rules of origin
“Rules of origin” are the legal rules that decide what country a product counts as being made in. For cars, that can affect what taxes or trade benefits apply. If the rules are stricter in one place, a local assembly plan may not save money.
Rules of origin are trade regulations that determine where a vehicle is considered “made” for tariff and eligibility purposes. In practice, they can require a certain level of local manufacturing or content before a car qualifies for preferential treatment. That’s why the same CKD approach can work in one region (like Europe) but fail in another (like North America/Canada).
