ground effect era
“Ground effect” is about how the car gets pushed down to the track using air under the car. In that era, the car’s grip can depend a lot on how well the team sets up that underbody airflow, so drivers who master it often do better.
The “ground effect” era refers to F1 cars generating much of their downforce from airflow under the floor (via venturi tunnels) rather than mainly from wings. When the sport emphasizes ground effect, small setup and aerodynamic differences can strongly affect grip and lap times, making it a key performance factor for the drivers and teams who adapt fastest.
