lap one

Lap one is the very first lap of the race. That’s when cars are closest together, so crashes and contact are more common.

sectors

Tracks are split into sections, and each section is timed separately. Looking at the sectors shows where a driver is fast and where they’re having trouble.
“Sectors” are the track divided into timed sections (typically three) for qualifying and race analysis. Comparing sector times helps identify where a driver is gaining or losing time—like being strong early but struggling in the final sector.
DNFs
"[249.6s] And then his response, because let's not forget, he's had two DNFs in the last three races before this weekend. [256.9s] He's 19 years old."
“DNF” means the driver didn’t finish the race. It usually happens because of a crash or a problem with the car.

VSC
"I know they were fortuitous with the timing of the VSC, [377.3s] but how surprised were you perhaps with the pace of Charlotte Clair certainly in the Ferrari?"
VSC is a way for F1 to slow everyone down when there’s a hazard. It’s like a “virtual” speed limit, so teams have to manage their pace and strategy differently than under normal racing.
VSC stands for Virtual Safety Car, a Formula 1 race control mode where drivers must slow down without a full Safety Car deployment. Instead of the Safety Car physically on track, the FIA uses lap-time targets to control speed, which can shuffle strategy and gaps.
long run
"Well, we knew their long run would have been, their long run was strong. [395.2s] Already in FP1, FP2, they were strong."
In F1, a “long run” is when a driver stays out for a longer stretch to see how fast the car stays over time. It helps teams understand race pace and tire behavior, not just one quick lap.

single lap
"They lacked, obviously, a bit more in single lap, but in the long run they were there. [403.0s] So we expected them to be up there."

“Toe” is how the wheels are angled relative to each other. Even small alignment changes can make the car grip better and feel more stable, which is why teams talk about it when discussing pace.

yellow flag issue
"I would point, for example, at the yellow flag issue back at the Austrian Grand Prix, [557.7s] where George read the situation perfectly, sometimes off the star."
A yellow flag means “something dangerous is ahead.” You have to slow down and drive carefully because cars might be stopped or moving slowly. If you ignore it, it can get you penalized.

A pit window is the best time in the race to come into the pits. If a slowdown period like VSC happens at the wrong time, your pit stop can cost you more time than you wanted.
