Homologation means making sure a car meets the rules to be allowed in races. Car companies have to sell a few street versions of a race car to be able to race it legally.

Technical Definition

Homologation is the process of certifying that a vehicle meets specific regulations and standards for racing or road use. Manufacturers often need to produce a certain number of road-legal versions of a race car to compete in motorsport.
