to you, my friend. Same to you, my friend. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas. And thank you everyone out there for a fantastic year and the feedback.
Good and bad, depending on what the topics might be. We read it all and we really appreciate it.
