S2 E12 === Welcome back. It is another episode of Very Vehicular. I am your host, Brian Scotto. Today is a unique show. We're trying a whole different format. We are joined by Zach Mertens, AKA, Mister Zachary, to work through an idea that we have been teasing, which is a reunion of all the OG Hoonigans.

We've been talking about this in the background. We've teased it on the pod, but today we actually go through what it could look like, how it could come together. A lot of the specifics. It's kind of just a creative meeting with cameras on and we'd like this to be a bit more interactive.

I don't even know what the name of your podcast is. Oh, Zach, you're such a good friend. Very vehicular. Very ve Yeah. That's why I wanted to call it Scott. I guess you, you've already been on it once.

I know. And we brought you back and you can't even remember the name. Well, you know, I didn't know if you actually were gonna stick to it because I mean, know you here. We know you. Here we are.

By the way, I'm really proud of you because you've been pumping out episodes. Mm-hmm. You've stayed consistent with this. You, you, I've missed a week. You've been saying you're gonna do it for like five years now.

That's right. And now you pulled it off and I'm very proud of you. Consistency brother. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hell yeah, bro. How you, how you doing? I'm good, man. Yeah, I'm really good. Yeah, we've been like kicking ass with the whole burnout wars thing and like, just everything's finally falling into place mm-hmm.

With everything we're doing. Actually, I, like, I was just on the phone in there before we were doing this, and I just got word that, uh, we're jumping our payouts for our next show. So like, we're doing this show with Kane Brown.

It's called Miles On It Tour. It's in Nashville. It's like April 10th and 11th. Mm-hmm. And now, uh, we're bumping up our first class, our, our, our pro class payouts to like 20,000 bucks for the winner.

I think it's like 7,000 for second place, like 3,500 for third place. And then the bro class, I, I don't know what the actual prices are landing on that, but it's still like, it's stacked. Okay. So the thing that I don't understand is like.

We used to do this at Hoonigan and we didn't have to pay anyone anything. Yeah, they paid us to crash their cars. You've broken the formula, buddy. No, no, no. Listen, I'm just kidding. Sure. They're extremely robust. It's in the name, but no one ever talks about the negatives to start. They roll too good. Yeah, they've added locks, but I'm an all gas, no brakes kind of guy. Second, they're way too comfortable, aren't they?

Yeah. 'cause it used to just be kids in ship boxes. Exactly. And now it's like engines that are worth 70 grand. Look, I like people slamming their cars into the K rails and stuff and not giving a single F.

Right? Yeah. But the important thing for me, and also Zach and Lacie going into this, was like, I wanted to build this sport in America. Right? Like we all did. Yeah. And we wanted to see it, uh, evolve because like you go to Australia and then you go to Summer Nats, right?

Like. Dudes are basically taking show cars, like they could just put the right wheels on that thing and roll it into a show and it's immaculate and then there's sand in it, right? So we needed to build, like, we needed to give people a reason to be like, maybe I should make an investment into this thing.

You know, like, listen, making a thousand plus horsepower on like methanol operated, blown v eights is like not the cheapest thing ever. Right. Really? Yeah. Surprising. Yeah. You know, 10 gallons of methanol and uh, two tires for basically one minute of action is, uh, you know, that's just your, that's your entry level hard cost.

It's actually was surprising to me that it's taken this long for like. Aussie style burnout comps to become something in America. Yeah. 'cause like we have forever had burnout comps. Yeah. But they're like usually like standstill sitters.

Mm-hmm. Like that was the thing. Um, it didn't have like the style or the violence that Australia does so Well, I have a theory on that though. But, but like, I, I, it's interesting for me because when we first started, Hoonigan is really when I discovered like the Aussie burnouts.

'cause we were just always looking for stuff to post. And this is like 2011, you know, 2012 ish. And we had multiple conversations with the Nats guys, like being like, why, why don't you guys do something here?

And it just never really clicked. But it seems like, and then we did Burny Yard. But I think for us, like while the, while we thought that the Ossie cars were cool, our take on Burny yard was more like taking what we were doing in the actual 6 21 yard.

Yeah. And putting it on show. So it was more of like a variety act? It was, yeah. It was burnouts cool. But it was also drifting. It was also jumping shit. It was like, it was like, how can we do as much ridiculous stuff as possible in a skate park type environment?

Yeah. Which was was like a live variety show, but a live variety show. Yeah. But you guys are literally taking like the, the. Sort of Australian experience and americanizing it. Yes. So that's, that's an important part, right?

Because like, so. Obviously in the Australian Pro shows, like their rule sets are really strict, right? Like you can't touch a wall. They don't really like cars being on fire at like the, the big, those are like the two best parts.

Exactly. Wall taps and fire is why Burny Yard works. Exactly. And like, so what we wanted to do is like, hey, apply all the stuff we learned about like we showmanship. Right? Like it's really important.

'cause like if an audience is gonna be sitting there for two, three hours at a time Yeah. Baking in the sun, you might as well give them something to sit there for, right? Yeah. Yeah. Like it needs to be entertaining and like also if somebody's gonna come and slam their car on the wall and stay in it, you know, like.

That's awesome. Right? If it doesn't ruin their run, if it doesn't like stop the flow of their action. Right. We don't dock 'em points on that. Whereas like Australia, you know, you cross and I've watched it happen.

I was actually in the car with Jake Meyers when he was on like an impeccable run and like the slightest corner of his Mustang went slightly over an invisible line where there would be a KRA and he got DQ from Summer Nats.

Right. And that's a, that's a massive bummer. Yeah. Which like it was a perfect run. Like that was, it was dope, right? Yeah. Yeah. So like that kind of stuff, you know, obviously we're a lot more lax on, you know what I mean?

But like we want the showmanship, we want like the people that are there to watch the show, to be able to be like, hell yeah brother. Right. Did you, and I think I may have asked you this last time, but.

I'll ask it to you again. Um, did you ever think when we were doing barnyard that this would like end up becoming like your business after Hoonigan that you were gonna take this on the road? No, but like I always wanted to take it on the road at Hoonigan.

Oh yeah. We all did. Right? Nailed did. Like, it was like, that was the dream and there was just little things in the way, right? Like obviously there wasn't the infrastructure to do it. Yeah, yeah.

Because everybody was doing like 10 other jobs. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you know, it basically you have to take everybody outta the office so you lose like a week or more Yeah. Worth of work and, and power and events are just like a special business.

Yeah. Like it's a, it's a special business that. I, I wish we had done more of 'em. It was always the want to do more of 'em. Um, but it's not as easy as it seems once you leave your local area. Yeah.

Like it was okay for, like, we were doing them monthly at Erwindale. Oh yeah. But we had infrastructure there. Mm-hmm. The minute you start going places where you don't have infrastructure, it's not the same thing.

Like you don't have, it just becomes, I know. 'cause this is what the world of film production is. Yes. It's like you're showing up and you're basically like, we're bringing the circus, but we need to rent the tent locally.

Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah. So having the infrastructure has helped out a lot. You know, that was like a big thing we did right outta the gate was like, invest in the actual infrastructure of the things that we needed to be able to like, bring everything, set up a show.

Yeah. Kick some ass, tear it down, take it back to Texas. Right. And uh, you know, like, luckily. Like Zach is great with logistics and you know, like that motherfucker doesn't stop working, right? So like, everybody's kinda like that.

Everybody's like got their own kind of lane in this thing that we do and handle our own individual like duties. And like, it's one of those, like, nobody will be outworked kind of scenarios. So we're just trying to figure out like, hey, like how do we keep kicking ass and like, how do we raise the bar every time and make it better and better?

So I'm, I'm pretty stoked on this stuff. How many events are you guys do this year? Right now, uh, we've got seven chambered and that are, you know, signed, sealed, and delivered on the schedule. And then, uh, I just got off the phone actually.

I just heard that Vyper is putting on a show. Big shout out to the boys, Vyper Industrial. That's Vyper with a y. Yeah. And uh, you know what? Like, that's, uh, it, it turns out that that is actually, uh, in an open weekend.

Actually we have like a, like a free month there. Yeah, I'd love to do that show. It looks, it looks like it's gonna be badass. I don't know if it's been publicly announced yet, so. Well it is now.

Yeah, hopefully, you know what, if we can get something going on that, that would be cool. And that's up in, uh, Wisconsin at their hq. Right. Oh, cool. Green Bay, I think, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So, I don't know. Those dudes seem rad. Those dudes are super rad. Yeah. So, yeah, I, I, I love working with them. They've been great. And um, like they were early, like in the Hoonigan days when they, when we first moved to six, uh, when we first moved to, uh, Compton.

Compton, yeah. Yeah. They like came out and like hung out. Like they came out to visit and then ended up hanging out the whole day. And that's like always been like the best partners of the guys who just like, don't leave.

You're like, oh, these guys are one of us. This is great. So like, you need a hand turn to reds. I mean, we don't have anything better. Yeah. Like always, always that. So, um, yeah. But, uh, but I was gonna say, I have a theory on why Australia was able to, to kind of accelerate and part of that is.

Australia has an insane rule set when it comes to driving laws and it's just gotten stricter and stricter. Yeah. Like, you know, you drive over there, there's cameras everywhere. You get tickets left and right, like they are super strict on it, so it's like you can't get away with doing shit on the street.

Right. There's no outlet for people. Mm-hmm. So like, their outlet is like, let's build the craziest fucking thing we can, and then like for this one weekend, we are going to send it to the moon and not give a single, it's like, that's like their, they get the dickhead out mm-hmm.

In just that one stretch of a weekend and then they can go back to normal life. Right. But it's all like condensed in, like it's boiling over up until that point. That's, that's my theory on it. The, the thing I learned about Australia from filming there and, and being there quite a bit this year is that it doesn't matter.

Who you are in Australia, you have a certain amount of chaos in your heart. Yeah. Right. Like you, I, we would be talking to people who would seem so square and then they would just kind of like bring you to the side and be like, I can't wait to watch you guys jump this.

You're like, wait, what? Like, you're like a city count. Like everybody wanted to see mayhem. Oh yeah. Like it didn't matter if it was like the environmental control person. It didn't matter if it was like the head of the city.

Like they, some of them were like, I have to say no, but like. I really want this to happen. So like maybe it's a, maybe like, it's just interesting that they are, you know, it just 'cause they're convicts at heart I guess.

But like, yeah, listen, you know what, when, when that prison ride kicks off brother, okay, you gotta ride for your side. You know what I'm saying? I love Australia though. I mean like complete side thing.

I think it's one of the few places I've been where I'm like, I could see living here. Like there's other places I wouldn't mind living for like a year or two, like in Europe. Mm-hmm I'm like, I don't think I could spend the rest of my life there.

Like Australia. I'm like, other than that, the rules on cars do kind of suck on the streets, but like everything else is pretty damn cool. They do do an exceptional job when it comes to building really nice stuff.

Yeah. Like been spending a bunch of time with uh, Adam roas, you know, NPW performance, right? Mm-hmm. And he's helped me out a ton on my Tahoe and he's actually coming out here to do, I guess he's gonna go Tous event.

Well. Summer Nats, USA. Yeah. And then, uh, he's like, can I just come by? We'll just like, get your Tahoe fully dialed in. I was like, yeah, dude. Yeah, sure. Yeah. But like the, you know, the shit he builds, like when they were running the Dino competition at summer, NATS it, like his car, his Capri that was on the small motor did like 3,700 horsepower on the Dino and they have it set up for drag drive.

Mm-hmm. It's a 572 cubic inch big block, two gigantic turbos. And it's like a really cool setup with like, you know, two fuel systems, dry break, and then they have like a J pipe system where they'll run it Na, for like driving around.

It makes like a thousand horsepower na go figure. And that's a small motor, right? Like apparently it's got like a 5 98 or something like that. Don't quote me. I, I could have that cubic inch wrong, but like they have like a nastier motor for it.

That's basically whatever. But that car does like six second quarter miles on two, let's see, 2 85 radials. 2 95, something like that. Damn. Yeah. Maybe it's even a 2 75. I don't know. I I don't have the data sheet in front of me, but like, it's fucking sad.

It's impressive Is the point you're going for. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It, it fucks so, and then they had like a lineup of other guys, but it's all like, uh, all the motors were built by, uh, Frank Dandy, you know, he seems to be like the, Hey, you wanna make some real power and fucking party?

Cool, dude. It's crazy how wild the, the power stuff has gone. So the other day, uh, well first I guess we should just jump into it, which is, um, I'm gonna, it's not even fixed 'cause like the nova works.

It runs, but, but like, it needs to be dialed. We're, we're dialing in the, I've been begging you for like seven years to I know. Get that car running, brother. I know, I know. There's been a lot of other things going on, but, but, uh, Zach and I have been talking and we've been talking about.

Having, bringing the Nova to his shop to finish it out, because I just won't see it through for multiple reasons. But hey, at least I'm, at least I'm being honest, I'm becoming self-aware. Um, but the thing that was I thought was really interesting was, was a text message you sent me the other day.

So we've been like going back and forth on like all the things that need to be done, right. And like right now, like the car, like I, it would probably fire right now. That would probably have a bad idea 'cause it's been sitting for three years.

But it would fire, it would run. Um, it, it just needs all of the last, it's not even the last 10%. It's like the last like 5%, maybe 3%, always. It's always the hardest part. It's always part, anything's like, like the.

I need to fabricate some plates to hold, like the ECU, which is just like dangling under the dash. Like I need to like route some stuff better. Um, actually Jameson handled a bunch of the plumbing stuff before it left Tuni again.

So like, there's a few of those things got taken care of, but there's just a bunch of stuff. And then there's things that like, need to make it livable. Like some vintage air, air conditioning would be sick.

AC is a must. I know that car is boiling hot. 140 degrees is what it is at, at idle. Like inside? Yeah. Just from the, all the temp just coming through. That's just pretty much what it sets at.

Yeah. So, um, but anyway, it is, uh, you know, so it, it's one of those things where I'm like. I know it'll get, I know it'll be the motivation to get it done if you have it because you have zero, um, you have zero chill when it comes to bothering me.

Yeah, like that. You're just good at that. Like you're good at, okay. Scotto hasn't replied. I'm just gonna show up at his house. So like, it's like, okay, if, I mean you came here for this podcast, just let yourself in and just came in and he was just sitting in my living room.

So, you know, there's, boundaries are just a thing you don't, that aren't like a, first of all, I was on time. Okay. Whatever you asked me to be here. Okay. Okay. Well let's go back to it.

So, with the Nova though. You texted me the other day and you said, uh, what do you think about a 500 shot of nitrous on this Nova? Yeah, you said, because it's a Pat Musi motor. It's a pat Musi motor, and it needs that kind of power.

The reality is, is it makes like 600, 700, which is really plenty for that car. See? Yeah. You are part of the problem, Zach. You're part of the problem because not everything needs a thousand horsepower.

That Nova is plenty fun at 600, 700 horsepower. I'm sure it's great. I've done 170 miles an hour in that thing. Do you have any idea how terrifying that is in that vehicle? It's got plenty of power.

It goes, it goes all day. Now imagine this, but, but like, but imagine it, you know, two 20, you know what I'm saying? Like that, that cars No, I have no interest in going that fast in that thing.

Sure, that's fine. But, but you know what it's like, okay, listen, uh, you know, in those, those rare moments Yeah. Where somebody rocks up to you and you're like, damn. I might need to kick that kid on a little bit.

You know what I mean? Like, show these youngins. What's what's good, because you know what the worst thing would be getting GA by a civic. Yeah. Well, it was the, so, well, I mean, nowadays civics are also fucking down so much power.

But the, the crazy thing is though, is when I got that engine, which was like 2016, so 10 years ago. 10 years ago, right? A decade ago, like that was a big power car. Oh yeah. It was 700 horsepower, six 50, whatever.

I don't, I never dino it. But coming around 700, um, that was like a big power car. A thousand horsepower wasn't the norm anymore. Now it's like thousands seems to be like the new, like it's your benchmark.

It's like the benchmark of like the start. Like you're not even on the board unless you make a thousand horsepower. But I remember at one point I was talking to someone and they were like. Well, you know, pat Musi didn't like really intend that motor to be Na, like he expected you to put like a blower on it, two turbos and nitrous.

I was like, oh yeah, yeah, good point. He's like, that's not what that was intended for. And I'm like, yeah, it still rips as an na engine. I mean, look, if you look at, uh, you know Pat's lineage, right?

Yeah. What does he always excelled in? Like big swinging dick nitrous. Yeah. Yeah. I'm all for it because the thing I like about nitrous is it doesn't change my day to day drivability of the car, like putting a big 8 71 blower on it while it looks cool.

Like, just like sitting in traffic with like blower surge. Like not as much fun like the nitrous. This is where you and I differ. I mean I get what you saying. I get what You're older. I get what you're, you saying it becomes with something you're less likely to drive.

'cause you do remember the era at Hoonigan where I used to like, I would daily drive the Nova for like, I'd be like, this is daily, have the Nova month and I would daily drive the Nova every day for a month.

And then I wouldn't drive it for like five months, but mostly because it would drain your bank account because of the fuel cost. Yeah. It gets like four and a half miles a gallon. We all living in Venice then, right?

Yeah. So it's like 30 miles. I would have one way I'd have to fill up to get back to Venice. Yeah. Yeah. I mean's big blog live brother. Yeah. You know what I mean? You know you gotta pay to play.

Exactly. But it sounds sick when you're just sitting there chopping at idle, throwing gasoline at the valves. Yeah. But this is, this is all part of the, does it run series, which is like, there are cars that I need to fix.

Mm-hmm. And the, the Nova is 100% in my top five. Which is crazy to say 'cause I really haven't paid any attention to it in the past five years. I know. It's been, you know, it's sad. 'cause like that was, that was one of my favorite, I I call it a brand car.

I mean, it's your car, but like, yeah. Yeah. You know, it was a huge thing for the, the, the real kickoff when, you know, Hoonigan started getting into more normalish, like, hey, like everyday human content, not just like Gymkhana level stuff.

Right. And the fact that you guys did, uh, it was a power tour, right? You did power tour 2015 and 2016. Yeah. So now we're at like the 10 year anniversary of that. And, you know, I don't, I, as you know, I don't think I've, I've made this public yet, but, uh, you know, I've.

I might have procured the 6 32 Camaro and pulled the engine out of it to, so, yeah. in the, mm-hmm. In an episode. Um, so when you say procured, is it like yours, yours now? Or is it like a weird, like joint custody?

Like what, what do we possession's? Nine tenths ownership. Okay. Now I, there's probably no title for it, so. Well, technically there isn't, as a matter of fact. Uh, but it was one of those things where, you know, we did SEMO with Hoonigan, right?

Yeah. And. It worked really good. Right. Like it, we kicked ass and they were like, Hey, this is awesome. It was great. It was great. And I was like, listen, we should do stuff together. Right. You guys need to be doing builds, like the brand needs to kick some ass.

Right. But like, one thing is you can't, I, I found out that they had that Camaro sitting in the back of a warehouse. Uh, it apart. Yeah. All parts kind of are. Yeah. Yeah. And I was like, does this run?

And nobody had touched it in years since Vinny, uh, you know, sent a valve into the, uh, number two cylinder. Um, forgot about that. Yeah. Yeah. It was pretty sick. Actually, I got a video of that too.

It was, uh, um, uh, Jason that's doing his, uh, photo shoot. Yeah. Anyway, but, um, so Oh, that's what it was for. Yeah. Right. The Ink Magazine. Ink Magazine was doing the Jason Ellis shoot. Yep.

And they were like, we need some burnouts. And we were like, oh, pull that out. Yeah. Which is the best because we basically, we basically blew a motor. Yes. For something that wasn't even our content or anyone ever saw on our side.

Dude, it sounded so sick though. I was like, when I, I, I remember I was, I started filming as I was running outside because I was like, it sounds like it's doing 9,000 rpm, right? Right now. It was, and it doesn't, it shouldn't turn that fast.

So I figured something, I think Vinny at that point had like, already wrote his resignation letter and was just waiting to hand it in. So, Hey, that's, Hey, that's a great way to drop the mic. Yeah.

So he was like, whatever. Yeah. Uh, by the way, Jason's shooting a flame thrower for this photo too. Look, look. Awesome. I'll send that video to you. Yeah, yeah. And get, and drop it in here. But yeah.

Anyway, but so I got, uh, a crew of really bad motherfuckers together. Uh, so right now the motor's up at, uh, Samir's shop at Grom Racing. Mm-hmm. Who built Matt Field's really crazy C eight motor and he's.

Really dial when it comes to NA stuff. So the goal is, I mean, I'm, I'm giving all this away. When there's supposed to be a whole series, you know, that's going on. That's right. Whatever, yeah. Different audiences.

Yeah. So the goal is like, Hey, can we make a turn? 8,000 RRP M maybe 85 would be, what was it? What was it spinning before? Was it just like 60? It 65 or seven? It was supposed to spin. Spin at seven.

And when you look at the valve train and the geometry on everything and the components used, right? Yeah. Like they didn't really want it going higher than that. And really it was kind of restricted by the intake manifold being a little on the small side for that motor.

Just to rewind a bit, 'cause a lot of people who listen to this might not be that familiar with the 6 32. So the 6 3 2 was a new big block design, but it was just really new heads Yes. On the, a classic Yeah.

Big block architecture. Exactly. Which was, was it a rat big block? Like is there basically like a, uh, a, uh, a mark four. Right. Okay. But, but, but like the tall deck, bow tie block, but the, all the structures, but the heads were massive.

Yeah. And the heads were supposed to breathe a ton, so Yeah. The heads were based off of, uh, so it's the Chevrolet RSX head. Right. And that stands, oh god, I can't remember that dude's name, but you can probably drop it in here.

But it was a pro stock head. It was designed. Four pro stock in the eighties. Right. And then right after that thing came out, pro stock changed the rules to allow a spread board design. So basically the head was rendered kind of like obsolete for pro stock.

They still kept the head in its original form in the catalog and it was mostly used for blown alcohol. Uh, like marine applications, right? Yeah. It's a symmetrical port head. It's ju where all good big blocks go.

Exactly. Symmetrical port head it, you know, had great flow numbers, but they used that as the basis for the architecture for it. So what they did was they basically rotated the valves a little bit. They changed the valve angle, so it's like a 12 and a half degree intake valve and an eight, uh, eight and a half degree exhaust valve, uh, uh, angle.

And they change the ports a little bit and they rotate it so they can get the spark plug right at the center of the cylinder. Um, making it way more efficient. Right. And obviously c NNC programming is coming a long way too, right?

Mm-hmm. So that head. Just as it comes from Chevrolet, which you can't buy, you can't buy it with the ports that they do for that 6 32, but it'll flow 500 CFM with an like near an inch of lift when in the cam, right?

Not lobe lift, but total lift. Right. Um, and you know, we got that motor. That was the very first. Like pre-production Chevrolet 6 32. So it's actually when you look at the stamps and, and then I actually, uh, scan the val, uh, the head at JE pistons so we can get like an idea of like what the chamber looks like.

Mm-hmm. So we can get a, get ahead of the curve and designing pistons and stuff for it, because it does need some new pistons because a valve just, you know. Ding, ding ding. Thanks. Um, but, uh, and obviously, you know, we want to turn more rpm so there's some like things that need to be done, like gas boarding and stuff like that.

Um, but like we noticed that there's a few differences in like the head that came on the production motors. Versus that one. Right. Like, so the chamber size is actually a little bit bigger in the one that we have.

And then there's a couple other like little things that are slightly different. Right. Also ours came with like Crower tool, seal rockers, whereas like the, the ones that got produced or sent out to people.

Yeah. 'cause ours was pre-production. Yeah. Development. Well, they didn't expect to sell as, they expected to sell like, I think like 14 or 15 of those. And then as soon as we, there were a thousand horsepower crate engines for like 30 grand and when, as soon as we did the launch for 'em, they sold like 65 of 'em on the first day.

Oh wow. So it was successful. That's good to know. Then they were like, oh shit. And because yeah, I think this is 2021. Yeah. Like, uh, it's hard to get supply line materials Yeah. And stuff like that.

So it wound up going to like a gessel aluminum shaft, mount rocker or some other stuff. So not a bad rocker, but like not. You know, there's room for improvement. Yeah. So yeah, the, anyway, the, so the setup we're doing, you're, we're really looking forward to, uh, making some badass stuff.

But we gotta redesign an intake manifold to have twin 4,500 flange, uh, throttle bodies on it. 'cause it just won't suck enough air. Like the volumetric efficiency is like, gotta be that dead on for NA motor.

Mm-hmm. So we wanted to make more power and we do want to use it for drag and drive stuff. So like, it would be cool if we can get the Nova together. And then that together at the same time and actually do like power tour or just do our own.

Mm-hmm. Which would be like way, which is, which is a conversation I wanna bring up. But Yeah. Keep going. Yeah, I was gonna say, 'cause we, we kind of roll a little bit slower, you know, uh, usually when we go on a trip it takes a lot longer to do stuff, you know, because filming and, you know, and breaking, yeah.

Doing roadside filming and breaking, I mean, that's pretty much like if you were to narrow down our experiences together, filming and breaking. Yeah. Pretty much it, you know, it should take like two and a half hours to get an Ensenada from uh, here and ours are always like 12 hours, you know, this is Vinny's big joke is if Vinny's like, bro, I thought Mexico was seven hours away.

It's like, I didn't realize it was only an hour and 40 minutes. Yeah. He's like, it just the in Hoonigan time, it takes like seven hours to get there. Well, it's you coming up with like cockamamie ideas, like along the trip like, oh, we should stop here.

Like, oh, we should get a tire here. Oh, we should like change the ball joints, uh, in this gas station, but we don't have a jack. So you guys just pick up the front end and, we'll, that was fun. That was actually kinda soon.

So we kept the title in it because we were just like, we'll just leave it in Mexico with the title in the glove box and somebody will come up on this and have a great day. Yeah. Right. So we were like, that was the first time around.

Yeah. We were like, then we made it nicer. Yeah. We made it like a class like five buggy. Yeah. And it was kind of fun. And now it's like, full blown dude. We're, we're outta king of the hammers and we are jamming in these three and four foot, whoops.

At like 90 miles an hour in this thing. I shit you not like it's. The most excited and terrified I've been in the vehicle. I saw the clip you posted. It looked crazy because I did about 40 miles an hour in the, whoops.

Down in San Felipe, and we almost flipped the thing. Yeah, you almost cartwheeled. Yeah. It was pretty tight. Yeah, it was pretty sick. I was, I was doing the roller shot from the side. Yeah, I remember.

I was like, oh, here, here we go. We're getting, we're video and Scotto are gonna be airlifted, but they're gonna have to, uh, argue over who gets the airlift because both of you're too damn tall. The worst scenarios and road trips for us are usually that. Yes. Right. So that, that's one. I think it needs to be a road trip struggle. You need struggle. Mm-hmm. A good story is struggle. Right?

Yeah. I realized that not everyone would be available for the whole road trip. So I think we fly certain people in just for a day. Like KAA is not signing up for seven days, but he could come on for a leg of the trip.

So we like pick him up at one airport and then like drop him off at the end because, and, and then there's other people like Brad, like Brad needs to be here, but no one else wants to be with Brad for a week.

I'm not saying Brad ain't coming for a week, I'm saying nobody wants to spend a week with Brad. But like two days of Brad is pretty good. Like, he's like cayenne pepper, like in the right proportions of seasoning.

It's cool. I'm not gonna snort it though, you know what I'm saying? More I, I'd say closure to vinegar, but Okay. Yeah, sure. Whatever. But like, and then, but then there's like the guys, like the, the sort of, what I would say, like the core, core group.

Like we're all down to spend a week together. Right. Yeah. Hert's. Probably too busy now. Like, I don't know. He is like, he's like, like a celebrity. He is like a rapper. I'm not really sure anymore, but like, he'll probably come for a few days, you know?

Hert. You got time. Yeah. He'll, he'll, he'll probably make time for it. So make time for the boys. But here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking it's like a week long trip. 'cause it, it can be multiple episodes of content.

Like I, I think you do like a, an episode a day or something like that. Like you, if we're gonna do it, we should do a thing or we just make it like a feature. Like it's like just an hour and a half long.

17 hour long. Yeah. Full length. Full length. Here's thing. Straight theatrical release. Yes. Yeah. It has to be. Okay. So, no, and actually I'm not even joking about the theatrical release. 'cause I think it would be cool to make something like this and even just rent like a theater in LA and just like invite everybody to come out for it.

I think it should be a drive-in. Drive-in would be perfect. There's one right here in Paramount. Really? Yeah. In Compton. Didn't know that. Yeah. Paramount's just the fancy name for Compton. Okay.

Um, but so I think like doing something like that would be super cool. Okay. But here's a couple concepts for it. First off, this is the hundredth anniversary of Route 66 This year, um, I think Power Tour is actually doing a piece of Route 66.

I think there's other people doing stuff, but to your point before we kind of always go our own way. I think we just do it for us a hundred years of Route 66. And because of that they've spent millions on like fixing a bunch of Route 66.

So they have fixed, you know, like neon lights, like they've opened up like hotels that have been motels and stuff that have been closed. Right. So like a punch of those used to. Cool. I'm not saying that we should spend the whole time over at 66 'cause that doesn't add enough adventure, but I think there's a couple pieces along the way we could go.

My thought is. Where's the shittiest parts of Route 66? Because that's gonna need to be driven on and also experienced. Yeah. Right. And like you wanna show the grit and then if you're gonna fly people in like caca, right?

Like some, there needs to be at least one, or all the vehicles need to be really uncomfortable. Yeah. So that's where I was getting at with that. Here's some of the thoughts on the cars. Here's what I think we should do.

One, nothing's better than a shitbox rally. Yeah. It's just that's where, that's where like real true grit is shown, but I don't think people should be allowed to buy their own shit boxes. Oh. So you gotta basically like, here's what I was thinking.

A hat and in the hat is everyone's name and then someone pulls that name and then they have to assign a car to that person. So either we already pick all the cars and then like that person has to assign it.

So like for me, like I would love to pull Hert's name. Mm-hmm. And I would love to put Hert in something that I know he's really not going to enjoy. Or it may turn him into that person. He might be like, you know what, this is what I want.

So you're basically like buying the car that may a stereotypical for use. Like I'd buy like a shitty Audi for Hert to have to drive or something with no air conditioning. 'cause I know like that's really what would bum him out.

Yeah. Like you'd probably buy a ship box that had like a big block and a blower on it, even though it would barely run just because, you know, whatever. I, I, I'm not, this is your decision, it's not mine.

But I kind of like the idea that like, like you are at the mercy of your. Your once co-host who like wants to like exact a little like revenge. I like that. You know? And get that out there. I think.

I think too, if it's, you could also swap cars every day. That's another option. So that way every day is a different experience in a different car. And you can pre break cars for people. 100%. Yeah.

Like it, like right before you're pulling into the hotel, nothing but rev limiter now roadside fixes. Right. How is this taken care of? Is it like a, I think, I think. To be smart. We have to have, we have to have like a, like a, a sweep car.

Yeah. So I think a truck with a trailer that has like the toolbox on it and everything just drives behind us. I just did this, um, like rally, I went, rally's such a weird word for it, but like a car show drive event.

Mm-hmm. Called Tre Punks. And we had Big Rich come on the trip. Yep. And he drove a, a truck with a trailer with all the tools. Luckily nothing broke down, but it was so much more like confidence inspiring to be like, if I break down, he's probably only two or three hours behind us.

So he would like, we would get on the road and then he would leave and follow us slowly, so that way, like he could catch us later. We did the same thing in Iceland where we drove those stupid Coleman mini bikes across the uh, country.

Oh, I forgot about that. Yeah. It also keeps it going. Yeah. Like, I think you have to have, but like, there should be demerits. Yes. Because getting on the trailer should cost you something Exactly.

Like maybe a front windshield. Ah, I like that. You know what I'm saying? Like, your car gets fixed. Like there should be levels of it. If you can fix your own car, like then you're fine. Yeah. Like this whole thing should be a point system.

So, but if you have to have the mechanic who's riding along in the back, fix it for you. And we probably need to get into teams. I don't think it's singles. I think you need teams. 'cause it's more fun and banter in the cars.

There should also be, uh, on the point system, right? Like, 'cause you don't, if, if people know that we're gonna be able to like get a car and basically bone somebody with it, right? Like if the car you set somebody up with is just completely set up for failure, you should have to like lose points for that.

So there has to be some sort of like checks and balances. Otherwise it's gonna be, you know, you being like, here's this Audi that is impossible to work on and find parts for. Yeah, no, we have to think through that.

Yeah, we have to think through that as well. What it could be though is it could be that someone else goes and picks all the cars. Right. And like does a little bit of like, and then the cars get assigned by the other person.

Yeah. So like someone who's like more reasonable, like they could be told the type of car that is needed, but then they have to go like, get it, drive it like a Suppy, right? Yeah. Like someone who's gonna be like, all right, this car is like decent.

I don't know if Suppy is the best person for that. Subie will 100% set people up for failure because it's hilarious. Yeah. It's so totally true. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Another thing too, Subie lives his life just to watch others moan.

Yeah. Another thing is be important is like, we can't do this all on the road, right? There has to be segments where it's like you're putting cars through scenarios where they're definitely no, no 100%.

Route 66 is just, um, a suggestive route, but there has to be off-road route 66.6. Ooh. Route 66.6 is the name of the trip. Yeah, it's the, it's Route 66.6. Because it is The Devil's Ride. Yes.

Yeah. I like that. The, um, they, the, the name's already starting to name themselves 'cause it's like devil's ride out. Like we get all of that. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Straight to hell. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

'cause I thought you, I was 30 when we started that show. My 30th birthday was the very first shoot we ever did. How many spring breaks have you been to? 11 consecutively. You know, you're really only supposed to go like twice.

Well, like junior year and like maybe senior year. I really like spring break brother. And the last I clearly do, the last one was I was taking my little brother, who's 11 years younger than me on his first spring break.

Right. So it's, it's like his chaperone, but I wanna break in my neck. Wait, you broke your neck? Broke my neck in Mexico. Doing what? Just being blackout drunk and trying to lead a Braveheart style charge of like all these like, uh, probably like college kids into the ocean where like all these like guards with machine guns we're like trying to chase us down to stop us going into the ocean.

'cause basically it's like in Cancun there's always like in spring it's all like red and black flag days. So there's like gnarly undertow. Yeah. And I'm like, don't let these fucking guys try to tell you to live their life.

So I'm like sprinting out in the ocean. It's like really shallow for a long rate. And so I'm like full sprint. I see a wave. I could feel it starting to dip in. And so I'd go to duck dive into the wave and just smoke my top of my head on a rock and I can feel all of 'em.

I could hear it too 'cause I'm underwater and I hear all the verbiage go, oh, all the way to my tailbone. And I got pitched up and lucky, like I just landed on my feet, but I hit it like a limp noodle 'cause I was, you know, probably like 13 hours deep into tequila shots.

Right. And uh, I just remember like walking in like low ciento. No moss, you know, like, and I just went and like chilled in the, at a jacuzzi for a while and then I like slept on like a do Equis can under my neck.

And then when I got back I, um, I went to this like, uh, this Russian guy that did all my rehab for a motorcycle accident and he like, he's like, we should probably X-ray, you know, it'd be safe. He's like, oh yeah, you broke your, uh, C five.

And I was like, uh, is there something I need to do for that? And he's like, well, you, here's the thing. You either like fracture it like you did with a compression fracture and you know, everything's decent.

You just can't be a dickhead for a while or you just be paralyzed. So probably smart to not do anything stupid for six to eight weeks. Mm. Did you, um, did you have a neck brace or anything, or No?

No, because he is like, listen, you don't, just don't do anything ex, you know, like. Like lifting weights or like, you know, like action sports for a while. 'cause like, you know, you want the muscles to Yeah.

Stay strong. Did you have any nerve damage from it? Uh, sometimes like, uh, I would have like problems in my right arm. Yeah. You know, 'cause the, she, I, I herniated C six. Yeah. And I, and I have the same thing.

I, I don't know if you remember when I like lost all feeling in my right hand. Yeah. I couldn't, we'd be like filming build stuff and I'd have to have someone, I'd be like, I literally can't wrench with my right hand.

Yeah. I had, I had to be your hand for a while. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You, those were weird episodes. Yeah. But you know, it was whatever you just see Zach's hand crawl in Anyway. Listen, you know what you gotta, you gotta do what it takes to get that paycheck brother.

Sometimes it's a handy. Yeah. Anyway, so moving back to the original concept. So I, I, I like where we're going with this because I do think like every day should have its own sort of like thing we have to compete in.

Mm-hmm. So it could be like, like hands straight off. We have to run a dirt oil track. Going to run a dirt oval track. 'cause like one people who own dirt oval tracks, like Australians have chaos in their hearts.

Yes. But I'm pretty sure they're gonna let us show up. Um, we obviously should go do some sort of drag racing or something. Right. Um, but then it becomes a question of like, like, but I think we need to build a ridiculous point system so that the fastest car doesn't just win the event.

Yeah. Because it also has to just be like, there, there. It has to be like classic scumbag where like, Uhhuh, what are you willing to do with it? Yeah. And I think that honestly it needs like a section of like kind of aggressive, like, you know, when when we did, uh, this verse that off road and we set up the whoop section 'cause we knew that would kind of like, you know, send a Jeep onto its roof.

Yeah, I remember that. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. One of the craziest moments we've ever had. I love that happened directly after the do after the raptor went straight to flat. It was, and right before that episode, I was like, man, it would be so sick if we recreated that original Gen one Raptor video.

We totally did. The worst part is, is the dude did a test run and nailed it. Perfect. And nailed it. And then just during the race was like, I'm gonna go flat, even though they told me not to go flat.

The thing about Red Mist, I know it is, it is. I've, I've been there. I've, but yeah, so if we have something to kind of like, you know, uh, 'cause obviously if a car is real fast in a straight line, you know, and it's, it's able to stay stable, that's great.

But like, once you start introducing things like big ass bumps and like mm-hmm. Uh, you know, things we might have to handle, you know, it's gonna. It's gonna be the, um, the, the balance point, right?

Yeah. Also, uh, but I also think like, really bad, um, repercussions for doing something bad, right? Like, like losing a front windshield. I don't know if you've ever driven a car without a front windshield.

I have for a long period of time. It sucks. Now see, you know, I, for forever, I didn't have a car and I'd only rode motorcycles and choppers and shit. So like, you know, it's not the worst thing for, for me it's, but it's hobby.

Worse in a car. Don't know what it is. I think it has something to do. The faring does, like, there's no faring. It just, especially if you don't have a front window, but all the other windows exist in the car.

Oh, then you get the, yeah, you have to roll all the windows down because otherwise it's just like you're just driving a scoop. Oh. So wait, what if the thing is, it's like you lose your front windshield, but you can't roll any of your windows down.

Don't even know. That's, I think you would just, I think you would eventually blow the back window outta the car, which is great for Camerara. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So let's, let's try that. Yeah.

Uh, another thing too we should try doing is like, uh, uh, like introducing other things into it. So like, I don't know if it's like a, like a relay race kind of deal, or if it's like a, I hate to use the word, um, scavenger hunt, right?

No. I like scavenger hunt though. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But like a, you know, for lack of a better term, a scavenger hunt of things that Right. You know, is relevant to kind of like what we're doing.

Right, right, right. Yeah. Like the, like the breast milk of a virgin Ethiopian. Yeah. Or like, you gotta like procure an unregistered firearm. Yeah. Anyway, um. Yeah, I, so this is all good. How long?

I think distance is gonna be good, but I don't, it can't be too far because Yeah, I don't think like, like so Route 66 goes from Chicago to Santa Monica. I think that's entirely too far. Yeah. And plus really boring for most of it until you get past Colorado.

Yeah. Shamrock Texas to California could be cool, but it might also still be too far because Shamrock Texas is where we filmed Jim Conna 10. So there's like some history there, which would be kind of cool.

And I also like. I know the people in Shamrock pretty well. I'm pretty sure we convinced them to let us do some real dumb shit in at the airfield or some other stuff there. Like there could be a value there.

What if we did a leapfrog too? Like, so it's like we do like a, a certain segment of it because like realistically, Texas is so fucking big. Yeah. Like I was doing 155 on the cruise control for like six hours to the point where my transmission 27 years ago, past the past, the statute of limitations.

Keep going. Don't fuck, don't, don't snitch on yourself. The transmission was getting so hot that I like stopped over and I stopped and I'm like, okay, I just need, and I took a look and I was like, how do I have like eight more hours of Texas?

And I like, this was like, I was already halfway through Texas when I started that in the morning, like five in the morning. And I ran for basically till noon. And then I was like. How, because I've been like cooking.

Yeah. Well, route 66 is 2,400 miles in total from Chicago to Santa Monica. Mm-hmm. So, um, there's just certain sections. Like I know New Mexico has put a ton of money into improving Route 66. I definitely think like New Mexico.

Cool. It's also like visually New Mexico is pretty dope. So is Arizona. Um, but I do think we need like that Oklahoma element of it too. I got some fun friends in Oklahoma that, yeah. There's a lot of good stuff in Oklahoma.

Yeah. Isn't that um, like offroad, that like offroad facility in Oklahoma. Jay, Oklahoma. MidAmerica Outdoors. Yeah. MidAmerica Outdoors. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah. Fucking wild man. And it's like.

There's a lot of cool stuff there. They actually dumped a bunch of money into like developing that place. I mean, just like the roads alone were like 6 million bucks, 5 million bucks, something like that.

Right. But man, people don't realize how much it costs to move dirt. Yeah. But uh, yeah, they got a lot of cool stuff. Like, uh, you know what? I think doing a Barbie down or the Barbie Jeep downhill run somewhere along the line of that.

Mm-hmm. It would be very fun too. It might mess some guys up, but, you know, look, we can also certainly include friends, like, like people can, I think this has to be like, there's a group of us who sign up for the whole thing.

Right. Like in the power tour world, they call those long haulers. Yeah. Hoonigan called it wrong haulers 'cause we always did shit wrong. But like, there's like that group who's on for the whole thing and then there's obviously so Hoonigan or you know, old Hoonigan guys who can't make it for the whole thing.

Yeah. Or like a summit racing, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which has a distribution center in Vegas. They have one in Texas. They've got obviously their headquarters in Ohio. Yep. Right. And we actually, and SC P's got a spot in Arizona.

You see old cars, they're like a box of chocolates full of surprises. The big surprise being, will it get me home today or will it burn to the ground like this one time where my wife called me and said, Hey, I think you left the lights on the rabbit.

I said, cool. Can you turn 'em off? She said, yeah, they're not turning off. She pointed out it was only the rear lights. I said, you know what? Maybe the brake pedal stuck. Give it a good yank. Nope, that didn't fix it.

I said, don't worry. I'll deal with it when I get home. Seven hours later I got out to inspect and am greeted by that. Oh, so familiar smell of an electrical fire If you're a Volkswagen owner, you understand?

Luckily I caught it when I did and it didn't burn down the rabbit, my house and all the other cars that are in it. So that coming weekend I had plans for the rabbit, which meant I need to get it back on the road.

Headed over to fcp euro.com. Found the switch. It was about 10 bucks and they had it to me in two days. Because remember they've got two warehouses, one in Arizona, one in Connecticut. So no matter where you are in the US they can get parts out to you really quickly.

I'm doing good by me for years. Yeah, I will say that if you were to pick your own car, mm-hmm. Right? Like if, if maybe you just picked your own car. As much as I love the idea of. Driving a European car and that feels so true to me.

Something that you can buy parts at Napa for Yeah. Is probably the move. Like, honestly. 'cause there's a Napa, every little small town has a Napa. Like honestly, something like a, like a Caprice or like a uh, like a Ford, like a Crown Victoria would probably be the most efficient vehicle to do.

Yeah. Like a Crown Vic cop car would make the most sense. Yeah. You know what else would be a good one? Um, is an e conne line. They made like millions of those and they're everywhere. Yeah, definitely.

I wouldn't like, you know, not so fast, but can be fun and real world drive. I mean, I don't know, given your, uh, past couple weeks with the Conne lines, man, Mike, it's been a tough run. It's been a tough run recently, but, uh, the, uh, but I did smoke Larry Chen's Porsche in the Conne line once and that's all that really matters.

Damn Larry. Yeah. Come on now. So, yeah, I, I like that idea and I like the, if, if we can, you know, I, we're gonna need to have some sort of parts store. To just give us some clearance to be like, these guys are, and actually the parts store would be kind cool.

'cause then you could do PAOs at parts stores, which like, makes, makes sense for people. No, that, that would be the point. Like, I like this by the way, this, even though we are obviously are aware that you guys are listening, this is kind of how we used to come up with ideas back in the day.

Oh yeah. Because it's like, come up with the idea and then immediately figure out like how can we fund it? But then also what is the practicality of actually making this happen? Yeah, a hundred percent.

This is actually going better because like, we're in a focused scenario. Well it's, there's only two of us and we're not like, derailed when there's fucking nine of us in the room, everyone just fucking screaming at each other.

Like, oh, you know, this one time I'm dead. And Vinny's like, I'm not doing anything with Scotto. This sounds insane. I don't wanna do this. We're all gonna die in the desert. Perfect example of this, cut to the very first episode of Baja Misadventures when we were trying to plan for Baja for like 12 hours and all we got was like a, uh, a really bad drawing of Baja.

Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um. Yeah. No, I look, I, I like that. I think like each day could have like a special event and then the rest of it's just driving, which is kind of a bit like how one lap of America runs.

Like you go do your race, but then you still have to drive somewhere. Like, so you still just have to get the mileage in. Mm-hmm. Which if the race is like, early in the day, like you have to be careful because like if you break the car, you now have to fix the car Yep.

To get to the next checkpoint. Ooh. You know, what'd be hilarious is like if there was like an oil consumption, uh, clause, right? Like, so it's like if you're consuming too much oil right. Like you're, you're, you're, you know, like if you're going over like a quarter a day.

Yeah. So here's what every team has to look like, because as I think about this, more every team needs to be, uh, two people. Yep. Plus a camera person. Yep. Because the camera person needs to kind of help like tell that story.

And I think we should bring back, like, obviously, like, I think we need to bring back people like Kyle. Oh yeah. Like, dude. Yeah, like, like I think there's a bunch of people who would be great.

I mean, obviously all of the current, the, any of the, any of the shreds who are, who are there through the years, whether it's Diego or whoever, like Oh yeah. Also it would be hilarious to like, if somebody got a Miata and like that camera person has to strap themselves like a, like in like 1966 La Ma filming, you know, like there's like budget cord into the front of the Yeah.

Anyway. But, um, well we definitely need a camera car, but I also think like you need that person who's like going with every, like, 'cause each, per, each car is really its own story. Story producer, basically.

Yeah. You know? Yeah. Kind of runs that. Yeah. Um, and you can't just roll go Pros for like 10 billion hours. 'cause that's, no, that's just not like entertaining. No, no. Um, so you think it's four cars?

I think it's, yeah. It's at least four. Four to four to five cars. Yeah. With like two in each, and then like some people can swap out. Yeah. And then you have a, you have a camera support vehicle, and then you got an actual like service support vehicle.

Yeah. Ooh. What happens if two cars go down? You know? So like, probably all cars should have like a flat tow bar, just like Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Natively. But it's like if you wind up being like the second car down and then like if, uh, if you break and somebody else breaks, right?

Like there's, there's gotta be some sort of like, okay, now you gotta like, have like a game of Russian roulette. What, what if we actually, 'cause I'm trying to think of like, how do we incentivize everybody to really do this?

What if we put real money on the line? I like that. Like what if there was a, an actual money monetary, like reward at the end, but you also get fined along the way. Ooh. So now you gotta come outta the hole.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, yeah. What if we play for pinks? But it's like your, your house. Yeah. No, but I'm just saying like, not that level of like, you, you instantly go to a depravity level. That's just so intense.

But like, I'm just saying, man, put something on the line, brother. No, what I'm saying. Oh wait, pinks. 'cause everybody's got enough cars to where it's like, man, there's probably something in there you don't wanna lose.

Right? So it's like you gotta have something on the line. Right. That's your, that's your buy-in. But yeah. And then you got like, and if you, if you get to the whatever, you can't pay your, well, what if everyone's buy-in was just like, their was basically like, here's your payment for the trip.

Yep. Right. It's a week. Everybody's gotta make money. Right. Here's your payment and you are subject to not only lose that, but to win everyone else's payment. I like that. I like that. You know what I'm saying?

Like there's a like, and there's not maybe one winner. Maybe there could be multiple winners. It depends on how we like factor the rules. But you have to kind of think through that. But there's like you're like, it's like here's 10 grand if you make it to the end of this trip and you don't break any of the rules, maybe you get to keep your 10 grand, but other people can win your 10 grand back from you.

So someone could walk away with 70 grand. I like how shitty this is. This is 'cause this is good. It has to be shitty. Yeah. To convince all of us to do something together for that long. Like everyone is like barely down to come to my house for my birthday.

Like to convince everybody that they have to now like give up all of the sweetness that you all like. I look at Vinny's life and like. Vinny, I think has probably more work than he had in here again, but like, it's pretty chill.

Like, I've gone and done some filming with Vinny. It's like an hour and a half. And like at no point did I like, like was I underneath a car? Like with something broken? I never like really like broke a sweat.

Vinny's actually pretty good at, I never once thought that like, I might not ever see my family again. Those are the pieces that made Hoonigan great. Yeah. Was like, this might be the last trip you are ever on.

Yeah. Like, I'm definitely getting a divorce because I haven't been home in like 18 days. Yeah. Yeah. Like this is, and in order to do that, it has to have like some sort of like hunger games element to it as to why you wanna survive this.

You d Yeah. You need maximum risk with a slight hint of reward. Yeah. Like there's gotta be something. But I like, I like that idea. What was that? What was that movie? Was it like Rat Race? I think it was called Rat Race.

Did you ever see it was like a comedy? Mm-hmm. About like it was like a, it was like a retake on like the cannonball. Yeah. Yeah. But it was like really funny. But it has to be something like that. I like that because, because I think one, there has to be incentive for everybody on the trip that they feel like, and it can't just be like a thousand bucks.

Like it has to be more. Yeah. Because it has to incentivize everybody to, to like wanna push for it. And then there has to be losses because there needs to be real stakes to the audience that's like, oh shit.

Like this. They just lost out on that. Right. Yeah. I like the fact that like, you could go on this trip where you actually wind up having to pay money. Yeah. But you could win money. It could cost you money, but it could actually cost you some And you're not only losing your time, you've lost money too.

Yeah. I like, like I think that that works. And then. But the other thing I was thinking about is, is anybody writing this down? No. But um, luckily we're recording it. Cool. Yeah. Which is great, uh, to do a transcript of this through, uh, Chad, GPT or something.

Okay. So here's another thing I thought about because I, I, I keep going back to like, are the cars, like do you have the car the whole trip, or do you have to like, rotate through the cars? I kind of like this idea of like motor pool, where like in the morning, like you don't know what you're gonna get, but you could also earn your way into like a good car.

So like, we could actually get like a press loaner and like, you get to drive that day in like a brand new raptor. So like, like, which is such a, like, which in the middle of the summer, Uhhuh will be a massive reprieve.

Like you earn yourself. It's like. It's like, I don't know, like a reality TV show where you're like doing survivor level shit and then you get to sleep on a bed for a night. That exact, that was the exact premise of that whole Rrp m episode.

Mike was in a brand new, like second gen Rapid. They just came out. Yeah. And I had to drive this shitty KTM that was like sitting up beside a shed for like eight years and had like a cracked gas tank.

Yeah. So I was just getting covered in gas and we couldn't use roads or maps and we had to just do the whole thing off road because you need, you, you need like the overall incentive, which is like, Hey, you might win some money.

You're gonna win the Internet's love because you're gonna, you're gonna win. Um, but there has to be that day to day Yeah. Upside. Yeah. Yeah. Or maybe it's like you get actual food and you don't have to live off cliff bars.

Yeah. There's that. I like that part. It could also be that we have an RV travel with us. 'cause this is, this is actually real power to 2015, which is before you were there. We rented an rv 'cause we couldn't afford like the hotel rooms.

Mm-hmm. We were like the, there was, I think we did the entire trip on the road. For 5,000 bucks. Nice. Which is crazy 'cause we had like six people with us plus like fueling the Nova and fueling Jon Chase's car.

And so most of the, most of the budget went to fuel. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and feeding everybody, like it's just expensive to be on the road for a week. Right. And, but we like, we just couldn't factor in hotel rooms.

So what we would do is ev is every night we would get a hotel room so that we could park an RV in the hotel parking lot and all of our cars safely and one person or two people would get to sleep in the hotel room and everyone else would've to sleep in the rv.

That's actually way better than what we did. I mean, you were like, Hey, we're gonna go to Mexico by the way, we're gonna camp 'cause it's way more fun. Realistically, we don't have budget to do this, so we're just gonna wing it.

And, uh, yeah. Pretty much somebody dies in the desert. Not a big deal. Pretty much. Pretty much. Yeah. I actually really enjoyed the camping I part except for that when we woke up and realized that we were camping on the actual race path, Baha race path.

Yeah. That was cool. And a bike went like literally right past the tent. Yeah. By the way, uh, the one day we did try to get a hotel in San Felipe and, uh, all the water was coming outta the faucets just pitch black.

Oh yeah, yeah. That, but you remember that really sick, um, beach we found. Oh yeah. Of course. I went back to it for vacation once. Nice. It was like super sick beach. Yeah. Um, it went back on.

Remember we in the morning, we thought there were whales. Yeah. And it was just, it was just you snoring, just No, it was, um, uh oh. Uh, not, um, the, the fixer. Yeah. Yeah. Memo. Memo. It was memo.

Memo was snoring. Yeah. We all thought it, we all were like, is that a whale? Because it was like. Yeah. And like we were all in our tents and I heard someone else like, is that a whale? I'm like, is that a, I'm like, that was me.

We're on like the Sea of Cortez. Like there's no ocean here. There's whales there though. There's whales in the Sea of Cortez. Pretty sure there are. Yeah. I don't know. That sounds like a fact check.

Anyway. Yeah. Um, look that up. Okay, so back into it. Um, so I think like that, I think you need that, like there could be comfort because like, let's be honest at this point, like everyone is a fucking diva.

Mm-hmm. Like you've become a diva. Hert is 100% a diva. Vinny only drives Ferraris. And Porsches, he's full diva. Right? I'm old, which makes me a diva. Although I still love sleeping in a tent, but like taking away luxuries is a huge one.

'cause it could also be like, everyone who did this has to eat at McDonald's tonight, and then someone else gets to eat at a steakhouse. Okay. This almost feels like a 24 hour live stream. 'cause there's, there would just be so much going on.

I mean, that's, that's pretty good though. I like, I like the added, uh, the added elements of reward versus. Shittiness. Yeah. This the maximum shittiness I think is like gonna be, yeah. Yeah. How many days do you think we could, we could do before one?

It just becomes too long. I think five. Five is probably the maximum. I agree. 'cause then you know, too much footage. And also realize five days means at least two prep days. So like you're on the, you gotta fly out the day before you leave will be a prep day because we'll have to like set up all the cars.

Like I don't know which direction we're going it, it would be easier to go west to east, but that's like not the traditional 66 route. You normally go the other way. But it may just make more sense because then we don't have to fly somewhere and spend an entire day getting like cars prepped and stuff like that.

Mm-hmm. So you think going west to east is the move? I think going west to east is the move, just 'cause we could spend a little more time getting the cars sorted before we all hit the road. Otherwise somebody has to go out to whatever the spot is that we start at and get all the cars.

Purchased and assembled. And honestly, it's probably just easier to buy cars over like a month period in California and go there. Okay. So then where's the, if that's the start, where's the end? Yeah, I don't know.

And we, we'd have to, this is where you have to sit down and look at a map and say, I mean, I guess it would be Oklahoma or Shamrock, Texas. The one cool thing about Shamrock, and this is I'm, I'm like giving away this huge thing I've been planning in my life and no one ever wants to do it.

Um, I've wanted to put on like a massive car, like car show festival in a small town that could, you know. Have like a Coachella level kind of carella concept there, because I think it would be in the, back in the day when it was like, when I was at Hoonigan, I wanted to call it Hoonigan land with the idea of like, imagine taking over a whole town where we like turned all the streets into drag strips and everything's a cruising, there's like burnout, parking lots, and there's also like a drift track, but it's like all built on, like on streets in a town and the inside of the club is the outside.

But that's actually, that's actually sick. That's a great idea. But, but the thing is is I, I went and actually when I drove the van back home from um, U Joint, I stopped in Shamrock along the way and immediately the sheriff recognized me.

I started talking to him and I was like, I got this crazy idea. He carried, he brought me into like city hall and I just like pitched like city hall right there, like on my cross country drive of this concept.

And they were like, you tell us. When you wanna do something in Shamrock and we will give you the keys to the city. So like it would be actually cool to end in Shamrock, which is the home, which is the where Gymkhana was filmed.

Mm-hmm. And to do like a small event there. You know what? Also be fun. I say small because like the infra the amount of infrastructure you would need to build for like a big, big event is a lot. 'cause they only have like three hotels.

Yeah. And they're like, you know, they have like hotels off the, off the 40, but it's once you get, you get to, um, occupancy issues pretty quickly. But like there's a ton of like, we could definitely throw like a burnout wars there because they have a massive airport that we could use.

Like where that, where Ken did the, um, donuts around all the junkyard cars at the end. Like, I was just gonna say like having some element too like that where it's like you have like this, uh, this, you know, gym kind of grid esque element or of like just some of like that.

The, the spiral, right? Yeah. Yeah. Like that would be cool for people to give it a try. Right. Or, uh, I mean, that's a great ender. That's how we crash all of our cars. I like that. Because I, none of us are, no May, maybe her or Vinny.

I'm definitely crashing a car. I mean, I would just crash it to just crash. Just, just to crash it. Yeah. Which is basically what I did on Cletus's show, on the RC car. I dunno if you saw that. Nicely done at a certain, well, you know what?

I realized I wasn't bringing it back. Like once I realized I was gonna crash, I just kept it matted. Like, you know, I mean, hey, you just gotta, you know what? Commit if you could all the wood.

That's right. Um, but yeah. You know, it could be like a big, uh, camp out thing though, like RV camping, stuff like that, right? Mm-hmm. And so then, then you gotta just find the infrastructure for like porta-potties and like fresh water.

To do that. Um, I'm wondering if we go like top gear kind of way where like the producers buy all the cars and then we get stuck with them versus like each of the, because it, the less that the hosts have to do, the better to get everyone to sign on.

Or you could call the tow truck, which like obviously is a demerit. Mm-hmm. You know, like you could have all these different ways to get you back on the road. The, the more I keep going back to the motor pool idea because I think that there, I think that's actually kind of fun because you could also swap other things out.

'cause it could be one leg you wake up in the morning and based on points of like that you accumulated the day before you get to pick which car you wanna drive. So that way you could say, I wanna keep driving the car I have, or you could get something else.

And like that day, like the 6 32, like Camaro could be there and you could be like, I could drive that for the day. You know, or something like that. I see. You know what I'm saying? Like we could bring in other things from the history and from the past.

Right. Or you could be like, today's the off-road day and you know, it's the off-road day and you get to, so you're like, you're told in the morning like, okay, today we're gonna have to do this. And one of the options is scumbag.

Like the person who has the most points could drive scumbag for the day. I like it. I don't know. I I'm just thinking of different ways to, to spice this up a little bit. It's becoming a very expensive production.

How do you know this? Well, I don't know. I just went deep down the rabbit hole apparently. Like, you know, like the, the, the way that this, from what I understand is like a lot of the, the process for just like making meth from crap that, you know, is just lying around.

Was like a, because I've actually always wondered this, like, who figured out that like gasoline And so in World War Wari, one of makes, one of the things that they, uh, I guess the, the, the, the British bombed, like, so Germany had all these like manufacturing plants, like, and pharmaceuticals was a huge thing.

And they bombed that and they're like, oh man, we need this perverted, because that's like a huge part of our, like, being able to roll people over and like run for three days straight and they're running out on like the front lines.

And so then like basically people were like, well, we can figure out how to make this using shit. You can just find in the field. So, I dunno, that's my understanding of it. That might not even be, so what you're saying is, is at some point we need to include meth in this, this journey.
