Too Afraid to Ask

The way nearly every modern car keeps its engine from overheating - pumping coolant through the engine. For Porsche, water-cooled marks the 996 generation (1999+) when they switched from the classic air-cooled design. Some purists still argue about which is better.

Technical Definition

An engine cooling system that circulates liquid coolant through passages in the engine block to regulate temperature. Standard on most modern vehicles including Porsche 911s from 1999 onward.
