Actually, I think before I do, I had a little driving experience.

It was kind of fun.

I drove.

Well, it was, it wasn't like I drove faster thing, but it was a cool experience.

I drove a 56 speedster.

The cars was restored probably in the nineties or something like that.

So like a really nice car and dude, my first impression was like, Oh, this is

just like a really good car.

Like it does car things really well.

As opposed to like, you would think, you know, a lot of these 50s, 60s, 70s cars you drive

or like rattly pieces of shit.

This thing was like so solid dude and the steering was nice.

Like it just hadn't like driving and I'm like, Oh, I could see why people race these.

Right.

Or like just drive them all the time or drive them all the time everywhere or drive and drive

them aggressively.

I could see like going up in the canyons.

It wasn't a lot of times you drive this older stuff.

You're like, yeah, this is a cruiser and this was a total cruiser and like it was easy

to just cruise down the west cliff and I could see going to the store in it.

And yeah, it's a 1956 car dude.

It's just like so you're saying you don't have to be like sawing at the wheel just to

go straight and like you actually know where the gears are and like the brakes work.

Dude, the brakes were so good.

Like everything was so good.

It wasn't, yeah, they're not like locking up on you.

It's like just driving normal like everything.

It was just a good car dude.

It was kind of amazing that they built that thing.

I mean, how many years ago was that now?

I mean, yeah, 70 70 year old car.

Can you imagine the difference between jumping out of that and getting into a Corvette dude?

I mean, we're just sitting just driving them and at valet speeds like we have as you just

can't even, it's just not really a car you'd want to be in a lot.

I wonder what the hustle it was between them.

I mean, I know that's we're talking that's build quality and materials, but there's also

what you're talking about ergonomics, which is a whole other thing.

I bet they were close.

I bet they were very close back in the day because this is pre Porsche being a very, you

know, this is before they were expensive cars, which started happening in the 70s and 80s.

I bet they were pretty close.

But you know, contemporary is that you would cross shop potentially and yeah, you know,

want top down experience and all that.

And you see all the racetracks and so Cal and stuff like that.

This one had up.

It had like an upgraded gear set where the transmission had longer gears and I would

say to its detriment really for like what I was doing, you know, maybe like it's one

of those things they put like highway gears in or something.

Which is probably great.

If you're going places on the highway, it depends really.

But like I would love it if it had because actually the power was pretty decent because

the car is way nothing to totally and it made good power.

It's like linear and everything, but the gearing was a little long.

So like you kind of rev up first, go to second and then you're kind of like bogging.

You know, yeah, you need some.

You need a little bit of speed there.

Yeah.

That's cool.

What a beautiful car.

That's a classic.

That's definitely great.

And I was so impressed.

I was just impressed with everything like closing the door.

I mean, it's convertible too.

And you close the doors because a great door close, you know, a nice solid one

thunk.

There's no rattles or creeks.

It was just like it was comfortable to sit in and drive.

It was like everything was just so good, but it's so small too.

Easy to get in out of.

How would you, how big are the differences between that and a really nice beetle?

I mean, power wise, like a stock for stock.

A beetle is so slow.

I know they are so slow, right?

Like this is, but it's kind of that you got to row through the gears.

You got to get it.

I'm thinking one that's a little bit more dial.

I don't think I've driven like a full.

I haven't driven.

I can't remember the last or if I've ever driven a really dialed like perfect

beetle.

But like my beetle, the beetle I had a year or two ago was like pretty good

and it drove great, but it had like no power at all.

The shifter was definitely more vague.

That being said, this one's probably rebuilt and like kind of perfect.

And the steering was not that on, you know, they're pretty similar, I would say, but

this thing's even nicer.

I mean, every, the seating position is better.

Obviously this has like the little, those little rad hardback bucket seats.

Yeah.

You know, the stock speedster seats and stuff.

Yeah.

Well, I mean, there's definitely quality differences are pretty great.

Oh, for sure.

It's just a similar experience in a lot of ways.

Convertible, but this felt like I said, it was like a sports car.

You could like, you're like, oh, this is a sport.

Like I wanted to go take it up in the mountains.

Right.

Like I can see ripping, especially stock for stock.

Right.

I mean, even if you had a impeccable like pristine 56 bug, like it's just like it's

that's not a performance car.

Right.

It was like the everyday driver like, you know, thing wet.

I mean, in terms of its tightness and its build quality, pretty, pretty,

maybe comparable pretty good, but like then also, you know, just as you said,

right, you can see why people race these.

Like that car is like beefed up in all the right ways for performance driving.

Right.

And that's what it was from day one and like it has like a bonded body to the,

to the chassis and like all of these little details or everything's beefed up

for performance driving.

So you're going to see, I imagine that as a six, maybe a five,

10th experience, not a huge difference, but as soon as you start pushing it,

like that's where it may, it changes dramatically.

Right.

And, and I think that's where Beatles like old bugs really far fall apart isn't

the way their suspension setup is and stuff, the way they hop and they do kind

of weird stuff and tons of roll.

And this thing just felt like it felt modern, modern in so many ways.

Which is like, that was kind of the most impressive thing where I've driven

all of the American cars, you know, from the fifties, like 57 Chevy's and stuff

like that.

And you're like, you know, our friend has a 57 Chevy that I've driven a little bit

and he has like upgraded brakes and all this stuff.

And I'm like, it's still like the worst brakes ever where this thing is like,

like cars were stopping and I was just like going at a normal pace, driving like

I normally drive and the thing was great.

It was very impressive.

Speaking of similar cars.

Did you see that Carmen Gia build that was at the national Roadster show or the

one that just happened?

Really awesome.

It's, it's called the Karma.

You know, they always have to have a name.

So I sent it to Dante because that's his daughter's name obviously.

It's a, it's very tasteful yet modern.

You know, of course there's going to be things that I would change or modify,

but a very impressive build.

Like the nicest or the most interesting Carmen Gia I've seen in a while to that,

like, you know, Roadster standard where you're, you're getting into like very

everything's customized.

And it's sort of like what we talk about when we're like,

singularize this,

singularize that, you know, this is a not in that like motor sport vein per se,

but very cool, very analog.

I'm kind of enthralled.

Oh yeah.

This, this doesn't even cover the M three.

M three is still TBD because I don't know what the hell to do with that stupid thing.

But, um, I got that continental stereo for the van again and had it installed.

Um, and it is good.

That's, that's all I can say about that.

Oh, that's cool.

It's a, the one that everyone's seen.

It's got a really terrible name.

It's the TRZ five, six, four, two, one, three, eight, six.

Yeah.

It's the super cheap one, right?

It's a super cheap Bluetooth black, you know, face, no CD.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Well, black and white gauges or whatever you want to call it buttons.

Um, very simple, simplistic.

And, uh, it, it's all good.

So the good thing is I had heard early on in the,

they had some connectivity issues with Bluetooth, not like connecting easily.

And, um, I haven't any problems.

So it's been great.

Looks good in the van again.

Um, yeah, thumbs up on that.

And then I had, uh, the Tundra got an upgrade for, uh, Apple carplay.

So sweet carplay and then speakers all around.

Um, it's pretty funny.

They, they gave me the old speakers back and they're in good shape and everything,

but they're 25 year old paper stock Toyota speakers that have been in there.

They're still working.

I mean, they're still fine.

I don't know if there's any value to those holler at your boy.

If somebody needs some 20 year old.

So when they take the tender to the concor and they remove the girls to

double check that they have original speakers.

Yeah.

That's not going to be a fun day for the owner.

I can tell you that we've all been there when you're taking your Sequoia dude.

Can you imagine he was there 99 points for that hundred point?

He just needed the speakers and he had some fucking, it's one of the hardest

things JBLs in there to integrate brutal, exact infinities.

And I used to have a record player from like the sixties by dual German company.

And, um, I didn't even know they were still in business.

And then on Crutchfield, there it was.

And it, uh, it's nice that they now sort by, does it have a volume,

a physical volume controller buttons?

You can sort all the stuff by that.

So obviously I went with a knob and, uh, there we go.

Carplay, good speakers, good, good music.

I listen to music in that truck or, you know, podcast or whatever.

Every time I drive it.

Well dude, carplay is a shit.

I mean, so that's, yeah.

It's so nice.

Anyways, that's my update there.

And also, um, I had the rear rear view camera rewired because they had the

people that I bought it from had it.

It was so bad dude.

It went over like through the carpet and then just over the door seal underneath

the truck.

Like they didn't go under like through the firewall and back,

which is what you would do normally.

And a couple of other funny things.

So I will also tell you that they, the new stereo has two separate usb

ports that you are like just dongles that you can plug in and the guy was

like really quick to tell me like, you know, that's for your usb drive

with all your music.

You know, you got all those songs on your drive and you plug that in every

time you get in the car.

You're good to go.

That's pretty sick dude.

So maybe I need to get back into the usb drive scenario.

So well, real quick, I do have an update for you.

Speaking of technology, DWA now owns a $200 PC laptop and I fixed my idol on the

E 30.

Whoa, dude, dude.

So you're like, you're like a McLaren F1 with the Dell computer or whatever.

I'm like a McLaren F1 with a Dell computer.

I bought the cheapest laptop I could find.

Dude, photo, photo or it didn't happen.

Why is this not?

Oh, we got to hook it up with like the shot, right?

You need the shot of you sitting there like tuning your car.

It's got to happen.

Like someone in the passenger seat as you're driving.

I should just have it.

I'm just monitoring everything at all times.

I told you guys, I need like a little stand like the cops have like a little stand for

right there.

And if I, when I park it, cars and coffee, I'll just have danger to manifold displayed,

you know, from fast and furious.

We owe.

Oh, I know.

But, um, so yeah, it's, it's, it's so awesome, dude.

Like I, I have had this car with the swap for, I don't know, well over a year now,

whatever, however long it's been.

And my idol has never been right.

And it finally is right.

Um, and it's so nice.

And it's not just the idol.

I've told you guys, it's like, it sort of has this rev hangie kind of thing.

And like it, when it doesn't return back to idle nicely.

So when you're driving, um, it was three things.

Uh, and I just, you know, uh, last weekend just went deep dive on this bitch.

And I'm like, I'm going to figure this shit out.

And so yes, I had to recalibrate the TPS, which I did with the, with the computer,

with the, uh, with the program, it's K manager.

And then also I changed a couple of things.

Uh, one, um, I deactivated the idle air control valve cause I'm like, fuck this thing.

Like it's like another, another thing to mess with, which means it's,

it's basically only active when you're during the warmup process.

So it's like, once the car is warmed up, it's fine, you know,

and like it's another thing that gets like caught up and fucking, um, you know,

that, that, uh, ultimately can get blocked.

So, um, so that eliminated that other picture.

Uh, but that was not what was affecting it.

What was affecting was the, the, the sweep on the TPS, uh, the map sense.

I'm sorry.

The, the, the TPS sensor itself was just, you know, cause the weird thing is that

it'll read the right resistance in different positions, you know, like,

and so it was just in this type of a, of a TPS is an acuity type and it's sprung

inside really heavily.

And so it was putting too much pressure on the throttle plate.

So when you would let off, it was just enough resistance that it wouldn't return

closed all the way because the TPS was kind of holding it.

And so I've recalibrated the TPS and then last, but not least cause at that point,

um, cause I was doing the thing, you know, one, one, one thing at a time, right?

So ultimately see what the, the effect was.

Um, and the last thing was that after I fixed those two things,

it was still idling at like 1500, not 2000, but like 1500.

It was no, not surging or anything, but it was not great.

Not, not ideal, not ideal.

So there is a little stay screw, like a set screw that limits the throttle plate

like rotation, like, and so it doesn't go beyond closed, you know, that was off

by like one fucking thread rotation, do one rotation.

That rotation fixed the problem entirely idling exactly where it needs

to be idled, like all that.

So it's, it's super tiny fucking minute thing.

And, and I kept fucking with it.

So cause I noticed it had an effect.

I went like really far in, really far out.

I'm like, okay, this is doing it.

So then, um, it took me like 30 minutes to get it just right.

Dude, but that's going to move.

Don't you think over time?

I mean, does that have a locker?

Yeah.

So I put, I, so I did put a little bit of blue on there and it's, you know,

it's cinched down.

It's going to, I mean, it has a nut that holds it in place.

It's got it, but, but even then it's a buzzy ass motor, right?

So, so there's that.

Keep an eye on it.

At least you know now, dude.

Yeah.

So a big update on that to the point where like talking about driving

enjoyment, just driving around town, like I will use the car everywhere

now.

I've been driving it everywhere because like it just drives like a

normal car now.

I don't have to deal with the students, but you still have the exhaust,

right?

Well, the exhaust, there's the down date.

The exhaust down date is so on when I was doing all this shit.

Like, you know, I took it out a few times.

All of a sudden I developed a gnarly exhaust rattle and one of the

mounts broke off.

So, and, and I think it's as I had told you guys, like besides the

vibration, I don't think it was that big of a problem is that I kept

hitting it on stuff because it's very low.

So I think, you know, just it's a little, it was a little aluminum

bracket that, that beeline made and like normally it would be fine,

but the fact that it keeps getting like hit, you know, eventually

cracked it and it snapped off.

So I made another one just for shit that I have in my garage,

like temporarily.

So I just need to get new mounts redone.

I'm going to have them, you know, use a beefier material, but the

plan is still the long-term plan is to do a whole new exhaust

system.

But right now I'm just like happy that this thing fucking works.

And I was like, I'm just stoked to just drive it.

And I mean, the other good news is that you can get back into going

to raves and maybe even like hack into the main frame.

This is true.

I can hack into the main frame, but most importantly, like I could

also like, you know, participate in rave culture, which is near

and dear to my heart as people who listen to this podcast.

No, you're back.

You can also tune all your homies cars in the same area.

I could show up to the races, right?

And then on the side, I can like add some more juice on the side

right there.

You have a little computer bag and stuff.

Well, the last thing I'll say about that is the fascinating thing about

all of it is that the later ones are way more valuable.

I mean definitely fewer of them and that I would end that gear set and

the first ones is yeah.

That sucks.

I mean that's something that makes the car almost like on yeah.

I mean that's why realistically like I enjoyed the car a lot.

There's such beautiful cool cars, but the gearing is what killed it for me

and like so bad and it's a, you know, it's an investment.

I had I'm like, alright, check this box.

thing isn't as affected also, especially when you have additional cars that can

If you're going to like track this car, like really want to use it, you know,

suspension on it, but brand new, it's going to feel great. So I think I'm,

week and the door handle wouldn't like it. It's just not a natural thing. You can't

open it easily. So that's one of those like user interfaces that you just don't

need to modernize. Like no, they have like the butt like a haptic feedback

like button under it that you press and it just does a weird. It's not like it

doesn't pull when you want it to pull. It kind of has a little D 10 and then it

goes and this one also it's spring loaded to go back into the body. So your

hand can get stuck in that spring loaded part, right? And again, I'm sure this is

something you get very used to as you use the car every day, but in general, we can

all agree like the just a pole, you know, like they suck. Yeah. And then you're like

walking away or like the door rooms are out. Yeah. Yeah. And it's over to a photo.

I'm going to try to photograph a Mercedes and it was like so annoying because I

would have to like turn it off and some, you know, photographing the car. It was

hard to put the door handles in. Yeah. Yeah. It's not good. Oh, I think it was the

EQS. Yeah. I think so. That car was just a I wonder. Yeah. It's supposed to be an

aerodynamic thing, right? Like I wonder how much of an impact it really makes.

effort for a lot of effort. Like the new 9 11's have those stupid little door handles

sweet. So 9 11 only makes they don't make a normal turbo anymore. They just make a

turbo s. What is the starting price of a 9 11 turbo s coupe? Wow top notch, huh?

270,000 300 starting starting price. So by the time you get your little bullshit

Here's another one base level base model 9 11 Carrera, not anything special like the

most base model 9 of them Carrera starting price 135 5 and that one jumped a bunch too

because I think you could get one for like 95 not that long ago. It was 100 and like

105 or something 105 or something like two or three years ago or something. The

interesting thing is I just did a whole like I went through and like did all the

math and stuff like this is exactly the same price they were in like 1987

essentially with inflation. So it's not like it's not that out of line, but it

is sounds really big because it went. The number sounds so big and the jump in the

last two years has just been ridiculous because of inflation's jump so much and

I imagine tariffs have something to do with it. Yeah, right. Yeah, but isn't that

crazy? That's 170 grand like your mind just doesn't go there dude. My mind goes

to like 170 absolutely for a turbo and you're like to 270 bucks like I mean

last couple of years. They must make so much profit per turbo s speaking of

one turbo manuals. I think that's such a cool car like I doesn't have a place

for me because like maybe if I wanted to be have it as a baller daily would make

sense but it's way too much for what I do around town like I'll never get to open

it up but like I think it's a rad car as like a fourth or like in third or fourth

car for me like to have in the mix like a fun like especially like a it's like

the ultimate GT right and it looks good if the size is great you know all and it

does still sound cool modern modern yet still analog still analog very very fast
