And those are both pretty much full blown Radwood shows sold out both events last year. It's looking really good this year because we have an awesome lineup for some carrots to dangle.

I'll just say that we don't have anything I can announce quite yet, but some really cool cars coming to both events, but more halo cars.

Yeah, I did. I did want to mention though real quick about Heritage Invitational. It's at the 10 tense Motor Club, which is normally a private members only track that is like really, really nice, super cool track.

And, you know, the facilities are really nice and all that. It's restaurant on site bar, but it's we're part of the Concor. So the Heritage Invitational is a Concor.

And there will be some heavy hidden Radwood era cars that are part of the Concor as an extension of what we do, plus like the Radwood piece, which is, you know, our own nice very varied group of cars, you know, but that's that's our presence there.

But Super Rad facility happen to be there now. Last year we did the Auto Fair, which is sort of like the flea market component of the bigger event.

But now we're like in the really like basically the coolest spot like on the track. We're displaying our cars on the racetrack sort of how we've done the past in Austin and at Goodwood.

That's all I have to say about that. You had a lot to say. I know I did, but it wasn't that bad. We have some questions from our previous podcast we didn't get to. Would you guys like to start off there?

We can do that. We can also at some point we should talk a little maybe formula one. It's on the list. It's on the list. Yeah, yeah. No, I think we'll have time. Let's jump into these.

Our buddy Ben Roget says, what's the biggest risk you've taken in your professional career?

So dude, that's so funny. Warren, I just mentioned something on the last call. We were just talking about this totally not even considering this question, but I have an answer for you because it's very front of mine.

I applied at a little company with 10 employees called GoPro back in 2000, late 2009 or something and simultaneously applied at BMW San Francisco for a sales position.

And I turned down the sales position at BMW San Francisco and accepted the one at GoPro.

You idiot.

No, you could have sold so many cars.

And GoPro. What's going on these days?

Well, they were I left at the peak. Okay. So it was one of those things where, you know, there was a total risk, right? It was a camera company.

They didn't even have an HD product yet. It was something that I was interested in because I wanted to use it for autocrossing.

And yeah, it was it was kind of a, I mean, in theory, a risk there right from like just something very well established something that I knew very well to like just this other opportunity.

But that's that's not necessarily taking a leap like starting Radwood from and having a very cushy tech job and taking, you know, over a 50% pay cut when you have kids in a family and all that.

That was more extreme, I think from like an actual risk. Luckily it worked out, but that was that was definitely the biggest risk.

I think from like being established to nothing or to starting something from scratch versus like, you know, going from one position to the next and then just taking one of one one choice.

That was a risky one versus one that was established.

Yeah, I think that's a good. That's a great answer.

I can go my, I was in a position to do some career shifts when I got laid off.

So I was working in like for AT&T wireless and quote unquote working my way up to middle management, which is super fun.

And I got laid off and it was the best thing that ever happened.

So it wasn't really a risk, but at that point I could have gone back into that same world into like kind of corporate office stuff and I had some opportunities to do that, but I was a car guy.

And so I thought I would be really good at service writing and running a shop and no one seemed to think so because I applied at a few different places.

Yeah, you know, it just wasn't a fit or they weren't hiring, whatever it was, but then you didn't have a track record either.

Exactly. I was basically like, I'm a car guy, so let me work here.

And then my girlfriend at the time, her brother-in-law, his family owned a shop in Santa Cruz and just so happened to be looking for exactly that.

And so he gave me a shot and then five years later I left there and went to another shop and then, you know, driving awesome and Radwood and et cetera, et cetera.

So that was kind of the, I chose kind of like art, you know, it was basically, you know, not a, it was a big pay cut to go into the automotive field, but at the same time it was what I was into.

So it was a bit of a risk and it worked out.

Yeah, dude. I mean, mine's kind of my sec, mine's the same as our second basically.

It's like basically taking a, I don't know, at the time 75% pay cut to do Radwood full time basically and then do that for several years or a couple of years, a few years at that same, you know, just kind of at that rate at that rate, dude.

Yeah, as we have, you know, multiple children and.

Yeah, but it's like the story I think underlying there is like follow passions, see what happens, you know, that could almost be like an M&M lyric, but and then, you know, it doesn't have to be forever.

If it's not working out or you find another opportunity comes your way and you want to bounce back to that and then you can always, you know, come back to the passion stuff or keep it on the, as like a passion project, which driving while awesome always was

like we just did it because we liked it. So if it turns into something that's awesome and you get a lot of opportunities and relationships because of it.

Yeah, I mean, so for sure.

So just Ben JLR, I know that your designer, head designer was just fired or whatever. So just go ahead and you know, move on to something else.

Yeah, all these risks are like, I mean, in reality, they're pretty minor though, I would say, because like we could always go back and

That's what I'm saying. You know, it's like, it's like what?

Like these are risks like a lot of people don't take, but in reality, it's like not that big of a risk, you know, you could always go back and you can get another, you can get a corporate job, you can get your whatever, you can get a real job, you know.

And life is short. How often do you get an opportunity to follow a passion?

Like if you're into whatever it is, like if you're into music and you want to be in like the concert world and promotions and all that, like, you know, you can give it a try and see how you like it.

But if you don't do it, all of a sudden you're, you know, 60 years old and Ben wants to like sit around and just drink whiskey all day.

I don't know if that's like the best.

So he was to be there to go. I mean, well, it's also, I mean, there are implications, right? If like in our scenario, like if you're, if you have a family and you're, you're married and you have children to like provide for that.

There's something there, but like he's a single dude. So, so I feel like there's way less risk for him there. Of course, yeah, there's financial risk and, you know, and ultimately time that's the main thing, right?

Like if you're committed to something else and that's just, that's really it, but I think he's in a great position if he's considering some other things.

I don't know why we're assuming this, you know, he's just.

Oh, he asked the question.

Yeah, no, I talked to him. It's something that could happen.

Ditto's dad says, with Blaupunk and recently pioneer introducing modern versions of retro car stereos, what other automotive accessory from the past do you wish would get a revival?

I was thinking like a Garfield suction cup.

Dude, maybe make it magnet this time.

They're gonna say MAGA.

Magnets good or like the sunglasses cardboard windshield.

Oh, the shade by the sun shade.

How about bug? How about a bug deflector?

Bug deflectors are still a thing. I mean, still a thing.

I haven't seen like a plexi colored plexi bug deflector on on a modern car.

It's all like trucks. You just see those on like suburbans and stuff, but maybe not modern, modern.

As you were saying, did they still make the club?

Is the club a thing?

So what I'm what I'm getting, what I'm thinking though, like what is the improvement?

Cause all these, all these retro things are improved.

So is the new club used like a Bluetooth?

Like a like those shitty locks at B line that were there that never ever.

Yeah, that always are. Or they like try to lock 50 times as you're.

You know, I that's a good call.

I don't know if this counts. It's, I mean, so far Holly's the one who's like sort of kind of been spearheading this,

but like the retro lighting where it's like, it looks like a regular fluted lens,

like a regular halogen, but it has an LED light in it and it's way high output.

But they're the only ones who are doing it.

I feel like that needs to become the standard because all of this aftermarket shit that people are putting on retro cars is so awful

and it really ruins the cars.

I like that. That's like kind of that's like it all.

That's that's a good one because like you want the fluted lenses and all that kind of stuff.

And that's just, and that's also for the other pieces too, because people are doing it for corners.

They're doing it for like the driving lights and it just looks like shit.

I mean, I can, I can say with confidence, I'm pretty sure Warren that there have been cars at Radwood

that did not win an award that were in the running for an award because of the shitty modern lighting on it.

That just ruined the whole car for us.

Well, that's when it comes down to there's two good cars like take a Toyota truck.

For example, it'll be like a perfect restored Toyota pickup and a perfect forerunner, right?

They're side by side, but the pickup has those crappy LED cluster headlight replacements.

It ruins the entire vibe of the car kills it.

And I would say that those round, whatever they are, like six inch bulbs that are with the projectors built the two projectors

and then the black background with the blackout.

Dude, those ruin every car that they're on.

I just saw there was a story that came out. It was like a Baja bug.

It was like Haggerty does these like on Instagram.

They'll say like, check out this, you know, Resto mod or whatever it is.

And it was this rad build of a Baja style bug for the streets.

And it had the really smooth nose of a bug that they do for Baja bugs with the lights in the nose on the actual hood.

And it had those new headlights and I'm like, it's complete garbage.

And nothing else matters at that point.

I can't even pass the headlights.

No, yeah, I know you're dead.

I saw a nine six four last weekend like that and it had the those headlights and you're like, oh, it's a nice car nine six four.

I think it was a Targa even and then he comes to those headlights and he was like, oh, the car sucks.

Fuck that car.

Every decision you've made in life is wrong.

Tainted. If you're doing that, if you're doing that with your car, like, what else are you doing?

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah, I can't think of anything else because it does feel like it's an electrical component that's being upgraded, but like better.

I was thinking of all like these accessories that would get added to cars, especially in rattle area, like rear window louvers.

Like having those maybe like adjustable, like you could like close them and open them in some way would be kind of cool.

I don't know. It's interesting.

Yeah.

All the rest of it's like mechanical, which I'm not like as excited about, but the the new stereos I've I've been looking to because I

Yeah, the new ones that were the new blob punk that was released in like eighty six or whatever looks really good killer.

Yeah, there's there's I had a meeting with with Pioneer and there's a whole retro line that they're going to be releasing.

That is that is they look so good. I'm sure everybody saw the drive article. So like that's a hint at to what's to come.

And we're talking about potentially partnering with them in the future here for twenty twenty six.

But yeah, like I'm really excited about that, especially for my car, because as much as I like the block, I like the blob punk.

Like it's perfect for the E 30, but it's just that the pioneer is a Japanese brand, so it goes better with like the ethos of my build.

So I'd rather have the pioneer.

But yeah, unfortunately, they're not here yet. But yeah, it's that's that's such a good one because it's exact. It's a perfect integration, right?

Like the headlights because it looks correct, but it's a improvement. It actually, you know, you get the blue tag and all the other things.

That's all you're asking for. I'm going to do the same thing with the van again because it came with just a Sony, you know, I guess whatever.

This is sort of in the same vein and I got a new gauge cluster for my E 30.

And it's like a fully rebuilt gauge cluster and it has LED lights instead of the original, you know, like the all of the bulbs, the halogen bulbs.

And so it's just, you know, you obviously still control how bright it is, but it's super clean and it's really even, you know, so like that's another little thing.

But I'm trying to think of something else that's like that. I mean, realistically, there's also like structures, right?

Like seats, like you can do like, like modern seats or something that have like better lumbar or whatever, but look like a regular recaro.

So there's stuff like that, but tires are obvious. We've, you know, we're, we preach that regularly.

Like the sprint pluses that I have, the Redistines that I have in my 30, they look like an 80s tire and the shoulder is nice and round, super clean.

That's a big one. And Fred Astine's doing a great job with that, but just like stuff that just looks correct, but has improved compounds and, you know, all of that stuff is great.

But yeah, I mean, you have, you have to really, this requires some research product or SF production.

Gabe, I think we're, we're not prepared to go quite deep here, but unsung heroes is interesting because I still think I'm thinking people, right?

Like the designers and stuff that didn't get enough credit.

I mean, in theory, you would like, oh, what's this face?

I mean, imagine if that had just been a thing where we have a flat eight rear engine sedan.

If we would have like, if we would have his designs and ultimately his stuff was accepted and integrated because if he wasn't such a nut job.

And it's, I feel like just aesthetically super rad, all the VW underpinnings

and just like beefing all of it up, right? Go with Porsche everything or as much as

mechanicals don't match the looks and I feel it's just, you know, it's obvious

really why, you know what if you understand the Brazilian automotive

industry and what they had to work with.

It's a razor edge or just razors. They call them type 34 Carmen Gia razor

razor edge and imagine one of those with like full rally prep.

By the way, I don't know why war and go to one of his favorite cars of all time

and choose a golf rally because that's not a GTI.

I know that's cheating.

to Hooniverse, Jeff Gluckers podcast. I don't know. It was

a no longer thing. I mean, I don't think he's done it for

yeah, six years or more. And that was with our Blake Z wrong and

him. I used to listen to that. And by the way, that brings up

the fact that I got a book sent to us this from that Blake Z wrong

wrote. Oh, nice. Yeah, it's called it's called the Germans

the most iconic German cars and their era. Oh, sweet beauty.

It's a guest gestaltin book. It's a hardback coffee table book.

It's very pretty. It's kind of like, you know, I mean, it's like

those books you got when you're a kid like that you just, you

know, you would go down and get the Ferrari book at logos

Warren. Yeah, or whatever, you know, you would be like, oh

man, I can't. I hope they have some good car books down

there. It's like the ultimate version of that for German

cars, but it's not as much like a to Z. It's more of like

a real like a real car enthusiast making the book as opposed to

like, hey, let's just grab all this shit, you know, like it's

like, it's like really good. It's like good photography. And

from what I could tell, I haven't really, I haven't read it

yet, but you know, it looks like it's like very curated and

well written and stuff, you know, that's great. It's like

an elevated version of one of those books that you would

get when you're a kid. Nice. Pretty red. Is it was the

Peterson one called the car stories? Do you remember the

Peterson one? Oh yeah, it was. I think it was car stories.

Yeah, that was a good one with. Yeah, with the two dudes

that we knew one of the guys died. Yeah, he did pass away

unfortunately. Yeah, but yeah, that was a great podcast and

yeah, I can't think of any others, but yeah, there's been

so many that have come and gone. Yeah, Matt Chewers says, how

do we feel about people that drive around in retired cop cars?

Now that Crown Vix are pretty much phased out. I suppose those

are those at least aren't so bad. Explorers, Suburbans,

Chargers, et cetera. On the other hand, question mark. I

frickin hate people who drive. I mean, my first thought

because my mind is they're a fucking criminal dude, like

they're always like a person. I'm like that person is like

shady as fuck. Yeah, I agree. We have a mutual friend. He

goes by hushy pushy on Instagram, Matt Brown and his

thing is he just said he's you were. I've been in the car

with him. He says is he's I don't know if that's a cop or

or a poor person. Yes, exactly. I mean they might sleep.

That's my first thought. I'm like, do they sleep in that

car? Like the chances of sleeping in the car are 50%.

I mean, yes, I know somebody who this guy that drives me

crazy. He bought a retired cop car explorer like a pretty

new one. It's all black with a cow basher still, but no

other like, I don't think it has any other lights like in

the cow basher. Anyways, and he brags that it takes

him like, you know, he shaves like half an hour off a

trip to Tahoe because everyone pulls over and he can drive

as fast as he wants. I'm like, yeah, because you're an asshole.

Like that sucks. You've like everyone is like kind of bummed

out when you drive by. Yeah, that's that's your whole vibe

and he doesn't get it. So Matt thumbs down thumbs down

just this morning. I saw twice on my way to pick up

and drop off my daughter or drop off and leave her

school. I saw a guy in a charger cop car and I

still am not sure if it was a product. I think it was

tinted window. So I imagine it was a normal person, but

you know, your party is like, are they undercover or

you know, is it just an undercover cop car? Yeah, you

don't know. No bueno. Automotive Omnivore says

some Corvette Mag, some Corvette Magna ride

shocks are no longer available because suppliers made

a standard size batch, but it was depleted more

quickly than expected by replacement of shocks

that displayed a slight oily film, but we're still

fully functional. What are other parts you think

might become no longer available as supplies are

depleted more quickly than expected? Are ZHP

shift knobs in danger from arts consumption alone?

You should see my collection. My garage. You just

use the whole room. Porter. I think it's

the stuff that's like super one off or like just

only used in certain models like the like self leveling

suspension is always a tricky thing. They just

didn't. There were long intervals of replacement.

There weren't a lot of the cars out there for

them to make big batches and then when it comes

down to replace them, they're hard to get parts

for. Yeah, especially if it's like a like a

trim specific thing, right? Like the top of the line

model only got this and those are, you know,

it's a numbers game, right? Yeah, I yeah, that is

basically it. I mean, and you would know this better

than anyone working at a shop, right? Like you see

this kind of stuff. Like you remember like there

was a power steering line that was specific for

my E thirty four and five and it was like seven

hundred dollars or something ridiculous and it's

just because that's the only the E thirty four

and fives have it. Yeah, but and like you

also it's crazy that and I don't even know

what it is today, but manufacturers are only

required to produce replacement parts replacement

parts for their cars for seven years and that comes

so quick when you especially these cars last a long

time like my tundra. It's twenty five years old

and so luckily Toyota is pretty good about it

about making parts, but like by law they're only

required to carry those parts for so long

and then some aftermarket suppliers pick up

the slack and if they see a need for it, but

yeah, it's it's sketchy. This is what makes

cars like a Lotus even sketchier, right?

Like even buying a brand new or like an Avora,

you know now Avoras are what seven years old,

right? Like or ten years old, twelve years old,

fifteen years old. It's like find a window

seal or something like that, you know, once these

cars are fully phased out like because now the

newest ones are still whatever three years old

or something, but once those are in that age

like, yeah, try find those little trim pieces

and stuff like that. The trim, I think

mechanical is one thing and you can, you know,

find people that will make, you know, metal

objects, but when you get into some of this

trim stuff, it's really hard and I think

for those like Japanese cars too, they last

so long, but then the trim falls apart

and to find those pieces is really,

really tricky, so yeah, I don't know man.

It's hard to answer this question as far as

like what will be the next part that we think

will become depleted, but everything

like all of the parts. Yeah, I mean, unless

these car companies really step up, like I

think Porsche does a really good job at it.

BMW does a pretty good job.

Mercedes is doing a pretty good job, but

yeah, you know, a lot of, a lot of companies

like kind of don't give a shit, so.

imagine like to keep the intensity

that high for so long and then once

you hit that I mean it's just like any big

it has to be such a low the guys

that can do it consistently over and over

like a Hamilton or Verstappen like

crazy dude good on them to have

that drive but yeah I always think

about that too in other sports where

especially in like where you're getting paid so much too

like I think that's probably a big factor too

and it's like I have nothing else to accomplish

here like yeah check that

yeah and these solo

sports are even like

these individual sports are

I think more so than

like basketball

or football or something where you have a team

around you and yeah and you

have more accountability too

yeah it feels like these

these are way tougher to like keep

going really well

the teams are also very very involved right

I mean there's there's a massive effort on the car

and all the strategy and like and that's

and that can make or break a lot of this shit

and that's and that happens right like I mean

Ferrari's renowned for it like I mean you can

have the fastest guy out there but

if you guys are blowing it on the strategy

or the car itself then it's it's

it's impossible right I mean

in itself and then how do you

guys feel about the new regulations coming

for next season is this like a good reset

and like what's that going to do is like

it gets rid of the DRS train

does but does it just make it like it was before

the train of people that can't pass like

how the drivers mesh with their car right

in the style that they need to drive the car

the biggest real change in history

like for like how drastic it is so

Lando though is I feel like because

with all things in life right like when it

comes to your your career your performance

as an athlete or whatever it's like it's

particular that Lando sucked at

this year significantly was his starts

like he got so much better as

starts so true and so like so and that

was like a such a crucial thing for him

and so he got a lot better at that so

that was that was nice to see his race

craft is still good and all that but I

feel like that wasn't that was a although

half too because even earlier this year

he was he was failing he was

max would pass him and then like

so I was trying to find like a good

comparison like a head-to-head and I can't

fucking find it but it's a so Lando had

seven wins this this season versus

piastery six and

six polls versus a piastery seven

Norris converted more of his

polls into wins so there's that

and I mean I think

two of those were kind of like

team procedure shit thirteen thirteen

pull so yeah qualifying

favored Norris thirteen

to eleven over

piastery

but piastery did have twelve fastest

laps compared to ten of Norris

they're pretty neck and neck you know and

piastery is obviously very very talented

and it could and when you look at

piastery's growth from last year it's

kind of insane so if piastery continues

in his fourth year he might
