Hour 2 of Car Pro Radio Show runs through new-car highlights, real-world deal talk, and listener Q&A. The hosts spotlight Nissan’s new Pathfinder (V6, 9-speed, up to 8 seats) and discuss lease specials on the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Jerry pushes practical buying guidance: don’t panic trade, prepaid/one-pay leases can make a $10k “used-car budget” work with a new warranty, and paying cash usually doesn’t lower the price. Callers weigh RAV4 vs Hyundai Palisade, keeping a low-mileage Toyota after a spouse’s passing, and whether premium fuel is necessary. The show also covers dealership transparency, Florida license-plate law drama, and Toyota bZ electric confidence.
"The new Nissan Pathfinder, built for big adventures and all that family chaos."
The Nissan Pathfinder is a family SUV made for carrying people and gear. This ad is saying the newest one is built for trips and everyday family life, with more modern features inside.
The Nissan Pathfinder is a midsize SUV known for family hauling and road-trip capability. In this segment, the “new Nissan Pathfinder” is positioned as an adventure-focused option with modern comfort and tech.
"It's powered by a strong V6 engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission."
A V6 is an engine with six cylinders. It’s commonly used in SUVs because it provides plenty of power without being as large or complex as bigger engines.
A V6 engine is a gasoline engine with six cylinders arranged in a “V” shape. It’s often chosen for a balance of power and smoothness, especially in family SUVs that may tow or carry lots of passengers.
This SUV can fit up to eight people. That matters if you often drive with a big family or carpool.
Passenger capacity is a key spec for family SUVs. “8 passengers” indicates a multi-row seating layout designed to maximize how many people can ride together.
"It's also available with 7-passenger seating and 2nd row captain's chairs."
This means the SUV can seat seven people. It’s usually a layout that’s a bit more comfortable and easier to use for getting in and out.
7-passenger seating is a common configuration in midsize SUVs, typically achieved by using a different second-row setup than an 8-passenger layout. It often prioritizes comfort and access to the third row.
"It's also available with 7-passenger seating and 2nd row captain's chairs."
Captain’s chairs are separate seats in the second row, not one big bench. They’re usually more comfortable and make it easier to get to the back seats.
Captain’s chairs are individual seats (usually with armrests) instead of a single bench in the second row. They typically improve comfort and make it easier for passengers to access the third row.
"The Audi A5, which is a beautiful car. And then I had the Alfa Romeo Tenali."
The Audi A5 is a luxury car from Audi. People like it for its styling and comfortable, nicer-than-average feel inside.
The Audi A5 is a compact luxury car (typically offered as a coupe, sportback, and convertible) known for its upscale interior and refined ride. When a host calls it “beautiful,” they’re usually pointing to design and overall presentation as part of the review.
"But afterwards, I was talking to the Stellantis media person. She's going to, she's going to lease one herself."
Stellantis is the large automaker formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA. The host mentions a “Stellantis media person,” tying the lease promotion and model updates to the company’s marketing/incentive efforts.
"And as you'll learn from next week's free weekly newsletter, I give you an update on what's going on with the used car market. And it is still sky high."
This is just the market for used cars—how expensive they are and how easy they are to find. If prices are “sky high,” your current car may be worth more at trade-in, but the next used car will also cost more.
The “used car market” refers to pricing and availability for pre-owned vehicles. When it’s “sky high,” it means used cars are selling for unusually high prices compared with normal history, which affects trade-in values and what you’ll pay for your next car.
"...Safety for the family. Well, we know how good the RAV4 is and we know that it's typically a quarter mill..."
The Toyota RAV4 is a compact SUV that’s designed for everyday family driving. It’s often mentioned because it’s considered dependable and good for safety. People also talk about it in terms of how well it holds up over time.
The Toyota RAV4 is a compact SUV known for being a dependable, family-friendly option. In the podcast context, it’s referenced as a vehicle people trust for safety and for strong real-world ownership value. That’s why it often comes up when discussing what to buy for everyday driving and family use.
"You could look at the Santa Fe which is smaller than the Palisade and it does have a third row seat albeit not as Remy a third row seat as the Palisade has"
The Hyundai Santa Fe is a mid-size SUV that can still have a third row. In this conversation, it’s described as a step down from the Palisade in how much space you get.
The Hyundai Santa Fe is a smaller three-row-capable SUV compared with the Palisade. The speaker highlights that it has a third-row seat, but it’s not as roomy as the Palisade’s third row.
"Then the Kia Sportage may be something to look at and it comes in a hybrid as well as The as the RAV4 and I don't know if you're looking at hybrids or not doesn't matter But if you are certainly you're gonna get better fuel economy"
A hybrid uses both a gas engine and an electric system. The main benefit mentioned here is that it usually helps you get better gas mileage.
A hybrid powertrain combines an internal combustion engine with an electric motor/battery to improve efficiency. The speaker notes that if you’re considering hybrids, you can expect better fuel economy, and mentions that both the RAV4 and Kia Sportage are available in hybrid form.
"but I don't know Whether and it's paid for so I don't know whether to just Keep it. I drive a truck so just to keep it"
He says the car is paid off. That means he doesn’t have a car payment every month, which makes it easier to justify keeping it.
Paul notes the vehicle is “paid for,” meaning there’s no ongoing loan payment. That changes the economics of keeping vs selling because the monthly cost is lower, though other ownership costs still apply.
"Keep it. I drive a truck so just to keep it As a second car that I never drive. I mean or should I sell it Trade it. I'm not sure what to do. It's nice to have a second car"
He’s considering keeping it as a backup car that he doesn’t drive much. That can be nice for convenience, but it can also cost money to keep insured and maintained.
Paul describes using the 4Runner as a second car that he rarely drives. This raises a practical ownership concept: keeping a spare vehicle can be convenient, but it also ties up money and can create ongoing costs (insurance, registration, maintenance) even if it’s not used often.
Concept
emotional attachment vs financial decision
"Do you have Let me think how to put this best do you have an emotional attachment to it? Um, a little bit, but it's almost it's almost a double."
The host asks whether Paul has an emotional attachment to the vehicle, which affects whether he keeps it or sells it. In car decisions, sentiment can outweigh pure economics, especially when the car is tied to a person’s memory.
"Sometimes two to four weeks for it to bring top dollar and get you the most possible money That's the way to go"
“Top dollar” refers to maximizing the sale price you receive for your vehicle. In this context, the host contrasts waiting a couple of weeks for the right retail buyer versus taking quick cash that usually costs you money.
"They're looking for that low mileage six-cylinder toyota And a lot of people don't love the new body style as much as the old body."
Low mileage means the car hasn’t been driven much. Buyers usually trust it more and are willing to pay more for it.
“Low mileage” means the vehicle has been driven relatively few miles, which often increases buyer confidence and resale value. The host ties it to demand for the preferred Toyota configuration.
"Took the advantage of going to mission viejo kia
bought the new teleuride"
This is the name of a Kia dealership the caller visited. They’re talking about how the sales and service team treated them.
Mission Viejo Kia is a Kia dealership location referenced by the caller. Dealership experiences—sales staff, finance managers, and service—often drive how people perceive the buying process.
"The guy's there and I I don't compliment finance managers very often or never
Nobody does the finance manager
Guy was fantastic."
After you pick the car, a finance manager helps with the loan paperwork. They may also talk about extra options that can add cost.
A finance manager (often called the “F&I manager”) is the dealership employee who handles financing paperwork and typically discusses add-ons like warranties or service plans. Their approach can strongly influence the overall buying experience and final cost.
"They sell cars at list price. They don't add anything to it. That's right."
List price is the price the car is officially posted at. If a dealer sells at list price, they’re usually not charging extra just because they can.
“List price” is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) or the posted price a dealer advertises. When a dealer sells at list price, it typically means they’re not adding large markups over what the car is officially priced at.
"...and he's got two Mazda dealerships and you can walk in any one of his dealerships..."
Mazda is a car brand known for cars that feel fun to drive. Here it’s mentioned because the dealership owner has Mazda stores.
Mazda is a Japanese automaker with a reputation for driving feel and design, especially in models like the Mazda3 and CX-series SUVs. The transcript mentions Mazda dealerships as part of the owner’s dealership group.
"Zach well, you better pick it up because now t-mobile has the fastest 5g home internet according to ucla speed test really ... Plus they've got a five-year price guarantee."
They’re talking about internet for your house that uses 5G cell towers. Instead of running cable or fiber, it connects over the wireless network, and they’re saying it’s very fast and has a deal on price.
The segment is discussing T-Mobile’s 5G home internet service, which uses cellular 5G signals to provide internet access at home instead of traditional cable or fiber. They’re framing it as “fastest” based on third-party speed testing and emphasizing pricing guarantees.
"It starts at just 30 bucks a month with autopay and a voice line plus a five-year price guarantee"
Autopay means your bill gets paid automatically each month. Some deals only apply if you set it up.
“Autopay” means the monthly bill is automatically paid from a linked payment method. Many telecom promotions require autopay to qualify for the advertised discounted rate.
"If you're gonna lease something and you're not a high mileage driver Nothing that leases better than a Toyota or a Lexus. Oh, sure"
They’re saying leasing is better if you don’t drive too many miles. Leases usually have a mileage limit, and going over it can cost you money.
The host references “high mileage” as a key factor in whether leasing is a good idea. Leases typically include mileage limits, and exceeding them can trigger extra charges at lease end.
"On financing and maybe they'll buy an extended warranty
Where do they live? Are they neighbors of ours?"
An extended warranty is extra protection you buy after the car’s original warranty expires. It can help pay for repairs later, depending on what’s covered.
An extended warranty is coverage that goes beyond the factory warranty period. Dealers often sell it to reduce the risk of paying out of pocket for certain repairs after the original coverage ends.
"but if she wanted to trade it in does it make any sense now to trade the thing?
The gas of course she only likes to run premium"
A trade-in is when you turn in your current car to help pay for a new one. It only makes sense if the value you get is good compared to what you’d pay overall.
A trade-in is when you apply the value of your current vehicle toward the purchase of another vehicle. Whether it “makes sense” depends on the trade-in value, the new car’s price, and how much you’d lose due to depreciation.
"No, it does not and it's not the dealers the dealers don't care what octane you put in a car. It's the manufacturers They test them with premium"
Octane is like a fuel’s “anti-knock” score. If your car doesn’t need high-octane gas, using it usually doesn’t make the car run better.
Octane is a fuel rating that indicates how resistant gasoline is to “knocking” (premature combustion) in an engine. Higher-octane fuel is required only when an engine is designed to use it, typically due to higher compression or specific tuning.
"It was a lease With just just taxes down plus the first payment And it was 379 a month."
A lease is like renting a car for a few years with monthly payments. At the end, you usually return it (or sometimes buy it), depending on the contract.
A lease is a financing structure where you pay to use the car for a set term, typically with mileage limits and an end-of-lease disposition option. The speaker uses the lease deal to highlight affordability, quoting a monthly payment.
"Electric cars are simpler than Internal combustion engine cars... The biggest worry with an electric car is range and battery life"
EVs usually have simpler mechanical systems than gas cars. The big things people worry about are how far they can go and whether the battery will last.
Electric cars (EVs) generally have fewer moving parts than internal combustion vehicles, which can reduce certain types of mechanical failures. The speaker frames EV ownership around two main concerns: range and battery longevity.
Subaru is a car brand. They’re saying the same dealership group also sells Subaru cars.
Subaru is a mainstream automaker known for all-wheel-drive systems and practical vehicles. Mentioning Subaru alongside other brands suggests the dealership sells multiple lines, which can matter for inventory variety and cross-brand comparisons.
"But if you go to carproof show and they are still a part and a proud sponsor and ... But if you go to carprobe.com click listen live you can join us for the next hour and"

We had two go up this week.
The Audi A5, which is a beautiful car.
And then I had the Alfa Romeo Tenali.
You did like that one, actually.
I did like that Tenali and they've made some nice changes to that.
And I gotta tell you, there's some smoking lease deals on that thing right now.
I've come to find out.
Yeah, I didn't know that when I had it.
But afterwards, I was talking to the Stellantis media person.
She's going to, she's going to lease one herself.
Because the deal's so good.
Yeah, it's great.
Tenali Sport Speciale.
Especiale, don't forget the Especiale.
Put that on there in our free weekly newsletter that came out yesterday.
And you can get it by subscribing today at carpro.com at the bottom of the page.
We had our videos of the week.
Why are you laughing, Todd?
Well, because you certainly like to go and see where my video ends up every
single week and the only look at the top five.
Unfortunately, my video didn't clear the top five this week.
Oh, no kidding.
I'm sorry to hear that.
I don't know if you're that sorry, though.
I don't know about that.
I might be a little bit sorry.
Your video was, well, it was pretty funny.
Let's hope it doesn't happen anywhere.
Yes.
Because that would be horrible.
But it's a brand of humor that really not as acceptable anymore.
A little bit woke.
I mean, just a tad.
And but it's from a comedy show that I've seen that before and was reminded of it.
It's really funny.
I won't give it away.
You need to go and check it out, but it's well worth your few minutes to go and
see it. Yeah.
If you if you take it with a grain of salt, right, you'll enjoy it.
Absolutely.
It's just pure raw humor.
Just to set it up.
A very large lady goes into a car dealership to purchase a very small car.
And so that's a bad combination.
Hilarity ensues, as they say.
Yes.
There's no question about that.
An appropriate sales guy.
I bet.
Yes, eight hundred, nine two six, seventy seven, seventy seven were here.
It's the end of the month, it's the end of the quarter.
It's the end of the truck month.
There are some great incentives out there.
And as you'll learn from next week's free weekly newsletter, I give you an
update on what's going on with the used car market.
And it is still sky high.
So if you've got to trade in, I'm going to tell you right now,
is the time.
I I know I get tired of saying it too, but
The used car market cannot stay as high as it is right now. It makes no sense and
The prices are gonna come down if they just if they've gone up all year long this year so far
and I know it's only but we're only three months into it almost but
They keep going up higher and higher and higher if you tried to trade even in December and
You owe too much on your car
I encourage you to try again with one of our dealers because the market is it just keeps going up
Let's go to the phones and talk to V
And she is calling from spring, Texas in the Houston, Texas area V. Welcome to the car pro show
Hi, Jerry having me. Oh, it's a pleasure. What can I help you with?
Yeah, I am in the market now to get a car and I've always driven a Toyota
4 I've been quite a few years now, so it's slowly giving out on me
And I'm trying conflicted a little bit between either just getting another Toyota R4 or I am also hearing about the Hyundai
Palisades, so I'm confused. I don't want ultra luxury, but I do want good comfort and
Safety for the family. Well, we know how good the RAV4 is and we know that it's typically a quarter million mile vehicle without any major problems
When you when you start getting into the Palisade and stuff you now we're into three row SUVs. Is that something that you would use?
Maybe not all the time, I mean, we don't have a big family. We're a small family of three
So again, I'm hearing a good good things about it, but I'm more partial to the RAV4 myself
Yeah, and there's there's a tremendous price difference. I mean, we're talking about
$20,000 roughly
Between the RAV4 and a Palisade now there are some stops
in between
the size of the RAV4 and the Palisade Palisade is the biggest
Hyundai that that they make so
You could back off a little bit
You could look at the Santa Fe which is smaller than the Palisade and it does have a third row seat albeit
not as
Remy a third row seat as the Palisade has and
When you start talking about Hyundai's
You know, you really got to consider Kia as well because they're very similar in so many ways
They look different, but underneath
They're they're very close to being the same thing. So the key is Sportage is a good choice
If you know if you don't want to go all the way to the third row
But you want a roomy or two row?
Then the Kia Sportage may be something to look at and it comes in a hybrid as well as
The as the RAV4 and I don't know if you're looking at hybrids or not doesn't matter
But if you are certainly you're gonna get better fuel economy, but
You know, there's just so many good choices, but still at the end of the day
What's gonna last you the longest and it sounds like you keep a vehicle for a very long time
And if that's the case
You probably should go back to a RAV4
For you thought I was thinking what about the Highlander is that too big?
It's it's it's it's big. There's no question. It's it's it's big you might
You might when you're looking at Toyotas, you might look at a crown
Signia, it's a different kind of SUV
It's a two-row with a lot of cargo in the rear and it's more like a car than it is an SUV
so go down to Con Row and and go to Fred has Toyota world and talk to them they treat my listeners great and see
What they can show you I think you'll be replaced
The car pro Jerry Reynolds knows things you just can't know
So call it on the chase dot com car pro listener line
189 to 677 77
And it's the car pro show Jerry Reynolds the car pro me Todd Chambliss newsletter this week
One of the most clicked items is the advice column where Jerry talks about a prepaid or one-pay auto lease
And I guess this was brought to my attention
Few months ago when we had a caller ask you you'll have this you probably have this had this a million times people ask
And I'm gonna find a good use car for $10,000 for you know for my daughter for my son going to college
Yeah, well, yeah go back in time. Maybe you can find one, but these days with
You know, especially electric cars and with incentives and different things going on
You can get a $10,000 car if you do a prepaid lease and you do it the right way
That's right
And you get all the benefits of a lease
But you've got a brand new car with warranty for the next three years
And it just makes really good sense. It's yeah, if you've got someone if you're going to pay $10,000 for a used car
Anyway, why not go this round know that they're in a brand new car
It's covered if there's any mechanical issues for the most part and just change the oil and take care of the car
Yeah, there you go. It's real simple
And let's talk to paul in dripping springs, texas paul. What's going on my friend?
Hey, jerry. Thanks for taking my call. I had a quick question. Um, my
Uh, wife passed away about eight months ago. Oh, I'm so sorry
Well, thank you. Thank you and one of the one of my dilemmas is
Her car is perfect. It's a three year old forerunner with only 14 000 miles on it. Oh goodness
And the grind just never it's never even been to a car wash. I always it's perfect
but I don't know
Whether and it's paid for so I don't know whether to just
Keep it. I drive a truck so just to keep it
As a second car that I never drive. I mean or should I
sell it
Trade it. I'm not sure what to do. It's nice to have a second car
But it's a really nice car to have for a second car if you if you know what I mean
It's I don't worry the value of it's going to decline
Versus what it's worth to somebody if that makes sense. Yeah, and and it will even even with the low miles like that
Do you have
Let me think how to put this best do you have an emotional attachment to it?
Um, a little bit, but it's almost it's almost a double. They sort is like when I drive it. It kind of bumps me out
I understand. So it's kind of like so it's kind of like I need to drive it
So I do drive it and then when I do drive it. It's it's kind of a challenge and so
So it's it's that
My children don't have an emotional attachment to it. So that makes it a little bit easier to
I think transact business. Yeah, paul. I think I'd sell it
And I think the way to sell it is
If you go to my website carpro.com of at the top of the page
You'll see sell a car
And yeah, it's going to give you two choices
You don't seem to be in a rush
To sell it. Correct. Correct. So I would put it on consignment
With retail my ride
I know the founder of that company extremely well. He's helped hundreds of my listeners through the years
If you need quick cash, that's not the way to go if you can wait
Sometimes two to four weeks for it to bring top dollar and get you the most possible money
That's the way to go and they're very very good at what they do
They know where to market any kind of car
And that's the key
To the whole deal. I mean there's a gazillion places that they could list it online
But they've been doing this long enough. They know exactly where to go with a certain kind of car. That's a very
valuable piece of merchandise now
The new one is out and that has hurt the value slightly
But there are still people it where we get
Where we get into it with with these especially with toyotas is people who have had the six owner like you have
For so many years now all of a sudden it's a four-cylinder turbo, right? And they're they're leery of it
They're looking for that low mileage six-cylinder toyota
And a lot of people don't love the new body style as much as the old body. That's exactly right
That's exactly right. And so if if retail my ride takes it
markets it
They're going to know immediately that they can ask top dollar for this
And it's going to sell and that's going to put the most money in your pocket. I am
Incredibly
Sorry for your loss. I I can thank you. I can I can imagine
No, I really can't I'm not gonna lie
Brother you sound well, I appreciate it. I really do you sound great. You sound sound like I know it's been eight months
but you sound great and and
You just hang in there and let's let's get that gone. Put the money somewhere
Set on it for a while. Then if you want that second car, you know what? I'd get something fun
I would I think I think and I don't know your your wife, but I think she would want you to probably do that
Get a convertible
If you bought a car you thought you'd love but now you want to push it off a cliff
Oh, thanks, Jerry. I just have a quick one. I just want to let you know. Um, yeah, I took uh
Took the advantage of going to mission viejo kia
bought the new teleuride
A fantastic car
I'm not exaggerating the ex version has everything I needed on it
The guy's there and I I don't compliment finance managers very often or never
Nobody does the finance manager
Guy was fantastic. Roy was he's been in the business for a long time. He was new to uh kia mission viejo, but
fantastic guy
My wife and I were with him for 30 minutes and i'm not kidding
He was the nicest guy in the world and the service there was fantastic. Um, I just want to let your your
Viewership know that
They sell cars at list price. They don't add anything to it. That's right. Um, just a fantastic dealership
Hound respect everybody there and the cells
I call them sales guys. They're not even sales guys. They're more like advisors. They're not pushing you to do anything
Um, just a great experience. I just wanted to share that. Oh, thank you
I hear them advertise on the radio
But just a fantastic group of guys if you knew if you knew John Patterson the owner
He's got that store. He's got a new
Kia store. He's got Hyundai and he's got two Mazda dealerships and
You can walk in any one of his dealerships and they're all the same. It's a culture
It's a culture of people wanting to help others
and I
I
It's hard to get that message across in a 30 second ad. I don't mind telling you but when I hear people like you
That call and and or send me an email and say wow, I went to you know, one of John Patterson's stores and
It was just a great experience
You know, I know
Fantastic. He's he he and he's that kind of person
Him personally, I mean the guy's just
Unbelievable if if every dealership in the country had a John Patterson
The car business would would they couldn't build enough cars. I mean, that's the truth

And
Welcome back to the car pros show
It's the show with jerry wendell's is where he's the car pro and
I'm the road master or the co-host or the other guy Todd. Whatever you want to call me
I was your co-host earlier
We had a friend of mine text in to respond to something you said and they said to oh your co-host there
And i'm like well, it doesn't work that way. I'm i think it was about the song was it
It was about no your transparency about dealerships and how that story which uh, you know what?
We're talking about that right now. Let's talk about that. Okay
You uh, we're talking to a caller and they were trying to figure out their situation and they had gone to a dealership where
They weren't treated right. They didn't go to one of yours
And you kind of later on that you you you peel back the curtain
And you kind of showed everybody what maybe some car dealers don't want everybody to know and that uh, there's there's a way for
Because I think the person was going to pay cash and you said, you know financing car dealers
Actually, they make a little money on the financing. They don't make it from a cash transaction. That's right
His question was after we got through a bunch of other stuff was can I save any money paying cash?
No, you can't dealers don't care how you pay for a car because he was plucking a lot of money down on at least deal
I think yeah, and I was another mistake. It was it was about to make some classic mistakes
He was at a bad dealership dealership told him. Oh, you don't want to lease a Toyota. You want to buy it? Well
You know what?
If you're gonna lease something and you're not a high mileage driver
Nothing that leases better than a Toyota or a Lexus. Oh, sure
So this these people were just lying to him all the way around
and and
So his question was do
Can I save some money for pay cash? No, you can't dealers don't care that you're not impressed with your cash
They they you know tells a long story about how when I owned dealerships
If we were on a really close deal, we're at that point in the deal where
The customer is about to leave without buying a car. I wanted to know some things
Are they gonna finance with us because if they're gonna finance with us, we're gonna make money
On financing and maybe they'll buy an extended warranty
Where do they live? Are they neighbors of ours? If they live in our neighborhood, they need to buy their car for me
So they can service the car when it needs it. Yeah, and and they can tell all their friends exactly
And and so we we we got into those kind of things. It was an interesting call
And there there's some people who are like
I'm probably not that many but if you say well the dealership there's making money off of you
Well, they're a business. They have to make money. I mean, that's the way businesses run
But you want everybody to walk away from the deal happy where the you got a good you got a good deal in your car
the dealership's making some money
And there is no anxiety in the situation profit is not a dirty word
You want them you want anybody you do business with you want them to make a profit because you want them to be there
In case there's a problem. You you don't want a dealer to make money, but you want that loan car, don't you? Yes
That's that's the kind of things you got to think about now. You don't want to make an
You know I said in the earlier show you don't want to buy a car from a guy
Come back the next week and he's got a brand new shiny Rolex
On his building a pool out back in his house. Yeah. Oh, he's not here today. He's on a two week cruise
Thanks to you. Yes. No, you don't want that. You just want a fair deal. That's right
And let's go to the phones and we'll talk to don in sugarland, texas in the houston area don
Hey, buddy. What's happening?
I got a print that's got a uh 2024 rdx
And uh, you know things got so much bells and whistles don't even use the stuff anyway, but anyway, she loved it bought it
Uh, I told her she'd have gotten that excited. Uh, thanks. Got only 9 000 on it. Uh, I was
Saying you should have got a hybrid
Uh, but if she wanted to trade it in does it make any sense now to trade the thing?
The gas of course she only likes to run premium and that's just to kill her even before the war started
Uh, what would you suggest and it would it make sense to trade the car in she only drives like
Probably 10 miles a day
Uh, never really takes any road trips. Uh, probably be the last car
Uh, she's in her 70s. So probably be the last car she owns. What do you what do you think makes sense?
It trading it doesn't make any sense
She doesn't drive enough that even if she
If she picked up 10 miles per gallon
Which is substantial
Even with the price of gas today
The her savings would be
20
maybe 25 bucks a month and
And she was never going to drive enough to to pay that back and then taking a loss on the car that she's got
I can't make I can't make the case for her trading at all
I think she ought to just settle in and keep what she's got be happy with it
At 10 miles a day, you know, she's only filling up once a month
So, you know, even even and we know I know gas is on everybody's mind
And and I almost wrote an article for next week's newsletter about not panic trading, but I wanted to wait another week
When this war is over and it looks like it's winding down or about to I think gas prices will plummet and we'll be back
In texas at least to the 250 to 75
A gallon area real quick real quick
And I was going I was trying to ask her I was trying to tell her to I think you I've heard you mention
She only wants to you run the premium
But I've heard you say but you know the dealers encourage you to run the premium just because you get better mileage
And I don't know if it makes it
No, it does not and it's not the dealers the dealers don't care what octane you put in a car. It's the manufacturers
They test them with premium
Because they they will give you know as as much as 10 percent better fuel economy
But when you look at the difference in cost
That car will run great on regular
She does not need at all
To to run premium and if you will go to carpro.com don and and find the faq page
It's under
It's under car buying resources at the top
You'll see a fuel section and you'll see the article that I've written that so many people have read
It's titled do I really need premium fuel?
And the answer is no not
There are some exceptions
High horsepower engines for instance do not perform as well
On regular as they do premium. I've got one. I've got a Mercedes. It's got
623 horses. I tried it
And it just it's got a hesitation when but that's that's a rare exception if it's just a normal
4 or 6 cylinder engine even a smaller v8
It's it's going to run great on regular the car will adjust itself
And she could save a ton of money
Using regular so get that to read it get that article for and let her read it
How many miles do you think on that rdx?
Oh, that's a have any issues. Oh, it's a Honda. I mean
200,000
150 minimum
But 200 on the powertrain
I mean at 150 she could have
you know power went to
Motor go out she could have a
Air compressor go out. I mean you you're gonna have problems with any cars as it ages and as the miles trip up
Into six digits, but from a powertrain standpoint
She if she's in her 70s driving 10 miles a day. She ain't gonna live long enough to have a problem
Okay, okay

In
The news section of this week's
Newsletter it's the quick chefs. It's the automotive auto industry stories with jerry's commentary
There are a lot of good stories this week. It was hard for me to pick one
To mention or talk about but i'm gonna go with the one about the the license plate in florida
Story about a woman. She was pulled over in a traffic stop
Then the problem is there is a license plate law in florida that took effect last october
Where if the frame, you know the plate frame if it covers any of the actual license plate where and it's a vague law
And that's the problem. Yeah, it's a texas thing
If you cover anything like and the sunshine say they covered i think the s
Of that and because of that she got a ticket spinner night in jail
This became like a fight and a lot of people got involved in this. It's an interesting story to read but
For now that that particular law is still on the books and still in effect
Well, yeah, and i was in the car business still when it when that law went into effect and
My license plate frames that we put on every new car
had
it covered just a
Less than a quarter of an inch of the bottom of the letters and numbers so with that law then they would be
Yeah, i had to trash
Oh hundreds of them
And they weren't cheap. They were about at that time a dollar or something apiece. Yeah, and and i'm trashing
I mean that was at a good time in the car business when i was stocking
3000 new fords at all times you probably had hundreds and maybe thousands of them
Oh, I had thousands of them. Yeah, and a bunch of them running around on the streets
Let's go to tom and also in sugarland tom welcome. How can I help you?
Hey, jerry, thanks for taking my course. It's a pleasure is uh
Question is that i'm looking to uh get a uh toriota
The electric the uh the bz. Yeah, new a bigger battery
What what do you think?
We've reviewed it. It's great. I love
electrics. This is toriotas first
Attempt at an electric so we don't have any long-term history on it, but
With that said
it's a toriota
They waited a long time to come out with one and knowing the way toriota does business
They made sure it was it was perfected before they brought it out
everybody that I've helped
Get one loves it
my
My toriota dealer and dallas this morning had a special on one. It was a lease
With just just taxes down plus the first payment
And it was 379 a month. I mean that's just dirt cheap
And you got to remember too tom that
Electric cars are simpler than
Internal combustion engine cars. I mean, there's less things to go wrong
You know the biggest worry with an electric car is
range and battery life
And it seems seems to be really good with this car
um
Yeah, you know I
I'm hesitant with a lot of car companies to recommend a brand new car that just came out
I bought some myself and I've had good experiences with it
Now I don't think people need to be scared necessarily
Of a brand new car, but when it comes to toriota and lexus
I have zero fear
Okay, I think they they have the old one the the bc for x
Yeah, they have to have you know, there's not enough battery power on it. Yeah
Well, and it's but it was virtually the same car
It's because people like me on the radio made fun of the name
Because nobody could remember it
So they shortened the name and lengthened the battery range
And now they got a car that's selling
I thought they'd drop it. I really did. I thought they did just get rid of it
But they didn't they did what toriota does they made it better and they they fixed the problem
Which was the name?
And now they got a good selling electric and when I say good selling, I mean by comparison to other
Electrics out there. So you'd be fine. And I got some great toriota dealers near you at my website
Buying a new vehicle can either be like Christmas
Or like performing a root canal on yourself
Ouch
